Game 11 Thread: April 17 vs. Rockies, 7p

Randy Wolf (1-1, 3.65) vs. Jorge De La Rosa (0-1, 9.64).

COMMENTS: Coming off a series sweep of the Giants and a five-game winning streak, and facing a .500 team in the mediocre NL West, I can safely predict that there will be lots of Dodgers fireworks tonight. In fact, it should be an extremely explosive night at the Ravine, what with De La Rosa (who went 4 2/3 against the Phillies last week, giving up five runs and six hits) on the mound for Colorado, and the Dodgers left standing as the last team to have not lost a home game this year.

For the Dodgers, we'll have to see which Randy Wolf takes the mound tonight. Will it be the Wolf from his first start of the year, lasting just over five innings and giving up 4ER and 6H to the Padres in the loss? Or the Wolf who lasted seven innings against the Snakes, giving up only 1 ER and 2H in the win? Will Wolf straddle the line, in discord and rhyme? And catch my breathing, even closer behind? Do do do, do do do, do do do, do do do do do do?

SoSG Steve Sax will be at the game tonight, so please please tell me now if you'll be there too by commenting in this thread. I'll be down on the field level, third base side, so tell me if there's something I should say that would make you come my way. It may be tough to break away as nightfall covers me, but you know the plans I'm making.

(Yes, I know we've used this riff before. We're no, no, notorious, notorious for stuff like this, being wild boys and all. Would someone please explain, the reason for this strange behaviour?)

Field level, 3rd base line? Must be a view to a kill (for).

I'll be at the game in spirit!

gorging on hot dogs in the right field pavilion!

5-1 Phils over Pads in third,
Brad Penny 7 ER in 2 IP so far. He must have been introduced to the North End.

Hey Cora, whats the avatar a picture of?

Julie Hibbard said...

In an ordinary world, I would think the reason for your behavior is just a reflex...
I'll save a prayer for the morning after, which I have heard is actually fan photo day!
You'll be able to get some girls on film, so don't come undone.

(Isn't the pitcher Jorge De La Rio?)

No matter what, they'll be a new moon on Monday for you wild boys.

(Crap, there is just no way to work Electric Barbarella in.)

Loretta at 1B? Blake still hitting behind Loretta? Does it really matter flip flopping them?

Loney Fan said...

Kemp is in 4th after yesterday's message board asked for it. But Loney is not starting?

That's it... I'm outta here.

One thing that I have liked this year is that our bench seems to be coming through. We have had a stretch from Daryl Ward to Mark Sweeney of "tits on a bull" bench players...so seeing Loretta in the line up doesn't evoke thoughts of such players...even if Juan Castro is on the roster.

Delino DeShields, Sr said...

I hear there's gonna be a new moon on Monday.

Delino DeShields, Sr said...

BTW- Rally of the day - those pesky over-achieving Padres are coming back against the Phils. Seven unanswered runs. Who the F do they think they are?

Alex Cora said...

Andrew - the picture is when I got hurt sliding into second and hit the second baseman's knee. They had to cart me off the field. Ouch.

Neeebs (The Original) said...

And your wife ran onto the field.to be by your side. I was at the game.

karina said...

Epale everyone!

Just coming back home, after a promotion and a big paycheck, ready to watch my first Dodgers game on TV, a Dodgers win could make my day perfect.

cigarcow said...

Why is this game not available in HD? Is it just my cable?

karina said...

Loney fan, i'm also disappointed i can't get to watch King James playing :(

Erin said...

The Red Sox should at least tie for rally of the day. They were down 7-0 in the second, and are now on top 10-8.

I'm about to go to a late dinner at Morton's at the Caribe Hilton in San Juan, but I will be paying attention to this game. Come on, Dodgers! Let's make it six in a row!

karina said...

It's available in HD in Fox Sports Latin America.

karina said...

At least Ethier could avoid a triple, however it was a very difficult line for Kemp.

karina said...

Hawpe HR.

Rockies 3-Dodgers 0

Urgh. I hope Wolf can get hhis stuff together.

Unknown said...

Wolf's K rate is healthy. At least he stopped the bleeding.

Now, lets try not to do too much LOB tonight.

NicJ said...

is vin calling him Randy Jones, i swear i heard him say that twice.

Unknown said...

According to Gameday, that first strike to Russ was a clear ball.

karina said...

Martin in first due to error. Let's go blue!

karina said...

It was an infield single...anyway, no outs

NicJ said...

its funny on the iphone at bat app they never show the third called strike if it looks like a ball.

Unknown said...

