Eric Stults (1-0, 1.69) vs. Barry Zito (0-1, 9.00).
COMMENTS: Four wins in a row? One series tie and two series wins against NL West opponents? Tied for first place? Yeah, we'll take it.
Tonight brings us the battle of the lefties, with Stults looking to continue his unheralded goodness while Zito attempts to relive some of his glory days at Dodger Stadium, where he's 3-1 with a 2.73 ERA.
Back in Oaktown
He could throw that curveball by them
Make their legs buckle down boy
Saw him the other night in the NL West
We were walking off, he was walking out
Came back the next night 'gainst Stults threw a few curves
But all he kept talking about...

Padres now up 6-3 in the 5th. Thanks, John Maine!
Orel, I do hope Zito's going down, down, down, down. Going down, down, down, down.
As opposed to being solid 1-8 tonight, the lineup is solid 1-9. Anyone else have the Dodgers as an early season pick for one of the best hitting pitching staffs? Kershaw seems quite able to handle the bat, Stults can hit, Wolf can hit, McDonald can hit. Even Kuo can hit.
Kuo can bat flip, too.
Duaner Sanchez in to pitch the bottom of the eighth against the Mets, with SD still up 6-3.
Ryan Church promptly bunts Sanchez' first pitch, and then advances to second on a throwing error. None out.
Anyone else rather see Kemp hitting higher in the order? Personally, I think his numbers would vastly improve hitting in the two hole.
And it's 6-5 SD on a Ramon Castro HR that scores Church. One out, bottom of the eighth at Citi Field.
Andrew, do you mean Kemp would vastly improve from a .375 batting average?
Made it back from night court just in time to see the game. Hello everyone.
I agree that it would be nice to see Kemp a little higher. Maybe batting 4 again.
Just purchased the MLB.tv premium package. Now I can watch Dodger games! Woo!
The Mets are making it a close one. They better squeeze out a win.
I still think Manny should be cleanup and Ethier or Loney should be third.
Furcal
Huddy
Ethier
Manny
Loney
Martin
Kemp

Clearly he is off to a good start, but when he cools from the .375 clip, would he not benefit from being in front of Manny, especially with his power numbers?
Gary Sheffield has special balls.
Sheff eked out a walk, but the Pads escaped the eighth without further damage. 6-5 Padres, in the ninth.

Dr. Geek, I'm wondering, are you a real doctor? Or do you just play one on tv?
Okay guys, see you on the other side.
KCAL really getting on EK about his hair
"It's time for Dodger baseball....Hi everybody, and very pleasant good evening to you wherever you may be."
THINK BLUE TV referring to SoSG's comparison of EK's hair to the Disney Concert Hall
We actually referenced Calatrava, not Gehry, but it was fun to see EK get mocked on TV.
LoneyFa, did they specifically mention SoSG on Think Blue TV?
They did not, I thought they were referring to SoSG, but Orel was right. They were comparing it to Frank Ghery.
"Steve Sax said...
Dr. Geek, I'm wondering, are you a real doctor? Or do you just play one on tv?"
Okay. I'm really George Clooney.
Raffy's quick thinking saves a run. Stults gets out of the first.
I love how Casey got up after tagging out the runner and immediately looked to make a play at second.
Put it on the board, baby!
BOOM: 1-0. Way to go Raffy!
Gah, Comcast has blessed me with the San Francisco feed here in Boston...I want me some Vinny...booooo
Escape!
Thats how you lead if off
We had you picked as Anthony Edwards.
I live in SF, I can't go the entire season only watching the SF/LA games on tv. Is the mlb.tv deal worth the $100?
Yes Orlando, it is very much worth it if you need to watch the Dodgers.
"Orlando Zepeda said...

Most other games are available from home and away. The little features are fun to tinker with.
I think it's worth it.
Son, smash Zito!
Epale, everyone! just getting home...
