Aaron Harang (3-2, 4.36 ERA) vs. Shaun Marcum (2-3, 3.93 ERA)
This Memorial Day, the Dodgers break the seal on a four-game series with the Brewers. Earlier this season we dropped two out of three on the road to these guys, but hey, that was back when we didn't have all these minor leaguers and all these old farts starting and winning games for us.
It promises to be a respectful time at Dodger Stadium today, with the team taking time to honor those whose service we pay tribute to today, and those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
"...throwing out the ceremonial first pitch will be U.S. Marines Sgt. Michael Mejia. A Marine since 2003, he served two deployments in Iraq and one in Afghanistan. Making a full recovery after stepping on an improvised explosive device (IED) in combat operations, Mejia spent seven months in the hospital in recovery and is now back on full duty as platoon sergeant."Sons of Steve Garvey thank Sgt. Mejia and so many others for their service. Now let's honor them all with a great win today in a game that has demonstrated the strength of the American character for generations. Be safe out there, enjoy the holiday, and most of all: Play ball!

Make this damn game start already!
Burning down the house,Vinny!
Burning through some Dos Equis Amber, Vinny!
^ From the sofa
Jamming to Farewell to Kings, Vinny!
Whattup, Neeebs? Hope you're having a good holiday.
Ready for the game Wednesday?
78 pitches to Braun. We may need a reliever already.
TGJ with a leadoff single. Let's get it started in here!
Ethier double and the Dodgers lead 1-0!
Dre with a sneaky double to drive in Gwynn!
It was sneaky, wasn't it?
I think we can get to the Marcum chump.
Oh George, open a diner, why don't you!
dropped a suitcase on your hand? is that what we're calling a bar fight these days?
Left Field Pavilion is nearly filled tonight, maybe 1/3rd of the RFP
What's so wonderful about pistachios?
@FB
Would you sit in RFP the day after all those dogs were there for a four hour game?
I want this game to hurry up because I can't look at that crappy beard Harang has for too long.
Catching up on TiVo, Vin!
DB: Chilling and hanging today. Thought about the yard, but was too lazy to mske the trek to the game. On pins and needles for Wed.
Harang follows the leadoff walk with two Ks and a Weeks grounder to 2nd
I see we've made an offer to Roy Oswalt.
We did? When was that? Last I heard Oswalt was asking too much.
All caught up!
@TBrownYahoo: "The Dodgers have made an offer to Roy Oswalt. Rangers, Oswalt's likely preference, still in mix, among other clubs."
Guess I'm rooting for LeBron.
Keep it low, Aaron
It wasn't pretty, but Abreu makes a sliding catch on Braun's pop-up.
thank you old man Bobby!
"Well, I was checking my Twitter account...." —Vin
Mixed feelings on Oswalt; certainly has the potential to be dominant, and could be a huge 6th arm (or free up someone else to be the same), but it's been awhile since he's had a healthy season.
Let's home we don't offer him some 3 year, $25m contract.....
@Orel, marriage has forced me into not openly rooting against the Heat. It's the best I can do. That was the most contentious part of the prenup negotiations.
Yeah I'm wary of Oswalt and the money he's been asking for.
Abreu with the two-out single.
@Tyler - I agree. I think $25mil might even be low for Ol' Roy
Can you at least hate LeBron, FB?
If not, I'll hate on him twice as much.
Straighten one out, E.
45
Flare by E gives us first and third with two outs.
Beautiful swing by Ethier!
@Dusty, I can hate him all I want, I just have to keep it to myself :)
Probably a fair trade for a lifetime of happiness, FB.
What up, bishes? I mean, besides the Dodgers.
Free agency is more than a bit like normal-people unemployment, too. The longer you've been out of work, the likelier you are to stay that way.
That Oswalt has worked out with so many other teams without anyone pulling the trigger doesn't bode well. This is the sort of informational asymmetry that can make being a mere observer very frustrating; who knows what teams have seen from Oswalt's work outs.
All we can know for sure is that no one's seen anything exciting enough to pull the trigger.
We can be sure Ned offered him a two-year deal.
I bet it's hard keeping all that hate bottled up, FB. I know I couldn't do it.
Rbn! Staying outta trouble?
But at his asking price?
Making trouble but finding a way to get out of it, more likely.
Rancho Ardiendo! But for Loney.
Rancho ardiendo for Loney.
MDIL just said to pinch hit for him.
Terrible first swing.
Dammit.
@Orel. Barely.
Well, at least he didn't GIDP.
at least we cleared Loney
RB!
The really sad thing is that Loney got all of that one.
Watch it, Dusty. Although you're right.
On Oswalt; wouldn't mind having him; don't think we need him just now.
In Lost Angels of Cerritos news:
Twelve pitches into his start against Yankees, Jered Weaver leaves game with what appears to be a left leg injury.
Well that sucks.
Ramirez HR. Perfect.
Aramis is a really cheesy aftershave, no?
Gas station aftershave?
Beginning to hate Aramis.
My high school fragrance. Got me a bit o tail with that thang.
I was a Polo man, myself. I can still imagine the smell of that swill.
I think Paco Rabane (sp) was also in the mix.
I haven't checked out ESPN's "game day" equivalent in a long time. Just pulled it up om my iPad. Nicely done! Plus it shows me that Yankmes are beating Cerritos 3-0.
trivia: Who are the only 5 players to win consecutive NL MVP awards in the last 50 years?
Pujols, Bonds
Clemente
Bench
Bonds
Rose
Urine
Sorry. Got interrupted by groceries.
What the hell is up, FB? How's married life?
Shit. I missed cologne talk. I was a Drakkar Noir man, mahsef.
Is it sad that I'm looking forward to Vin reading a poem I've already heard him read?
I had Bench, Rose, and Bonds. Maybe Snyder?
