Hiroki Kuroda (0-0, 0.00) vs. Jake Peavy (0-0, 0.00).
COMMENTS: According to the mlb.com game notes, Kuroda got the Opening Day nod by default since he's the oldest returning Dodger in the starting rotation. And if that isn't a vote of confidence, I don't know what is. Meanwhile, Jake Peavy was pedestrian in his World Baseball Classic appearances this spring, posting a 14.40 ERA over the competition. But it's OPENING DAY, folks! Bring out the pomp and circumstance! Let's go, Dodgers!!!
For those of you new to Game Threads, here's the skinny. We started Game Threads after noticing that we Sons were emailing, IMing, and texting each other incessantly during the course of Dodger games, remarking on the game, the telecast, the vibe at the stadium, or anything in general; sometimes the conversation transcends what's going on in the game altogether. Rather than fill up our email inboxes, we went to Game Threads as the outlet. Treat the comment thread of these posts like the place you'd pull up a chair at the bar with a cold one close at hand, and comment away!

Any links to see the game online?
Hey bartender, I'll take a Marzen for that "At The Game" feel.
Damn, these don't taste like Dodger Dogs. Oh, that's right. We're in SD today. I should have known that by the $8 parking fee, rather than the $15 parking tax and DS.
It's nice to see B Webb giving up 6 runs in 4 innings! Opening Day!!!
7!
13.50 ERA!
I won't be able to comment much during the game. but I appreciate Orel, Dusto, Q7, and the neeebs all chipping in well before game time. Let's make this a solid game thread to teach the newbies how this goes, shall we?
I hear you on the Marzen, Q7; I do like the Biersch brews (on draft; the bottled stuff is not the same). But where I happen to be right now, all I can get is Dommelsch Pilsner...
I'll be here during the game, boys. I know you missed me over the winter.
Also, note that we're batting the Dodger youngsters E-M-L-K. Pretty good nod to Mr. Carne Asada 2009 to be batting cleanup. I for one am waiting for the M-E-L-K 4-through-7 lineup, so we can print "GOT M-E-L-K?" shirts soon thereafter.
ERIN!!! Good to have you back. We thought the robots had taken you.
How are things? I don't see you over at El Coyote much anymore... (not that I'm going that often anymore either)
ERIN!
Newbies Note: The real reason for game threads is so that your kid/spouse/other family member doesn't keep asking you to stop talking to the TV during the baseball game. Game Thread let's you hang it all out to commiserate (sp) or celebrate with those equally fanatic.
You might also learn some slang in a foreign language in the game threads.
Rancho Ardiendo for Ethier!
Q7, Neeebs, Dusto, Cigarcow, Erin--I can't tell you how good it is to hear from you all again in a GameThread. I'm pouring the beers tonight, and this tap's not going dry.
Go Dodgers!
VIN!
Just tuned into my DirecTV channel that's supposed to be broadcasting the Dodger game, and I'm watching the last inning of the Cardinals game. There are only three channels for the "Extra Innings" package down here, which is weird.
Today's intrusive sponsor is X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
And the Pirates just took the friggin' lead, which means I'll have to watch the bottom of the ninth of this game.
Raffy singles! The plan is going to perfection!
We're here for you, Erin.
O-Dog first-pitch single! Guess who is up!
Manny first-pitch swinging, flies out to center.
Yes, please keep me updated. I might just buy MLB.tv right now, just to see what's happening.
Lets go Andre!!!
It's up to J. Martin now.
damn!
Double steal!
Martin has to take some pitches here. Get that pitch count of Peavey's up! Get him out of the game by the 5th at least so we can take advantage of that weak penn.
Its cold and rainy here in Boston, but nothing better to make it 10 degrees warmer than hearing Vinny call a Dodger game...get it done Loney!
Russell walks. RANCHO ARDIENDO #1.
Shades of the NLDS coming up. Loney with the bags packed!!! Lets see what he can do.
Loney behind in the count 0-2.
Loney singles! Furcal scores, Hudson scores, Loney thrown out trying to stretch at second. 2-0 Dodgers!
I'm looney for Loney!
BIG GAME JAMES... I'm about to piss my pants I'm so excited (prolly shouldt a had that MT Dew)
I saw that on GameCast, right as the Pirates/Cardinals game ended. I'm waiting to see if the switchover to the Dodger game happens.
Nice, Natalie!
Meanwhile, LONEY!!!!!
Also, where's Karina?
Lets see what Hiro can do with a lead.
Kuroda gives up a double to Gerut on the first pitch. Here we go....
Erin, Karina has been MIA for months now. We're concerned.
A little late and leaving a little early today, but go Loney!!!! I can't believe the season is finally here.
Eckstein bunts Gerut to second. Why is Eckstein batting second, and why are the Padres bunting this early?
Okay, I'm suddenly listen to Mr. Vin Scully. I just got choked up.
I have Karina's email address, I think. Did you guys try to email her at all?