Was that Aaron Eckhart just now in the stands?
Andrew, be sure to tell us how Jon Miller is mispronouncing all the Dodgers' names.
Epale, karina!
It's Krukow and Kuiper, who, despite their gross homerdom of the Giants are actually decent announcers, especially after listening to a lot of announcers lately on other feeds. They could lose the dumb stuff like "Grab some pine meat", especially when they are announcing a 90 loss team.
Jon Miller pronouncing the Spanish names is the funniest. I like hearing him say "Beltre" with the emphasis on the "tre"
1-1.
Dang Gnads.
Stults isn't as steady tonight.
Krukow and Kuiper, are too busy "eliminating" Dodger fans to pay attention to the game.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fYYV2RTzdek
Makes me a little proud.
Penos, actually the emphasis is in the "tre". I don't know how he pronounces the other spanish names.
Stults doesn't look too sharp tonight
Fred Lewis is no Matt Kemp!
Ethier gonna charge the mound.
Gotta love those Keystone Giants!
I hope kemp got a hit there i need his points
aaaahhhhhhh.... good to see the boys getting it done against crappy pitching.
He will, Damon.
Does anyone know if the MLB.com for Blackberry is available for international customers?
RBI Tripleeeeeeee!, go Bison!
New contacts!!!!
Zito with that gold glove.
Almost!
"Zito shaking his left arm as if he'd just done his nails." —Vin
changeup, in play (no outs)!
Free pass for Manny. Time to step it up Loney! Make me proud!
Just like last night!
I'm beginning to think Hudson was so worth that #17 pick.
Come on Loney!
what are the chances loney walks? tell me that ESPN!
King James, teach to the chickens!
Hahaha, nice Dusto!
"So far, every Dodger swing has hit the ball." - Vin
strike 3 looked on the other side of the planet!
Loney moves to 1-19 against Zito with 6 of them strikeouts.
Boooo
That's all right. Still a good inning.
So, who is a better hitter, Ethier or Loney?
In my very humble opinion, King James.
I think I could offer the most unbiased opinion of anyone here and say James Loney.
Stults has thrown 55 pitches through 3. Lets hope he makes it past the 6th.
55 pitches through three for Stults.
Get Wade warm . . .
big out
Might get out of this unscathed...
YES!!
I wonder if intentional balls count against your pitch count?
Will Clark should have told Renteria to swing.
i kinda like the little commercials between inning on ESPN gamecast
"Slow curveball, a big curve with a pot of gold at the end of it." —Vin
Someone should publish a book solely on Vin's quotes. That's beyond baseball, it's poetry.
robbery
I love listening t Vinny
what was robbery?
Furcal was robbed of a hit
Egads!
Mota warming up.
Guess we'll be dipping into the bullpen early tonight.
according to Steiner, Stults is a hockey goal tender.
Stults stab!
89 pitches through 5. I would assume Mota comes in for the 6th.
not a bad job by Stults
need more runs
I think Stults should get a "quality start"
and McDonald comes in to pitch.
Not bad for McDonald.
J-Mac!
need a cushion
Here we go. Two on, no out.
Bye bye Barry!
I think Matt Kemp really wants to go say Hi to Larry Bowa at 3rd base.
56% chance of scoring 2 runs this inning.
Blake is gonna blow it!
sacrifice!
Meintkeivitchztchkeivinchztzzztzzzkz in to pinch hit for J-Mac
Hey guys, back from the other side, just in time to see Kemp steal second with the Dodgers holding a 4-2 lead, one out in the bottom of the sixth, and Zito chased.
Karina, mlb.com works pretty well on the blackberry...except mine, of course. See story tomorrow...
Kemp stolen base.
Anyone miss Sweeney?
Mint-K!
"A head-first slide sooner or later gets them all." —Vin
Doug M gets a double to score two, but may have paid the price with a shoulder injury.
6-2 Dodgers, but probably without Doug of the big last name...
