Can't say I get the joke ...
I didn't at first either. Then I googled Derek Jeter. After I finished reading about his breakup with Minka Kelly, I found this article:http://tinyurl.com/3g99anlOne part that I thought related to this headline was :"So much more of what he (the closer) does depends on the performance of his team and his teammates (Derek Jeter). A bad team isn't going to afford many save opportunities. A very good team, in the habit of winning games by wide margins, may not, either."So I guess we could say that Jeter was good enough to give his team a lead, but not good enough to give them a big lead. Or the joke could just be that the Yankees only care about their captain and everyone else is just his teammate.
"Or the joke could just be that the [media] only care about [the] captain and everyone else is just his teammate."
Plus, there's a joke on this site dating back to last year's series where the Yankees are referred to as the Jeters.
That's right! I thought of that after I wrote my last comment. Thanks for the reminder.
