Game 73 Thread: June 24 @ Angels, 12:30p

Aaron Harang (5-4, 3.76) vs. Garrett Richards (2-0, 0.86).

The good news is that Aaron Harang identified a mechanical flaw after giving up a career-high eight walks in his last start, in Oakland.

The bad news is that he was working on his car at the time. So while fixing the leak in the exhaust manifold of his 1968 bitchin' Camaro has done wonders for his ride, we're still left to wonder how he'll fare against an Angels lineup that is finding its groove.

The Dodger bats, who scored a relatively explosive three runs yesterday, will be further tested by Garrett Richards, who was called up after Jered Weaver had gone on the DL, and stayed up when Jerome Williams went down. Dodger bats and new pitchers: usually a pretty bad combo. Let's hope we can fix that today.

Darwin alert:

A Chinese football fan died at his home after going 11 nights without sleep as he watched every single European Championship match from Poland-Ukraine.

Jiang Xiaoshan died from exhaustion June 19, after reportedly staying up every night to watch the Euros with his friends.

After watching Italy defeat the Republic of Ireland, the 26-year-old fan went back to his home in Changsha, took a shower and fell asleep. Xiaoshan never woke up.

Sources claim that the combined effects of alcohol, tobacco and sleep deprivation were to blame for his untimely death. Xiaoshan’s friends were left shocked after learning of his death, stating that he lived a “relatively healthy life.”

It is not the first time fans have suffered health issues watching international tournaments from different time zones. Several people were admitted to hospitals during the World Cup tournaments in 2006 and 2010 due to exhaustion.

Because of the time difference, all the European Championship matches are played in the middle of the night in China.

Hideo Nomo said...

karina said...

Heard in the Dodgers Spanish broadcast:

A day like today, but in 1955, Sandy Koufax debuted as a pitcher for the Dodgers. This same day, in 1955, too, Jaime Jarrin arrived to the USA as an emigrant.

nice moment in the broadcast :)

Hideo Nomo said...

Pull it together, Harangutang.

Steve Sax said...

Fuck. 2-2 tie

Steve Sax said...

And THAT'S why you need to score more runs per inning when you've got runners on.

(arm falls off)

karina said...

@DKnobler Still don't know where Youkilis is headed. But do know it's not the Dodgers.

Hideo Nomo said...

There sure is a lot of gimmicky bullshit between innings here.

NicJ said...

@nomo- yeah, it's almost like going to a minor league park. Gotta keep the peoole engaged I guess.

Orel said...

SF 2, OAK 1, bot 3

The Angels love hitting into DPs almost as much as we do.

Fred's Brim said...

wow, great double play, Elian

Orel said...

Dodgers stuck with Loney (You Kill Us)

Fred's Brim said...

can a team set up a video camera in the camera well that can record a pitcher's move to first from the same angle as it is seen by a runner on first and first base coach?

Orel said...

Youkilis to the White Sox.

Orel said...

AIRMAIL!

NicJ said...

Cue the Yakkity Sax!!

Hideo Nomo said...

karina said...

Italy not just won, they won over penalty kicks! so I guess I can't complain about the Dodgers today

@Paul *high five*

Orel said...

Pujols, you're no Trout. Rivera guns him down at third.

Fred's Brim said...

lucky

Paul said...

Don't like the Salmon either, more of a Piazza guy.

NicJ said...

Why would you try to go 1st to 3rd on a flare to left?

Paul said...

Go home Michael Jethro Scioscia.

Fred's Brim said...

stupid wild pitches - unacceptable
this better not turn into a run

Fred's Brim said...

ok lets score a run or two

Hideo Nomo said...

I have seen no evidence that beer is cheaper here, Arte.

Orel said...

Rivera leads off the sixth with a double!

Orel said...

Can't wait to see how we strand him!

Fred's Brim said...

Orel said...

Even when Loney hits it hard, he hits it at somebody.

Loney has seen three pitches today.

He hit that one pretty well though.

Fred's Brim said...

Orel said...

