James McDonald (1-1, 7.11) vs. Josh Geer (0-0, 4.91).

- Welcome home, Dodgers, says Eric Stephen of True Blue LA. Just check your speaker volume before exploring Eric's post.
- A win tonight would "almost certainly" give the Dodgers their first perfect April at home, writes Jon "I know Alyssa" Weisman at Dodger Thoughts.
- Who is Josh Geer? Just another rookie pitcher...the Dodgers haven't seen before. Uh-oh. (I know it's not Geer's first major league start, but still.)
- Scott Elbert has been optioned to Double-A Chattanooga, presumably to make room for Cory Wade, writes Tony Jackson.
- Going to tomorrow's game? Ready your Elvis costume: The theme of the post-game fireworks show is "Vegas Night" (this guy can wear the same outfit!).
UPDATE:
More roster moves, via Dodger Thoughts:
The Dodgers purchased the contract of Jeff Weaver and activated Cory Wade, while optioning Blake DeWitt to the minors. Doug Mientkiewicz was transferred to the 60-day disabled list.

«Oldest ‹Older 201 – 400 of 454 Newer› Newest»There is just no way the Padres trade Peavy to the Dodgers. Could you imagine the revolt in San Diego?
i hope not, vargas is bad too, well he was in spring but he was injured so i cant judge.
Weaver is performing very above the expectations, you gotta love it!
Russ, what are you looking at?
Weaver's becoming the next Chan-Ho Park. The only thing is we need five Park's, not just one.
russ forgot he had to swing
exactly, orel. if we had to trade bills do you think we would trade him to the giants? hell no, they'd get less and send him to some other team we could care less about.
Vargas is on the 60-day DL with elbow tendinitis. Any doctors in the house?
The ump certainly likes the spot about three inches off the plate.
It seems Geer is good with a bat...how does he look at the plate?
trivia answer: Hank Aaron, 1,477
i heard they gave vargas blood injections to help the healing, dont think that is a good sign
This is all a trick, guys. Martin and Kemp are just lulling Geer into a false sense of comfort in the game by watching his pitches go by. Then they'll come after him.
thats why we got manny last year for nothing.
Kids in the front row kind of make me sick.
looks like a big crowd tonight
haha orel
Peavy and Halladay aren't (perceived) headcases.
I haven't seen Mary Hart this year. That's where her seats are. Jane Seymour, too. Neither of them appear to be there tonight.
Seriously, you gotta earn your way up to the expensive seats.
Weaver's "unintentionally" intentionally walking Gonzo
Guys, I will still be watching the game, but I've got to get off this computer. Don't have too much fun without me.
weaver better be careful here
we will take it
That was close, I was certain Weaver would just walk him.
anybody see josh lindblom pitch in the spring?
ya lindblom had a hell of a spring
hes not a starter tho, didnt he close a ND
he was doing well in the minors until he got shelled in his last outing.
i really liked him, gotta love a guy who throws inside in his first inning of major league pitching.
i love matt kemp
holy mackerel nice catch
When can Weaver be able to start?
he started out as a starter in purdue, and then was converted to a closer his last season there.
i think they are in the process of converting him back to a starter in the minors. Im not saying he is the answer, just something to look forward to in the future.
ya i meant purdue not notre dame
kemp is really saving weaver tonight,
MLSF i think they converted him to be able to start in the minors, so i think he is good to go
Good, because let's just switch Weaver and McDonald already.
lakers v. rockets
ill give weaver credit he pitched ok tonight, but he is a disaster waiting to happen.
but then again james is a didsaster right off the bat.
im with u nic, i hope weaver's bend but dont break game tonight doesnt make him the go to guy, we need to adress this 5th starter spot
It's games like these that I really hate the new Gameday
yeah, its a band-aid solution
i would suggest getting nick swisher to pitch over jeff weaver, but he is hitting the cover off the ball lately
oh man!
haha, im telling you let james loney pitch. he went into the draft as a pitcher.
Nice ovation for Weaver.
I think Weaver is a key we are missing to the bullpen in a long reliever who has starting pitching experience, so when games like tonight happen, we don't torch our bullpen. I pray he does not become our 5th starter.