Hmm. Can Randy's bat do what his arm couldn't in the first?

Unknown said...

Yes it can. Now drive 'em in Raffy.

Delino DeShields, Sr said...

Nice toss, schmuck. My eight year old better make that throw!

Delino DeShields, Sr said...

The Iron Sheik also had a quote about being humble. It's pretty raunchy. Find it on youtube if you need a dirty laugh.

NicJ said...

thanks for that raffy

Alex Cora said...

What the heck - lets score some runs!?!

NicJ said...

WOW! thanks for THAT raffy!

karina said...

2 innings, 9 LOB. Worrisome.

karina said...

how cute is that baby?

Alex Cora said...

One thing I like when we play the Rockies is the name Bab Apodaca - the Rockies pitching coach.

Alex Cora said...

Yeah Matt! Nice hi

karina said...

Kemp doubled!

Alex Cora said...

opps hit...

Alex Cora said...

The third base ump's pants are baggier than Manny's pants.

Alex Cora said...

Its like MC Hammer on the 3rd base line.

NicJ said...

does wolf HAVE to use a curve to try to get that third strike?

NicJ said...

see, that was way better

Alex Cora said...

Dammit Blake! Are we going to strand ANOTHER RUNNER????

NicJ said...

haha wolf's intro music is danger zone?

NicJ said...

we're the Los Angeles Lobbers tonight.

Alex Cora said...

Wolf has 7 Ks???? Wow, he must win this game.

Orlando Zepeda said...

Got here in time to see them come back, softball game went into extra innnings.

Orlando Zepeda said...

el ocho!

Orel said...

Hey everybody. Is it another Night of Wasted Opportunities?

Orel said...

apodaca

Unknown said...

It seems like we are a bit impatient with De La Rosa. He has a lot of movement with his off speed, but he really isnt throwing it for a strike....lets see if we cant force his hand here.

Alex Cora said...

Hey - Dad was mentioned by Vin. Woohoo!

Alex Cora said...

Hey - Dad was mentioned by Vin. Woohoo!

NicJ said...

manny manny manny.

*sigh*

NicJ said...

come on dre!!

Orel said...

What discipline to work that walk by Kemp. This is going to be a great year for him.

karina said...

2 runners on base, Ethier at the plate...

does anyone else feel hope?

Alex Cora said...

Come on Andre - bring the asada!!

Orel said...

geez

NicJ said...

awesome look at two great pitches, swing at the crappy one.

Alex Cora said...

Oh man, that is bad. Andre was totally fooled.

Orel said...

Still got the D going! Nice pick by Furcal!

Orel said...

Wow, Wolf has 8 K's?

Orel said...

KKKKKKKKK

Orel said...

Lightning Hudson!

NicJ said...

gem

Delino DeShields, Sr said...

Have company over for dinner. Writing this under deep cover. Don't tell anyone. Go Dodgers.

Orel said...

They must be Mrs. Delino's friends.

Orel said...

LONEY TIME

NicJ said...

i was hoping james didnt get the memo about leaving men on base today

Orel said...

just one of those nights

Erin said...

Still only three runs, with nine more outs to go. We got them right where we want them.

Alex Cora said...

Gotta call it a night - going to tomorrow's game though. Hope we play better than tonight!

NicJ said...

anyone going to the game on may 1st? its my first of the season?

NicJ said...

so why are they televising god bless america now?

Erin said...

I may be crazy, but I don't remember ever hearing "God Bless America" at Dodger Stadium. I thought maybe we were the only ones to avoid that trend, and I was grateful. Did we finally give in this year?

NicJ said...

yeah its new this year. but why on tv, thats precious advertising space frankie!

NicJ said...

rally caps on everyone

Erin said...

Frank loves America, and he wants us all to know it.

Orel said...

Leadoff runners do not bother the Rockies tonight.

Orel said...

Two on, no out, Manny up. Hmmm.

NicJ said...

A-PO-DA-CA
clap...clap...clap clap clap

Orel said...

Belisle was on the Reds last year, right?

Orel said...

They'll walk Manny here.

Orel said...

Well, we'll take a single. 3-1 Rockies.

NicJ said...

i think he was holding out on us

NicJ said...

i think he was holding out on us

Erin said...

Yes, Orel. That's what Scully said. He was put on the 60-day DL, and then the Reds non-tendered him (or whatever that term is), so he signed with the Rockies as a free agent. I think I heard that right.

Manny!

Erin said...

I told you we had them right where we wanted them.

Orel said...

ANDRE

NicJ said...

the game plan was to defer runs until the later innings, with no interest of course.