O is knocking, boys.

MR.F said...

Loney avoids GIDP! We make sarcastic party!

MR.F said...

Orel said...

Epale, MR. F!

Fred's Brim said...

Nice work, Adam
This is the first fighting back we've seen in several days from this team

Fred's Brim said...

we should be working more walks from this guy. Seems like lots of 3-ball counts that turn into ground outs

Orel said...

Do Mr. F, Mr. C and Mr. LASC hang out at the same bar?

Orel said...

Richards at 96 pitches.

Fred's Brim said...

wow - nice catch, Adam

Fred's Brim said...

unlucky chopper for a double

Fred's Brim said...

Finish this off, Aaron. Don't let this get away from you

Paul said...

Let's score some runs!

Orel said...

Loney saved Herrera's bacon there. Nice to see his glove isn't slumping.

Orel said...

Gordon finally lays down a good bunt.

Fred's Brim said...

damn - that will give him confidence to keep trying that

MR.F said...

Nice bunt by Dee.

MR.F said...

Orel said...

Lindblom runs out of gas fast.

MR.F said...

Hideo Nomo said...

NOW it's game over.

I'm sticking it out, though. I'm not THAT guy.

Orel said...

That's happening to the entire team, FB.

Orel said...

Way to represent, Nomo!

Orel said...

SF 2, OAK 1, bot 8

Orel said...

I don't know why I'm so irritated. We're already lucky to have won one in Anaheim.

Orel said...

Oakland threatening in the bottom of the 8th, apparently.

NicJ said...

Just be happy this is the last day of inter league.

Orel said...

Why is Abreu trying to bunt?

NicJ said...

Reddick grounded into a DP to end the inning.

Looking like the giants will be 2 back.

karina said...

I know whatever didn't work this week, will succeed tomorrow.

Orel said...

Glad we're missing Cain.

NicJ said...

Its just too bad we are also missing Kemp.

Orel said...

Right now we are missing competence.

NicJ said...

We should be ok up there. (Zito, Vogelsong, and the ghost of Lincecum)

Orel said...

Here's our look at the game: IDJ walks, Hairston AB. Two out.

Orel said...

Hope we don't cure Lincecum.

NicJ said...

That is not a very promising look.

Fred's Brim said...

at least Kennedy is out of the lineup

Fred's Brim said...

Guy Fieri to shut us down the rest of the way

Orel said...

Bullshit call?

Hideo Nomo said...

WHAT?

Fred's Brim said...

hmmm

Hideo Nomo said...

Orel said...

Oakland walks off!

Orel said...

Eyes on the road, Sax.

Fred's Brim said...

goddamn Callaspo
I remember there was talk of signing him a couple of years ago from KC. He would have been an Angel Berroa for us though

Orel said...

Wow, Hairston handles the hot Pujols shot!

Fred's Brim said...

Orel, you nasty!

Orel said...

What? What'd I say?

Fred's Brim said...

let's go down with a fight at least

Fred's Brim said...

any phrase with Pujols in it sounds nasty to me

Fred's Brim said...

why exactly did SD let this guy go?

Orel said...

Frieri + Pujols = Frijoles?

Orel said...

Haricots verts single!

Fred's Brim said...

Jerry working hard against Pontiac Fiero, maybe we can tire him out

Fred's Brim said...

Tony with no chance

Orel said...

TGJ Ks. C'mon Mr. Misty.

Orel said...

Makeup call!

Fred's Brim said...

the ump gives a strike and then takes one away

Orel said...

Treanor bloops out.

Don't bunt here, Dee.

karina said...

@Fred's Brim there's no way Callaspo can be an Angel Berroa, he's "crafty"

stoopid Ned

Orel said...

Well, we'll only be tied for first after the Giants sweep us. Time for a nap.

NicJ said...

Interleague is over!!!!!!

Fred's Brim said...

get the fuck out of my face, interleague, and take a D sandwich for the road

NicJ said...

Now the Dodgers can go back to winning and the Angels back to losing.
