Post-Game 109 Thread: It Would Take A Strong, Strong Man (To Want To Stay With This Team)

DODGERS 1, PADRES 0

How do the Dodgers reward Hiroki Kuroda in his first post-trade-deadline start? By giving him the same trickle of run support that one would expect from a dehydrated four-year-old kid with anxiety issues standing at the Dodger Stadium reserve level trough urinal. One measly run, from a Dee Gordon leadoff single, a Casey Blake sacrifice, and a Matt Kemp RBI single, was all the Dodgers could muster from the plate. And when it looked like it might be a rally inning--with Kemp taking second off a missed catch error on a pickoff attempt, Kemp proceeded to run the Dodgers out of the inning by getting picked off CS third base. You can't blame Kemp, given he generated the game's only run, but still...

So Kuroda had to wiggle his way out of a tough seventh inning, and then Mike MacDougal narrowly avoided imploding in the eighth, before Javy Guerra earned his mlb.com badge with a 1-2-3 ninth inning for the save. I don't know if Kuroda is wondering what the hell he was thinking, deciding to be loyal to a team that seems to challenge him to the utmost just to get a win. It would take a strong, strong man indeed.

I can't believe no one mentioned that in tonight's GT, the letter was signed "Hiroki Asutori (Astley)"! All that google translate work, for naught. (cries)

No SOSG party this year? Damn and I might be stuck in So Cal for a few weeks.

Sax cancelled it after the Marriott bar would not cut drink prices in half.

Wow, I spiked to 279 badges this evening.

unfortunately my javy guerra badge is a big question mark image

Hey, there still could be a SoSG Fest this year. It can't be late August, though--probably September?

Is there still interest, if the Dodgers are 48 games out by then?

I paid 10 bucks for a Jameson at a Hotel because I would destroy the place if it was 5.

Paul said...

We could be in the midst of an amazing Dodger comeback in Sept.

Or we could be bagging on our crappy fantasy football teams.

Kyle Baker said...

Coincidentally, Mr. C and I HAD Jameson's at the last SoSG Fest.

Kyle Baker said...

We could be bagging on our real life baseball team AND our crappy fantasy team.

@Dusty

Mr. C and Jameson always get me emotional.

I got a bunch of badges tonight, too. There were some for people I didn't even know existed.

ps- I'll trade a Juan Uribe pogbadge for an Ichiro one. Takers?

@Paul: There could always be a Neeebs Fest.

Nostradamus said...

I don't see why it couldn't happen.

Paul said...

A Neeebsfest sounds like fun and probably illegal.

Kyle Baker said...

Im having a Neeebsfest in my pants right now.

spank said...

Fuck! I guess I can't count on that Joey Harrington comeback afterall.

spank said...

How about a Neeebs Mom fest. Sorry Neeebs. Had to.

Got the Kuroda badge, but Javy didn't make it into my case. Not even a question mark.

spank said...

@ Dusty

? also.

Paul said...

Dodgers are tied for third again?

Kyle Baker said...

@Spank

I was correcting my own "Im" just then.

I can't think of a better way to mark the 10 anniversary of 9/11 than drinking with you guys.

Oh wait, that's football opening Sunday, isn't it?

Josh S. said...

^ 10th

Paul said...

Watching a rookie from double A take Timmah deep is a pretty sweet thing.

Paul said...

Just saw Fookie make a sweet catch.

*cries*

Okay, if it is in September, 9/11 vs the Giants (tradition, right?) seems to be the best call. It's a 1p game. Though, and the opening day for football season,,,

Would Friday the 9th (7p) be better, or Sat the 10th (also a 1p game)? sat the 10th would allow y'all to talk trash before fantasy football season...

Steve Sax said...

@Mr LA SC 10:14p: arigato gozaimashita

Kyle Baker said...

Mostly, the trash we'll be talking is about our own teams.

Kyle Baker said...

I have that Friday off and am free that Saturday. Theoretically, I could just drink straight through.

cc: Mr. C

Kyle Baker said...

And that would be waaaaay different than my normal routine.

Kyle Baker said...

Am I supposed to, like, make some intelligent moves in fantasy football to acct for my woeful (auto drafted) team?

Steve Sax said...

Okay, the 10th looks promising. Hold tight...

Fred's Brim said...

Anybody want to pre-SOSG? I am in town next week and will be going to the games on the 9th (Duke Snider bobblehead) and 10th vs the Phillies

Fred's Brim said...

and maybe for the Friday game vs the Astros (especially if Clayton is pitching that game)

Steve Sax said...

@FB: I should be there Fri Aug 10 for the 'Stros

Josh S. said...

FB: I will make an effort to be at one of those games. Where ya sittin', so I can get tix in the same general area?

Steve Sax said...

@FB, I'll be field level on fri aug 12

Jason said...

Did someone say SoSG Fest?

Fred's Brim said...

@Sax - excellent - I was just looking at some cheapy field-levels on StubHub for Friday. If I pull the trigger (ie if I can convince the missus to go to one more game), I will definitely let you know!

Fred's Brim said...

@Josh - Please do come out! Mrs FB and I will be in section 47 on Tuesday. On Wednesday (a noon game with the KC Royals throwbacks), we'll be in 44. Dusty and crew were planning on coming out too. Those sections look very yellow on TV so I assume moving around those sections won't be too hard.

And to anybody else who is interested, please come by! Dusty is promising dry humps to anyone who wants one
