Get ready, Dodger fans, because after weeks if not months of meaningless mediocre baseball, the Dodgers have a prime chance to end their final homestand of the year with a bang.
With Arizona's win Sunday, the Diamondbacks' magic number reduced to five. Any combination of five Arizona victories or Giants losses gives the Diamondbacks the NL West title and potentially knocks San Francisco out of the postseason (there is still the Wild Card race, where SF trails Atlanta by 4 games and St. Louis by a half-game (Atlanta's magic number is 7 to win the NL Wild Card).
The Diamondbacks play the Pirates at home tonight at 6:40p. The Giants are idle today...and then they come into town, riding an eight-game win streak, for a critical three-game series if they are to keep their playoff hopes alive.
Tuesday, Clayton Kershaw vs. Tim Lincecum, round four (Kershaw has taken all three of the first head-to-head meetings this year). Wednesday has Dana Eveland vs. Ryan Vogelsong. And Thursday has Hiroki Kuroda vs. Ashley Bumgarner.
The Dodgers will be in a prime position to deal the fatal blow to San Francisco (with a little bit of help from Arizona in its own series). In our last three home games of the season. With nothing else for which to play except the part of the spoiler.
Let's hope we spend today sharpening our daggers. I can get psyched for this.

@Josh S. 12:35p: Well, I'm a closet O's fan, for one thing, particularly since visiting OP@CY in 1992, its inaugural year. Though it has been difficult to be an O's fan for all of recent memory.
More because Boston, since winning in 2004, has been absoultely insufferable. They went from lovable losers to annoying arrogant bastards (and I should know about the latter). I can't take it. I've almost become more of a Yankee supporter than a BoSox fan.
I'd like to see the WC race go down to the wire, and TB pull it off.
@Sax: AMEN! The Patriots, Red Sox, Celtics and Bruins have all won championships in the last several years. Bawstonians were bad enough when we only had to deal with their grating accents and New England exceptionalism, now they're actually winning shit and have become insufferable.