@RB married life is good, pretty similar to living-together life, but with more thank you cards to send out
Those patches the Dodgers are wearing are for you, Rbn?
Loney had that covered.
crapballs
This sixth inning isn't starting well.
1-1 game
looked good to me
stupid hats
at least let us keep the white button on the top
Right, Dodger fans at the game. Keep taunting Braun to set up the inevitable big hit from him as he becomes more determined than ever because of your oafish jeers.
Someone put their balls on the TV screen.
ugh
At least it's only one run in.
So far.
Shit.
So Vin has a Twitter? He runs the @DodgersGM account, doesn't he?
*puts sweaty balls on the tv hoping for a miracle or an electrocution*
This game is so winnable but we're going to lose.
nice try, Javy
@Orel - it definitely feels like one of those. I am open to having this team surprise me again
10-4 without Kemp sounds so much better than 9-5.
good job getting your outs, Javy
Joe Morgan
Mike Schmidt
Dale Murphy
Barry Bonds
Albert Pujols
Happy Memorial Day, ya'll.
Shit. Come on, Dodgers! Get Frankenberry off the hook.
that was weird - Dre's fly ball was silent
heh Frankenberry is awesome
nice work, Jerry
Good things happen when Loney doesn't swing. 1st & 2nd, 1 out.
good job, James
Save us, A.J., you're our only hope.
Let's do this, A.J.!
Could have been worse. 1st & 3rd, 2 out.
FC by AJ, Lil Dee to hopefully keep this going
Marcum looks like he should be behind a bar somewhere in the middle-of-nowhere, Nevada.
It's gotta happen now, AK is next
Damn, Dee misses at least a double by a foot or so.
Scheiße.
Damn.
WE SHOULD BE WINNING THIS GAME
@Cliff - definitely, the kind of shitty bartender who mixes up tonic and soda (and doesn't care) and gives you change for a $10 even though you game him a $20 (on purpose)
And definitely has never heard of a buyback
They're leaving Marcum in.
Look at Coffey gettin' off the mound to snare that grounder! I was gonna make a joke about his man boobs, but now I'll refrain...for now.
Coffey walks the pitcher. Asshole.
"He is my amigo." —Vin, on Jaime Jarrin
@Fred, tonic/soda/7up, all the same to him. All for city-folk.
*Sigh. I know I'm gonna end up watching that stupid "Rock of Ages" movie. WHY did I have to be a child of the 80s!
how is the bartender at the Double Deuce killing us?
Not a great GBA.
Runs, bishes. Runs.
I really should be more intoxicated, but I'll take what I can get.
And FB, I hated Roadhouse
Udonis Haslem looks like an evil cyborg with that red eye
@RB, the stage version wasn't very good
"Pain don't hurt."
"you're too stupid to have a good time"
Orel is right. We should be winning this game. I blame Stubbs.
dammit
unacceptable
Oof. Right in the butt.
Heat up 13 in the 4th.
"That would be in the butt, Bob."
*turns Scout off*
*fondles balls*
@Dusty, I've made it to third base before without ever getting drilled in the butt. Fisted it, even.
good job, Belli
Let's get you a win
Heh. If we can't win, we might as well devolve our thinking.
Wouldn't have it any other way.
Where are the Yokos tonight? Way too much testosterone tonight.
Aw geez. Ol' Twitchy Rodriguez. Looks like he's still storing nuts for the winter. That or he had his wisdom teeth removed for the umpteenth time.
Sausage fest!!
Kurt Rambis called and said he wants his goggles back, Rodriguez!
Bobby Abreu is a professional hitter.
nice fight, Bobby
Abreu gets it started!
Well, dammit, if the chicks don't arrive soon I still am gonna make out with somebody. I'm just buzzed enough.
Did Abreu just steal 2nd???
nice wheels, Bobby
I really thought the Dodgers were insane to sign Abreu. I stand, sit, and drink corrected.
Cliffy's standards are sinking by the minute.
Steal 3rd, Bobby!
Spanky's starting to look real cute at this point.
Dre goes down swinging.
Dre is getting fooled on baaaaad pitches.
gotta keep taking pitches from this guy
C'Mon, Hair's son.
Heats win by 14.
Heat fans leave earlier than Dodger fans. They must have to go home and eat some faces
Old guys rule!
Hairston!
JERRY
Old white guys, that is. But back to the game.
Jerry mufughin Hairston.
Boom, Hairston!
That made me laugh, FB!
Can't we put in someone to pinch-suck for Loney?
Now, Jim.
@FB 8.07p, that's awesome. +1
Loney just cleared for Ellis.
Huge comment from FB. Nice!
Loney's high school guidance counselor should have tried harder to steer him in another direction.
There's a guy who plays for the Dodgers named Kemp.
Where's that dude?
Who invented the ThunderStix hands?
FB, was that faces, or feces?
I want to send someone back in time to kill the would-be inventer of Thunder Sticks and hands.
aaugh
Sumbitch
As my people say, "fuuuuuuuuuuuck."
@RB, I am sure they don't just stop at the face
*drinks beer:gets another*
Who got 200?
Cut yer hair, Axford!
FB, nice. And you got #200.
Orel, tell him what he's won.
Don't pay the Ransom.
For as much as I like scotch I've never had a Marlon Brando before. Today is the day I become an alcoholic.
FB, you've won our everlasting gratitude.
I needs a grapefruit.
Bottom of the 9th, bishes! Let's do this!
What is a Marlon Brando?
Scotch, cream, amaretto. Huh.
Inigo Montoya in for the save.
Adam Morrison finally decided to give up on basketball? We'll see if he's a shitty pitcher, too.
Heavy, bitter and doesn't live up to its reputation?
I hate the dutch.
Except RVP.
Cc. Dusty.
