Today's a travel day, following the Dodgers' impressive 6-0 homestand to open the season with a bang. The boys in blue are off to Houston for a three-game series that starts tomorrow. So what better way to herald SoSG's Off-Day Puzzle #2, talking about travel?
As long-time SoSG readers know, one of our continuing features is The Adventures of Dodger Duck. Dodger Duck is one well-traveled little fuzzy animal. In fact, some have surmised that he must have cockpit access, or at least a lot of frequent flier miles!
However, it's come to my attention (from seeing the dearth of comments on Dodger Duck posts) that SoSG readers may not be very interested in Dodger Duck's world travels. That changes today, my friends, as Dodger Duck's continuing adventures herald PCS Season II Off-Day Puzzle #2. This time, you'll have to pay attention, people!
Dodger Duck just finished a marathon seven-city journey that had him bouncing all over the world. But his destination choices weren't trivial; rather, he had this trip scheduled deliberately right down to the amount of time he spent in each city. In his mind, he was not only seeing the world (and amassing just under 30K miles in the process)--he was also paying tribute to a Dodger friend of his.
Witness his itinerary:
#1 Dodger Duck spent three days in this city:
#2 Before spending three days in this city (which shares the name of the school; he took a quick refresher course here):
#3 Followed by another three days in this city:
#4 Dodger Duck spent a relaxing six days in this city:
#5 Followed by six days in this city:
#6 Before finally spending four days in this city:
#7 And ending his journey with one day in this city, his final stop:
Whew! That's a lot of jet-setting! So what Dodger friend was the focus of Dodger Duck's traveling tribute?
------------------------------
HINT #1 (10:12a): As mentioned in the comment thread, one does not need to correctly identify all seven cities in order to derive the answer.
HINT #2 (12:40p): For those of you stuck staring at a handful of cities, make sure you're using all the information available.
HINT #3 (5:00p): Three of the cities are in the US.
------------------------------
Puzzle Rules: Comment freely in the thread, but if you have the solution, please don't give it away to everyone in the comments section. Instead, do the following:
- Email us with the name of the Dodger who is the answer, as well as your methodology for how you obtained said name. Participation points may be awarded, but since this puzzle utilizes less "lateral thinking," you'll likely know it if you've got it. And please make sure to include your screen name somewhere in the email! Then,
- Post a comment in this thread stating you have emailed your solution attempt. And finally,
- Wait for confirmation of your successful answer. I may not be able to reply to your original email promptly, so please be patient and check back often at the comment thread for the latest news and for confirmation.
You have until midnight PT tonight to submit your answer. Good luck!

I know 4 of the cities immediately, but have NO IDEA how they tie in.

This one is going to take some time and research.
I think I got it. Answer sent.
Current Dodger or historical?
Is the fact that the last picture is marked "#2" a hint or a typo?
Mr, Customer, well done. First to finish with a correct answer!
Matty A also gets in with a correct answer.
So far, they're the only two correct answers. No hints yet, Berk--but we're glad to see that you diligently set your alarm clock this time.
MSTI, thanks, it's a typo. Corrected--the pictures should be numbered #1-#7, normally.
The fact that I'm a geographer helped me get 5 of the 7 right away but the other two are tough........
Wicks,
If you've got 5 of 7, you should be able to infer the rest. I'm on geography like Olmedo Saenz on a pork chop, but I didn't get 1 of the locations until I already knew the answer.
I've also got 5 of them, and think I ought to be able to figure it out from there. But so far, I can't. Could be one's wrong, but I don't think so.
I have no idea yet, but Dodger Duck and Sax sure are world travelers.
answer sent in!
Mr Customer, I don't get it--if you're like Olmedo on any item of food, wouldn't you have been a ravenous geographer and nailed all the cities?
Though I agree, it's designed such that one doesn't have to get all seven cities to derive the answer...I'll put that up as a hint.
Answer sent in! Finally got a chance to sneak away from work to give this thing a second look.
Wicks slides in with a correct entry, at #3. Well done!
Q7 slots in with the fourth correct answer, mere minutes after Wicks...
I was not fully awake this morning when I first looked at this puzzle. Must train harder!!!
J Steve--Dodger Duck is thw world traveler.
And luckily, we've got multiple Sons' itineraries on which to depend, to keep this charade going...
Answer sent it. No hope to have it right.
Sax,
Generally, that's true, but #2 was the exception to the rule. Perhaps I should have said that I'm usually on geography like Olmedo on a pork chop...
Oh, I get it now. Mr Customer, once again you are always right.
Love the cockpit photos and the one with the cap - Dodger duck must be a pilot.
It's days like this when I just hope one of the hints helps me out...
And I apologize to Dodger Duck for assuming that any single person could be as great a world traveler as he.
Answer sent in, more or less.
Berk, your identification is pretty spot on so far, but you're missing a step...
OK. got it. Sent in.
Berkowit28 gets slot #5. Well done, berk--way to stick with it!

i gotta say, i think i got 4 or 5 of the cities and I still have no idea.
Reasoning sent in.
Ubragg is in with the sixth slot.
New hint (#2) posted.
Dodger Duck reminds of Pleepleus the Monkey from the tv show Three Sheets. The show used to be on the MOJO network and was about drinking cultures around the world. Very funny show.

fanerman snags the seventh slot. Way to go, fanerman!
another email, before i go...thanks the Lord i´m ahead PT....
Neeebs gets slot #8. Nice job!
I continue to bite my tongue to picture #2.
I hate it when I get on a plane and there's a duck sitting next to me.
fanerman,
Though not myself very familiar with the place, and totally unable to read any place name on map 2, I did eventually (after guessing the puzzle answer without it) guess #2 and confirmed it by finding the very same map on the net. Feeling pleased. I even ventured a guess at no. 6 though I could not find the actual photo anywhere so I'm waiting for results tomorrow to see if I guessed right. The others I got from legible clues.
EK, you think you hate sitting by a duck? Imagine not being able to put the socks from the amenity kits around one's webbed feet.
Poor Dodger Duck.
Hint #3 up shortly. We have received eight correct answers.
Just mailed in the answer.
Once again, a last-minute a-ha moment that I should've realized a long time ago.
J Steve achieves ninth place, well done. Please check your email, J Steve; I've got a follow-up question.
Sorry, I meant I guessed at #4 (not #6) and will wait to see if I guessed correctly.

I have a guess.
Jose grabs 10th place with a correct answer!
Okay, I'm going to sleep and will check any other answers submitted between now and midnight PT (i.e., over the next two hours, 27 minutes) in the morning.
Good luck puzzling everyone, and congrats to the 10 who have answered it correctly!
