Game 93 Thread: July 16 vs. Phillies, 7.10p

Dodgers start Brad Penny, RHP (10-1, 2.39) vs. Jamie Moyer, LHP (7-7, 4.43).

Dodgers: 52-40 (1st place! NL West! 1.0 GA, W4)
Phillies: 46-45 (3rd place NL East, 5.0 GB, L10,000)

From Dodgers.com, the scouting report on the starters:

Dodgers: Penny developed a finger blister in the first inning against Atlanta and the result was an ugly start when, because of a tired bullpen, the club needed him to eat innings. He originally was to start Saturday, but he was pushed back because of the blister, another red flag. That said, he was the most reliable starter on the club throughout the first half, which is why he made his second consecutive All-Star appearance. Of course, the skeptics haven't forgotten his second-half fade last year and are waiting to see which Penny shows up for the stretch drive this year.

Phillies: Moyer dropped his second consecutive decision, against Colorado on July 7. He lasted 5 2/3 innings and allowed five earned runs, his most since June 10. Over his past two starts, Moyer has allowed a combined nine runs on 17 hits. He is 3-3 lifetime against the Dodegrs, with a 3.62 ERA.

From Inside the Dodgers, the lineup:

Furcal, SS
Pierre, CF
Martin, C
Kent, 2B
Loney, 1B
Nomar, 3B
Ethier, LF
Kemp, RF
Penny, P

Lost 10,000. That's classic!

Inside the Dodgers (MLB) listed yesterday that "The [Dodgers have] lost 8,573 games since 1890 when it joined the National League." So basically, if we go 88-74 like we did last year, we'll hit 10,000 losses sometime around 2028ish.

By that time, the Phillies would be well on their way toward 20K losses.

I had a feeling Kent was going to knock it out of the park...he is warming up - plus he made a spectacular stop at second - saved a run cuz the next batter hit a triple.

Had that same feeling with Kemp...10 - 1 Dodgers!

Penny is on FIRE!

10-1 Dodgers??!!! Especially after Brad Penny gave up one run in the first, this is a great sign for both Penny and the Dodgers...

EK, if I'm a Vizquel fan, you're a Gold Glove winner.

Who will hit better this year Kemp or Loney?

Charley said the Dodgers lead the league in hits and team batting avg.

I am sure they don't lead the NL in runs scored. Hmm, what can that mean? No power bat? Bad lineup?

Oh well, big win tonight! Whoo hoo!