Erin said...

This is the Dodgers' balloon payment, if you will.

NicJ said...

haha. props on the tag team joke

Erin said...

Everyone loves a little banking humor.

Someone needed to tell Martin and Loretta that it's okay to take the bat off your shoulder now and again.

Delino DeShields, Sr said...

3-3. sweet.
dinner going well.
back soon...

Orel said...

Welcome to L.A., Mark Loretta! 4-3 Dodgers!

NicJ said...

i so thought pierre was gonna kill the rally

Orel said...

Juan Pierre better be careful, he's getting good off the bench....

NicJ said...

a-po- da-ca

Erin said...

Loretta has been one of my favorites since his Red Sox days. My fiancé loves him, and he once tossed her a batting practice ball.

Erin said...

I knew I disliked Penny for a reason:

"Tonight, those guys coming back like that, that's a first for me," said Penny. "Other teams I've played on, down 7-0 in the second, it's over. You feel a lot better about an outing like that when the team comes back and wins the game."

"Other teams?" Methinks he's disparaging the boys in blue. Maybe Penny shouldn't be so familiar with what his teams can or cannot do when he gives up seven runs in a start.

NicJ said...

here we kuo again.

Orel said...

Erin, did Christine like Loretta even before he tossed her a ball?

Nice pick, James!

Orel said...

Yes Brad, feel free to give up seven runs every start. See how your team picks you up then.

NicJ said...

im sure penny was talking about the marlins.
what a douche.

Damon said...

jesus wtf kuo

Erin said...

Yes, Christine did love him before that, which made the ball toss even more exciting. Every single time she hears anything about him, she sings "Hey Loretta" by Loretta Lynn, which we've always said should be his song.

Kuo better not blow this.

Orel said...

Kuo, you're killing us.

Erin said...

For the love of god. Broxton has to come in to get five outs now? With the bases loaded? Ugh.

Orel said...

Broxton in for a five-out save?

NicJ said...

brox will take care of it,

maybe...

Orel said...

Nervous time!

Orel said...

TV says 96 mph on that second pitch.

NicJ said...

the fall of troy

Orel said...

Siddown, Tulo!

Orel said...

Nice, Nic.

Erin said...

Said 99 mph on the first pitch.

I hate checked swings. Those guys go around every time, and there is no uniformity to the rule. No matter, since he struck out anyway, but still.

NicJ said...

yeah true the rule is if he attempts to swing so its really a judgement call, i would say bat across plate is a swing

Erin said...

BIG BAD JOHN

Orel said...

Broxton continues his beastlike ways!

NicJ said...

dare i start to get confident in BROX?

Orlando Zepeda said...

Manimal!

Damon said...

Kuo needs to take lessons from Broxton

Erin said...

Maybe, Nic. That was awfully clutch of him.

NicJ said...

hahaha, manimal.
Broxtimus Prime?

NicJ said...

the strike zone seems to have gotten bigger since last inning

Orel said...

Damn, Hudson's on fire. Smoked a ball between Street's legs.

"As far as Street is concerned, better through than a dead end." —Vin

Erin said...

God, Vin is awesome.

With regard to that ball Hudson just hit between the pitcher's legs:

"As far as [he] is concerned, better through than a dead end."

Orlando Zepeda said...

Its time for Papa Bear to hit one out.

Erin said...

Nice, Orel. We often think alike.

Erin said...

I wrote "he" in brackets because I couldn't remember who the hell is pitching.

NicJ said...

manny needs some blue in his dreads

Damon said...

I hate jim tracy

NicJ said...

haha, dont we all damon?

NicJ said...

lets hope brox hasnt cooled down

NicJ said...

the padres won again today!! what the hell?!

Erin said...

The Padres are insane. It can't last.

NicJ said...

one down.

NicJ said...

two down!

NicJ said...

nice framing by russ

Orel said...

Two down. Brox will not be available tomorrow afternoon.

NicJ said...

three

Erin said...

Yes! Time for bed. Goodnight, everyone!

Orel said...

But he got it done tonight!

NicJ said...

off topic, im really beginning to hate heath bell

Delino DeShields, Sr said...

NICE!

And for those keeping track, a third bottle of wine has been cracked open.

Orel said...

Thanks for dropping by, everyone! Six in a row!

Damon said...

Broxton is good

Steve Sax said...

Sorry I couldn't log in from the game, but glad to hear I didn't leave anyone high and dry. Lots of stories, including a shout out from the Dodgers' own Josh Rawitch. I'll post the recap tomorrow.

Good night everybody! What a comeback win!
