Dodgers start Chad Billingsley, RHP (4-0, 4.01) vs. Justin Germano, RHP (5-1, 2.67).
Dodgers: 45-36 (3rd place NL West, 2.0 GB, L2)
Padres: 46-33 (1st place NL West, 1.5 GA, W4)
From Dodgers.com, the scouting report on the starters:
Dodgers: In his second start as Jason Schmidt's replacement, Billingsley had even more trouble than in the first start. He allowed three home runs in four innings and needed 78 pitches to get that far with three walks and a hit batter. The high pitch count meant manager Grady Little went to his bullpen early and often, a trend that can't continue for long, because the bullpen has been thinned out since Billingsley left.Padres: Germano got no decision in his last start against the Giants on June 25 as he allowed two runs on three hits over six innings with one walk and four strikeouts. Those two runs came in the second inning. Thereafter, Germano was sharp, as he didn't allow a run or a hit over his final four innings. As usual, the rookie was a ground-ball machine, getting 11 outs on the ground.
COMMENTS:
- Help is on the way!...or not. From Diamond Leung:
Turns out D.J. Houlton will work out of the bullpen, and Mark Hendrickson will likely return to the rotation. Before the game, Grady Little was also considering Brett Tomko a candidate, but yeah, you know the rest.

You have 2 3rd baseman there. I take it Abreu is playing 2nd today
Dodgers are dead!! Stick a fork in them if they cannot beat the padres. This is ridiculous.
Damon: That would be my guess too.
Furcal should go on the DL to let his ankle heal.
Way to avoid the tag, Pierre.
Milton Bradley in uniform but going on the DL. Wouldn't the Royals have a beef with this?
I don't like poetry. But I like Vin reading poetry.
The good thing about Bills throwing 30 pitches an inning? More time for Vin to talk.
Good catch. But I don't think that would have been a home run.
Loney regressing to the mean.
Good, low-pitch inning by Bills.
Vin: "It was such a close play." Translation: He was safe.
BREAKING NEWS: Dodgers score one run. Film at 11.
"The wily veteran that is Geoff Blum."
Nice slide into home by Pierre. Actually adjusting hand position on the fly.
Looks like Barrett stepped on his arm when Pierre was sliding home.
Whatever it takes. It's not like Pierre needs that arm anyway.
KEMP HR
Kemp Crushed that ball
Saxc is at the Taper today. Go get a win Blue, ideally quickly so I don't have traffic on the way home.
Let BIlls pinch hit in the future - he can stroke it! Hell let him play 3rd!
10 in a row for Bills!
Time for Loney to get a hit.
Or a strikeout...
If Broxton loses this for BIlls, I'm going to be pissed...pads have 1st and 2nd with no outs.
5-0 in the ninth? Houlton better close this out.
Woohoo!!! Dodgers get one back from the Pads. Case of small ball at the start then the long ball at the end. Go blue!
Now everyone exit the stadium. We're going back in for act 2.
