A's 4, DODGERS 1
Tommy Milone owned the weak Dodger bats tonight, finishing with a complete-game three-hitter. At one point Milone retired 14 straight, and the Dodgers only scored because A's right fielder Josh Reddick couldn't hold on to Juan Uribe's shallow liner in the second inning, allowing Juan Rivera to score. That was Nate Eovaldi's token run to play with for the night.
Time of game: a brisk 2:21, so at least it was over quick. The Angels are handling the Giants, so it looks like the Dodgers' lead will stay at 4.5 games. And, as NicJ points out, "Well on the bright side we don't get a 'best record in baseball' tweet after this loss."

Just goes to show how un-fooking-believable our start was.
5-5 in the last 10 makes the Dodgers the hottest team in the NL West.
(tied with AZ and SF)
I still think it is an absolute joke if we are going after starting pitching over a bat at the trade deadline.
What bat is out there to get, though?
I say we get Matt Kemp.
Quentin
Pads would never trade him within the division.
Why not? Traded Greg Maddux. He is gone after this season anyways.
I'm not sure why we didn't go after Marlon Byrd. He always hits well at DS. Although that might just be Dodger pitching.
I guess it all comes down to cost, just like with our other options. Quentin has been far from robust, but when healthy he can hit. If we have to give up a laundry list of prospects, then no. Otherwise, I'm open to the options.
Giants lose! If we can eke out a win tomorrow, we'll be back to five games up and we can pretend the last three two days never happened.
Matt Kemp coming back will help but we really someone who at least has the threat of power. Needing three hits an inning to score a run isn't going to work.
Two days. You can pretend Monday never happened if it was particularly bad for you.
Three hits an inning?! Dare to dream of such riches.
Maddux near the end of his career. Quentin is 29. But who knows? Maybe the Padres will get desperate enough. Not that we have a lot of trade chips.
Oh shit, day game tomorrow? That's not going to help.
What's the process for former players getting hired at MLB Network? Eric Byrnes and Mike Sweeney are brutal.
Yes, Quentin is 29 but I don't think the Padres are interested in keeping him. If we are going to blow prospects I'd rather blow them on a bat or nothing at all. We have 5 starters that are fine, six if Lilly isn't out for the year. Rubby will be back next year too.
I would take Youk if the take Uribe, haha.
It's not like the Padres have any fans that would complain about that trade.