Hey LF! And Dusto! And Neeebs! Did I miss anyone?
I think EK sent something and got no response.
2-1 Dodgers
Well, I just emailed Karina, just in case. Now I'll have to worry about her.
hey orel, 2-1 dojers!
I don't suppose anyone here has ever been bit by a bat, or seen what a bat bite looks like. Strange question, I know.
Matt & Manny dancing in left center!
A GIS for "bat bite" turns up some graphic photos.
Go Loney! 2-1 Dodgers after 1.
2009 Kemp = 2008 Kemp
Yes it does, Orel. I just woke up last Wednesday to two tiny marks right next to each other. Just little red dots. So, being the hypochondriac that I am, I imagined that a bat had flown into my room during the night, bit me, infected me with rabies, then left. Naturally, I've been having panic attacks as a result for the last five days. It's crazy, but I just keep trying to get as much information as I can.
But he got CONTACTS!
That's the Jake Peavy we know and hate. 1-2-3 inning.
Erin, you'd know if you had rabies.
Mmmm...Padma.
You mean you didn't buy the contacts story, Natalie?
Boy, Tony Gwynn has really slimmed down.
Just kidding.
Well, by the time you get symptoms of rabies, it's too late to do anything about it. There is a post exposure treatment that's 100% effective, but they won't give it to you if you can't prove the exposure. Which I can't, since I never saw a bat and for all I know I just got bit by a spider or ant.
Despite a ton of evidence that should alleviate my concerns, I just can't quite get over the idea that I've been infected.
Blah, this is boring, I know. It's just the major stress I've been dealing with since last Wednesday.
Wow, we scored 2 off Peavy already? Nice!
Nice D by the Beard.
Erin, from my very limited knowledge of bat bites, they are teeny tiny... like a pin prick. So, you probably weren't bitten by a bat, unless it was a freakishly large one.
Orel, I want to believe that Matt believing will help. Maybe the shawdows are affecting their effectiveness.
Hey Cigarcow!
Erin, maybe it was a friendly bat. Love bite.
Just found out that I don't have to work tonight. I am going to sign off here and watch the rest on Tivo with friends when they get out of work. Good to hear from everyone again. Talk to you all tomorrow or Wednesday! Viva Los!
Peavey looks to have settled down some...
Natalie, let's give Kemp a few more at-bats. Then we can jump to conclusions.
Kuroda 1-2-3!
Could have been a love bite.
Yeah, thanks Natalie. That's what I've read. These aren't huge sores or anything. Maybe the size of an average freckle or something. I just got freaked that they were right next to each other, like fangs.
And being in a "foreign" country isn't helping. The language barrier is fun and games when ordering food, but not so great when trying to get medical attention.
Later, LF.
Okay, this Wolverine movie doesn't look very good, and I like Hugh Jackman.
Erin, you are the Woody Allen of the Dodger blogosphere!
If only I could be even that funny, Orel. Believe me--my fiancé is pretty sick of my panicked rants by now.
Oh Kemp. I love you. Don't let Orel let you think I don't love you. I'm Mad about Matt. (Seriously, though, I don't think he'll strike out nearly as much this year.) No more negativity! Let's go O-Dawg!
You just need more distractions. Manny's up next!
work that pitch count!
We love Kemp too. But he needs to start reaching the potential we've been talking about for years.
Full count for Manny.
Manny walks. Cash him in, Andre!
Kemp is still only 24! If he is 26 or 27 and we are still talking about potantial then ok... time to see if he can still net us something as trade bait... but right now, I'll settle for what he did last year. Still better than any other options we are looking at.
This website's hanging on me. Too much traffic, I guess.
Go Ethier.
Andre is wearing one of those Phiten necklaces. Or whatever they're called.
Wild throw to first! Manny takes second.
Good point, Dusto. We're spoiled.
Error by peavey! I love it!
I love it I love it I love it I love it!
Ethier RBI! 3-1 Dodgers!
Neebs: Guess Dodger Stadium isn't the only place you'll find Opening Day traffic, eh?
ATTA BOY Andre
Orel: Especially w/o Chipotle.
Why, Andre, why?
I'm Craz-E about A.E.!
What? Who's bashing Matt Kemp? You can bash Dewitt and Pierre.
Maybe it's early, but based on this game, I can tell the Dodgers are going to win 104 games.
Except now.
Neebs: Never heard of 'em.
Cigarcow: 104 games?! Hope you're right.
Natalie: Were you a cheerleader?
Eckstein had enough time to read two Harry Potters before tagging Ethier out.
Damn. I missed comment #100
Delino!
Erin: Psych!
No, I just think I'm really clever. :) I'm gonna stop now, I'm getting on my own nerves.
Aw, I was hoping for a cheer for every player in the lineup. Koo-koo for Kuroda!
Work got in the way of me reading the thread. I'm glad to see everyone is back and the Los Doyers are leading.
Vin's talking about Venezuela. If that doesn't summon Karina, I don't know what will.
Forget work, Q7. This is important!
