Thanks to the second game in the doubleheader against the Nationals being cancelled, it looks like the Dodgers will play no more than a 161-game season here in 2011:
"The one thing we won't do, we won't mess with Kersh," said Mattingly, adding that Kershaw flew ahead to the West Coast earlier on Thursday.
This was the final game scheduled against the Nationals, who stand 65-76 and have lost six of eight. The Dodgers now head to San Francisco to conclude what was to be an 11-game road trip. They will not travel further east than Arizona the remainder of the season.
"If it doesn't mean anything, I'm sure we won't be flying back in here," Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said.Left-hander Dana Eveland was scheduled to start, but Mattingly was unsure how the rotation would unfold after Friday. That's when Cy Young candidate Clayton Kershaw takes to the mound, opening a three-game series against the Giants in San Francisco.
Refunds for Nationals ticket holders! Enjoy!

It could mathematically still matter, but only if the DBacks and Giants do some serious tanking.
What I find fascinating is that this team is at the exact same record after 142 games as last year's team. That team went 10-10 over its last 20. This team can do better than that, right?
Right?
Right?
Right Said Fred.
Right Said Dusty?
I will say, based on how we have done in the past two weeks, yes.
If you would have asked me in July, I would have said "No way in hell", but THIS version of the team inspires a little more confidence.
(expresses optimism)