The O-Man is in now
andrew im with you. he hasnt had an ERA lower than 4 since 2002 as a starter.
the rockets fans in houston are chanting beat la right now, are they serious?
great job Jeff - not sure why they took you out though. You have just as much a chance to get out Giles as Ohman does
Hey, Houston can dream
lefty-lefty
Weaver could have done that
Giles is a lefty bum though
now u got lefty lefty for gerut and gonzalez
Not bad, Ohman.
anbody outside of houston think that the rockets can win?
Nice play by Kouz.
Ethier is not Samson.
Does anyone have Wilson Alvarez's number. I think we could use him as our fifth starter
Andre shaved his beard, and so did I!
they were talking about ethiers stance on photos with fans for like an hour on the radio today.
I'm still trying to understand how a picture with a fan at the game can lead to extortion.
"James McDonald walked the house in the second inning." —Vin
thats what they said, even if they crop you out and manipulate your photo, your still in a uniform.
who wears a dodgers uniform while assaulting an underaged girl
Ethier is a fan of the prevention method of extortion management.
Ecksteined.
Russ and David Wright should talk
I mean, he's in his uniform with a girl at Dodger Stadium, whose mind jumps to affair?
"who wears a dodgers uniform while assaulting an underaged girl"
A question for the ages.
hershiser wouldnt take photos with fans back in the day, i dont know if it was a policy, but i remember being pissed as a kid
Wilson Alvarez lives in the US. He's actually one of my favorite baseball players EVER.
is ohman no longer a loogy?
Guess not, Nic.
Karina, do you have his number?
walking guys in front of the league leader in homers, a good policy?
karina- I dont care if he lives on the moon...can he still pitch? And does Ned have his number?
ohman could use at least 4 mphs on his fb
and thats what u get
Koufax: no. Tie game.
Yay another walk is cashed in!
wasnt Ohman signed to take care of lefties?
this hitting and no pitching thing is going to kill me if it continues throughout the season. My mind is so accustomed to the opposite, i am afraid it will break my brain.
boog, gonzalez is a beast i dont blame him for the double, i hate him for the walk
great Bellisario, Torre must want to lose the game.
Here comes Belly
fred i had that discussion today its very weird to deal with
New game, boys.
He can't pitch because he'd have to go into surgery. That's why he retired. The Dodgers wanted him to go into surgery and give him another chance, but he refused to surgery. That's it.
But i'm pretty fond of his performances on venezuelan winter baseball with my beloved Aguilas. He has a 0.47 ERA in playoffs.
Sorry Weaver, no win for you.
getting kinda tired of the poor pitching!
Hahahahahahahaha Orel, why would i want his number?
this bullpen blows leads every game, its ridiculous
Oh c'mon!
Really hard to blame the bullpen on this game. Tonight, they have been put in high failure situations.
So you can call him and ask him to pitch for the Dodgers, Karina! Or at least get that surgery first.
koufax - i am guessing it's what it's like to be a Phillies or Rangers fan. I personally find that unacceptable
Ohman created the situation himself
imagine what is going to happen against a good team
tired of Joe torre messing with a good thing.
how did our pitching go from respectable to horrid so quickly.
Another rain delay in LA!
lets see if the offense can pick this team up.
i bet Brian Giles asks her out
Ohman really didn't put Belly in a good position. Good news is that Belly only gave up a hit, he's back on the mend.
is pierre up or does he always wear batting gloves?
Nice, FB!
Hopefully he can buy her singing lessons.
All I am trying to point out, is that when a bullpen has to cover 7+ innings, there is a high chance that at least one of those pitchers is going to give up something.
Still 9 outs to go, Manny will have at least one at-bat
fred, i will never compare myself to a phillies fan, was there for the nlcs game 2 last year, a drunk asshole tried to punch me and hit my girlfriend in the face instead, needless to say im not welcomed back to whatever that ballpark is called
i get you andrew.
Bellisario to cause the situation, but he didnt help it either. we used to have guys that would shut the other team down. this group of loses is pathetic.
except for Brox
geer quietly had a decent outing.
i was too busy complaining about weaver.
Koufax, sounds like you had a serious problem there. Did you get security?
Kemp singles. Here we go. Again.
because of McD's epic failure i wont consider Weaver a bullpen arm tonight. Ohman & Bellisario are the culprits tonight
casey looks a little light in the beard today.