"the Los Doyers"? Man it's been a long day for me. Time to get home and have a brew and watch the rest of the game.
Dios mio.
Orel, if you're saying there's a high demand out there, then I shall do my best to accomodate. Let's go Hiro, put up a zero!
Natalie, you crack me up!
Hmmm, TV radar says Kuroda's fastball is 84 mph. But he's getting the job done so far.
I love it when Vin tells everyone to drive safely.
Time to head to the grocery store for some oat sodas for the game. See you all in a while.
Especially when the game's in San Diego.
Oh and thanks, Orel!
Googling "oat sodas"....
Thank you, Urban Dictionary!
The Dude has some great sayings.
Aflac trivia question:
Casey Blake is the 6th different Opening Day 3B in the last 6 seasons. Name the other 5.
That's not a question!
Blake DeWitt, Tim Wallach, Adrian Beltre...
OK, time to leave work early (don't tell the boss) and catch the game on the radio for the commute home.
I will be dark for awhile.
Wasn't Nomar our starting 3b
Q7, your new avatar is decidedly more casual.
Probably, Neeebs. Leaves two more.
Casey Blake was the reason I was competitive in fantasy baseball. But might also be the reason I came in 4th.
trivia answer: DeWitt, Betemit, Mueller, Valentin, Beltre
Probably, Delino.

The Top Commenters widget is going to see some action as Game Threads get active.
Nice play, Loney!
Not to bring bad news to such a beautiful day, but I just got fired. Certainly not for watching a Dodger game at work, just a reflection of the economy! TTYL
Gonzalez's face looks like a Mii
Yo peeps!!! Just got back from work. Good to see the blue crew up 3-1. You know where I will be for the next couple of hours - enjoying opening day!!! Go blue!
J. Martin making things exciting!
Sorry to hear it, Dusto. Hang in!
Hey AC!
Push that pitch count up up up!
hey folks, I see we're up
"O" my. Hudson Hawked that one.
EK! The gang's all here! (If you count Sax for creating the GT.)
Nothing like the first game of the year to bring everyone together.
Loney with the barehand grab 'n' give!
the Wolverine Wipe! And I thought nothing could top the Star Wipe. Or the Clock Wipe.
Kuroda has retired nine straight.
Unfortunately, Peavy is cruising as well.
Ugh, peavy looks like he found his groove.
GREAT CATCH BY KEMP!!!! GO BLUE!
KEMPTASTIC!
howdy! short-time reader, first time poster. nice catch, matty!
Howdy, FB!
Okay, let's all give our full strength of support to Hiro! You can do it, there's nothing to it!!
Come on HK, need to be clutch here. One more out.
PHEW
Deuces wild!!!
Shoot, R.A. for the Padres. Torre with the hook.
i guess we'll see if Cory has last year's stuff this year
Wade cleans up the mess! Still 3-1 Dodgers!
YES!!! Wade gets em out of the bases loaded jam.
Way to Go, Blue!
Let's see Kemp flex his offensive side now.
KEMP KEMP KEMP
YEAH MATT!!! HR!!!! 4-1
30/30 season this year?????
See, I told you his new contacts were great!
I guess he's reaching his potential!
great play followed by a great at bat - how many times does that happen? probably not that often, but enough that we keep thinking it does :)
Lets go dodgers chant in SD!
Consider Kemp's offensive side flexed
I see some new features on GameDay.
Although under Furcal it says:
Loves to face: Four-seam
Hates to face: Four-seam
Huh??
Who was bagging on kemp?
if only Eckstein wasn't 5-2, we would have gotten to that one!
Okay, so maybe we doubted the power of new contact lenses earlier. DOUBT NO MORE.
NCAA game starting...
It's so good to hear Vinny again on tv.
Manny can't take the collar tonight, can he?
so who's gonna set up JB now that Wade done his job?
Let's go Manny!
EK: maybe hates FOURSOME. Hey, who are the diehard fans that are going to watch the end oof the dodger game and not the NCAA game.
Great at bat by Andre - kept fouling them back to get on base.
What basketball game?
Dancing with the Stars is on too
The NCAA final can wait.
Michigan State by 5.
well here on the east coast it is.
Kuo in to pitch the 8th.
No basketball for me.
K's Gerut with a 94-mph heater!
Go Nat!
dangit i've lost the MLB.tv feed. and this basketball game is terrible already
FB: Bottom 8th, Kuo pitching, two out, Eckstein on second.
Kuo walks Gonzalez.
Let's go Kuo! Don't make me say, "D'oh!"
Going to work. Delino out.
Post "227" is up for grabs, but please include the lyric "Well there's no place like home... with your family around you, you're never alone." Go Blue.
Go Kuo!
YES! Kuo gets out of the jam. Phew.
Natalie: Bonus points for the Simpsons reference!
Loney hit #3!
Woohoo! (That was also in my Homer voice.)
Kemp, showing patience as well, walks.
Is patience one of the five tools?