YEAH!!!!
Meintkeivitchshskkkticzzztzzkz 2 run double and it looks like he jammed his shoulder.
what if we need a left handed bat off the bench?... I already miss DY.
Hey PC, thanks for clarifying yesterday on the Newk. I didn't realize you meant "looks like a pimp" in a good way.
You kids today, you have so much slang, I can't keep up.
how did he get hurt?
douggy stays in the game.
Way to man up Doug!
"Holy Toledo! Tell 'em back in Ohio. He's alright." - Vin
Dusto, who's the little one on your bobblehead avatar?
he dove into second and jammed his shoulder....
its my son.
Looks like he injured his arm when it got slammed into the bag from a head first slide.
OZ, Doug slid into second headfirst and it appeared he may have jammed his shoulder along the way. Tough to tell if it was from the belly flop, or from when he touched the bag.
Cute son, Dusto.
LoneyFan, you're an eagle eye.
Zito leaves the game with an era of 10.00! haha.
Raffy hits it right at Edgar E. Two away, man on second...
let's go, O-Dog
I'm at the game tomorrow. Who's with me? Dusto? LoneyFan? Orlando Z?
Eagle eye? Not sure I understand Sax
Vin Scully > Chick Hearn ?????
LoneyFan, I just realized you mentioned Sweeney.
I'll tell you who misses him--the Giants. Especially when he "played" for the Dodgers.
I am not going to make it out until the 6th of May when we play the Giants again. I live near San Bernardino so it is more of a drive for me.
O-Dog with a walk. Here comes Man-Ram
LF, I was referring to the fact that you figured out he jammed his shoulder on the bag, not the flop. I couldn't tell. And on the replay they just showed, I thought it was on the flop. But I'm not watching on HD right now.
Not this time, but I did receive my tickets in the mail today for 4/27, 4/28, and 4/29 here in SF. Will be glorious. 1st row behind SF dugout, close enough for them to hear me . . .
Oh, thanks Sax. Although I'm not sure I should ever mention that name again. I'm out for the night. Have fun at the game tomorrow Sax. Hopefully you'll be at the May 6th trouncing!
Slappy comes in to pinch run. Let's go, Slapster!
Meintkeiveitchzschhzzzk is coming out of the game... I however live in Alaska and will most likely not make the game tomorrow. Though, trust me, I'd give just about anything to be there.
Manny is batting a very mortal .276
Dusto, how many games do you get to a year? Is there baseball in Alaska?
Manny Ks and is now batting much worse than .276
El Pollo Loco has a commercial that riffs on the election buzzwords.
Wow, that would have been a relevant commercial...oh, six months ago.
I just lost my appetite watching that Carmax commercial.
hi everybody, sorry for my tardiness
I wonder what happened to Alphabet Soup's shoulder.
And, dammit, Manny, don't you realize this is essentially a contract year for you!?
well, the only baseball in Alaska that I participate in is in my backyard with my boy. But there is the ABL. A Premier Summer Collegiate Baseball League
Containing Players From Major Colleges Throughout The World.
There are games played well into the night and even one that, get this, starts at midnight...
I haven't been to any of the games, but a few major leaguers have made it up here in their college days, including Mark McGuire.
I hate to say this... I have never been to a "live" dodger game... Truely I have only been to LA a few times when I was a kid. We have a trip planned here in a few years. Wife has never been to LA, so it should be a good trip.
why didnt they just pop it back in his glove, the ump couldnt see
Casey Blake just dove into the stands to attempt a catch of a foul ball (he didn't get it).
I think the beard may have cushioned his fall.
Belly gets a K for the first out in the seventh.
Hey Dusto, you should take a picture of a midnight-starting game in AK. I'd love to see it.
Hope you can make it down here sometime soon. Bring the fam. We'll try to make sure you don't get stabbed in the parking lot.
1-2-3 inning. It's time for the stretch!
