Two eighth-inning runs off the bats of Mellis, Matt Kemp (who tripled) and Andre Ethier (who sacrificed in Kemp) made it close. And Jerry Hairston went 3-for-4 with a HR. But Chad Billingsley's second non-sharp start of the year gave up two runs early, and the Dodgers' game of catch-up simply ran out of time. Scott Elbert failing to retire any batters in the seventh didn't help (Elbert is credited with an out, but it was really a AJellis CS that caused it).
Oh, and new Dodger Bobby Abreu? He entered in the seventh PH for Bills and struck out. Oh sure, he stayed in the game and came up again with two out and one on in the ninth, but he flied out then as well, ending the game. Dodgers are 0-1 in the Abreu era, and have more early morning baseball tomorrow. But no, I'm not bitter.
When is that Lakers game tipoff again? 7.30p? Okay, I'll keep drinking and just wait for that.
