First the Kings and now this! From "Ethier and Dodgers close to an $85-million, five-year deal" by Jon Heyman at CBSSports.com:
The Dodgers and Andre Ethier are close to a completing an $85-million, five-year contract extension, CBSSports.com has learned.
Ethier's new deal includes a sixth-year vesting option.
The Ethier deal is the first big one for the new Dodgers regime led by Mark Walter, Stan Kasten and Magic Johnson. It is not believed to include a no-trade clause.
Ethier would have been eligible for free agency after this season but now will remain a Dodger through at least 2017.
Matt Kemp and Andre Ethier, together for at least five years. This could be the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

Do it! Then you can say "well we didn't want to sign a 30 year old player to a huge contract, but he was lucky we were drunk and the Kings had just won the Stanley Cup"
@DKG
The thought had crossed my mind. Still, I'd rather have 30-36 over 34-40, that's for damn sure.
DBT approves the Dre deal. With the amount of money guys are getting in free agency, $17.5/year doesn't sound that bad. Not too mention, we don't have any blue chip OF prospects breaking the door down. I think it's a good deal.
Agreed, DBT.