Sorry to hear that, Koufax.
didnt get them, they found me and my buddy underneath about 100 phillies fans
Go Bison! let's have hope!
first to third, hey kemp this isnt the angels.
and they say dodger fans are bad.
Kemp is on tonight.
Sorry Koufax.
so how clutch is mark loretta? we will find out.
Blake would be the perfect spokesman for 'Just-for-Men'
Damn, Koufax. Way to represent!
Sounds like crap. I'm never going to Philly for a game.
i would caution wearing blue to a phillies/dodgers playoff game is all
that's crazy, Koufax everybody escape OK?
at least they took out BELLYsorryo
put in Troncoso
Brad Penny: 2-0 record, 8.66 ERA. Just an observation.
Orel, if i could have everything my way, Wilson Alvarez would pitch forever!. He absolutely broke my heart when he signed with the Giants, at the end, he left the dark side of the force.
there we go boys!
wow M-Lo!
man, loretta is giving manny mota a run for his money.
The bench keeps coming through
Wow, how did Loretta do that?
Even Orel Hershiser pitched for the Giants.
its funny how a uniform can changes your opinion of a guy.
Just got back from the game. It was sad to see James McDonald get boo'd off the field.
hmmm, remember last year when that would of been sweeney
Orel- I was out at the bars the other night in Boston watching the game with that 7-0 quote in my mind the whole time and that tub of lard was staked 7 runs and blew that. I will not rest until every Sox fan knows the depths of his putridness!
man penos you left early.
How's that batting helmet fit, Bowa?
fred - we were fine, a few landed punches on both sides, my gf was really freaked out but nothing too serious
That's one of the reasons I love Jackie Robinson. He retired after he learned he was traded to the Giants.
I was sitting in the ghetto area. Reserve section 59. We just wanted the blanket.
Did Furcal just swing at a pitch that hit him? Only Tom Goodwin can do that.
I know, Orel. That broke my heart, i understand baseball is business but that's what i felt at the moment.
Go O-Dogg!
his arms a little too strong.
The bases were almost loaded for Manny!
fred maybe this good offense thing will work out?
The O-Dog makes another rookie wish he were in Double-A
He just showed everyone his 'O Face'!!!
That may be a myth, MLASF.
yeah i heard he retired before and he was traded anyways.
yeah I know, but dammit I love the lie more
maximum comments in a Game Thread so far: 409
Me too, MLASF.
come on Dre, just because you are scared of cameras doesnt mean you cant come through in a flash!!
Know thyself, MLASF!
That was terrible, Booger. Congratulations.
here we go dre dog
Yay!
Runners in scoring position, IBB to Manny, which means:
RANCHO ARDIENDO for Ethier, one out.
i hope they can hit enough to let the pitcher gain some confidence and turn into a solid bunch
They brought in a righty to face Ethier.
No pressure tonight, Orel?
You gotta love your work, Orel!
devastating
damnation!
That error may have worked in the Padres' favor.
GREAT, the worst possible scenario
i agree orel, the way manny has been swinging the bat lately
Did the A's organization teach him that too?
not only is andre taking carne asada sundays from nomar, he is taking nomars GIDP's
Can we get two innings of scoreless relief?
At least we're up in the score after we were losing. Have faith! it's difficult with the current state of the bullpen, but if any of you are religious, a little prayer would do.
wow cory wade is back
Nic: 1
Andre: 0
well, a lead is a lead. Tron should pull through though
bring in brox for a 6out save
Or Wade. Whatever.
Too close for comfort?
Torre's favorite whipping boy is in. Hopefully he is more Gordon than proctor
my internet is being a pain in the Eckstein so I have to quit for the night. can you you guys win this without me?
Come on Wade, get that liliputian out!
almost hit the o dog on that wrist. yikes
Hudson & Kemp are the flying Karamazov Brothers!
Wasnt Eckstein on the mini-sirloin burger commercial?
Will do, FB!
400
Whatever Wade did on the DL apparently cured him. Maybe McDonald and Kershaw need stints on the DL if it's this helpfull.
insurance time
he avoided Joe's wrath
o dog hurt his wrist. they really need to work on calling for fly balls.
class is over, have to listen on XM now, hopefully the pull this one off
nic the replay looked like kemp was calling it...
will martin get into the candy store. i love when vin says that.
