Former Dodger President Mannion Hired By Detroit Pistons

I don't know what's worse: working for the McCourts, or being appointed during a lockout. But here's Dennis Mannion, in Detroit:

Former Los Angeles Dodgers President Dennis Mannion has been hired to fill that role with the Detroit Pistons and Palace Sports & Entertainment Inc.

He replaces Alan Ostfield, who was fired June 30 amid management changes by new owners Tom Gores and his Beverly Hills-based Platinum Equity LLC.

Mannion, 52, will oversee all Pistons and Palace Sports business operations, including sales, marketing, finance and administration, the team said in a statement this morning. Joe Dumars will continue to oversee all basketball operations of the Pistons.

Palace Sports is the umbrella corporation for the Pistons, the 22,076-seat Palace of Auburn Hills and DTE Energy Music Theatre and holder of the contract to manage Meadow Brook Music Festival for Oakland University.

Why would it be bad to be hired during a lockout? I envision a lot of trash can basketball (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CRQyPA2Q4_Q) around the office as executives sit around with nothing to do.