Bellysario getting it done.
No one move, unless you want to get ejected !
Nic J! Thanks for showing up. Pull up a barstool.
I'm drinking Newcastle Brown Ale tonight.
I'll make sure and let everyone know when we come down. It will certainly be a HUGE event. Now that I think about it, my dad took me to a game when I was an infant.
I'll try and get to a few games this year up here. Unfortunately the midnight game is played in Fairbanks, about a 6 hour drive from Anchorage, where I live. We'll see what happens. You know.. classes and all.
Orlando Zepeda, I just saw your youtube video. NICE.
thanks, im sipping on a coke. how did stults look tonight? im guessing not amazing
Cute GF, too! You and LoneyFan are lucky guys.
Dusto, what are you studying toward again?
Loney leadsoff with a single to left in the seventh
we got enough comments here to make this into a chat!
She is the one who gets me the Giants v Dodgers tickets, I AM A LUCKY MAN. but she is a Giants fan ...
Come on Russell, let's try and get a hit here...
i used to live in alaska when i was a kid, my dad was in the airforce.
O.Z., Giants fans are people too. It's all good.
Martin coaxes a walk. First and second, no outs, Andre up.
Architectural Engineering technology.
http://dustoarchitect.blogspot.com/
I just finished this last night. In truth I solely work in CAD, but this was a fun project my prof assigned last week. A do anything you want project. I made it in CAD rendered it in 3DS MAX, a similar (the same basically) program that Pixar uses.
Fred Lewis almost missed the Ethier catch. It almost ice cream coned out of his glove.
Barry never would have ranged over to get that ball, btw.
MERKIN!
Shaving off Hinshaw and bringing on the Merkin, huh?
Cheech Marin has sunk to new lows with that San Manuel Casino commercial.
No, Kenny Chesney is even lower, with his Corona commercial.
secret bro-mantic crush on Kemp
Manuel Mateo in to pitch...
Nice job on the movie, Dusto.
OZ, it's not so secret anymore....
thanks it was a LOT of fun.
Who names their kid "Merkin"?
Love that Kemp was running hard on what looked like a sure DP. Renteria rushes the throw and throws it away, allowing Loney to score...7-2 Dodgers.
And Kemp with SB #2 tonight!
Kemp with another steal.
Kemp is really playing well so far this year. Nice to see him further breaking out...
this is just getting sad
Great videos, both OZ and Dusto!
man crush justified
First Merkin Valdez ball that gets away can't let Kemp advance, so Merkin throws another that rolls by Molina. Kemp to third. Two out. Casey at the Bat.
see what happens when i show sympathy
nice grab, Sandoval. I suppose giving Casey the green light with a 3-0 count was okay, given the pitcher spot was next
I thought Sandoval was a catcher.
Nic J, it's funny that you say that. As I was watching Zito implode in the sixth, I actually felt a little bad for him as well. A $126M contract must be a lot of pressure, and he looked really sad and pathetic out there.
Of course, I wanted him chased. But I still felt a little bad for him. What does he have, four more years on his contract?
Molina is the catcher for the Giants
Furcal traps the ball but can't get an out. Two on, none out. Let's go, Belly.
Rowand, of last night's 3-run HR, up to the plate.
Orel, check your mobile phone
Rowand is 0-for-3 and batting .333. He's due. And he hit last night's tater off of Belisario...
but he hits into an easy 6-4-3 DP. Man on third with two out.
Kim's not even watching the game!
Scully mentions Bochy's birthday for the 26th time tonight.
Furcal leaps for out #3.
These Giants are really woeful.
I know Molina is "the" catcher... I thought Sandoval was a catcher in the Minors.
thats what happens when you play with balls . . . of fire
So much for the Giants being a threat in the division.
yeah i feel a little bad for zito, and the giants for that matter, but then i see jason schmidt pitching in minor league games and that goes away.
Loretta in a rare appearance!
