Ted Lilly (7-12, 4.71) vs. Randy Wolf (9-8, 3.48).
Fellow Star Wars geek Randy Wolf remains, kind of, the one that got away. Not that Wolf is a top-of-the-rotation starter; instead, he's a solid innings-eater. Let's compare him to this evening's Dodgers' starter, Ted Lilly:
WOLF
- age: 34
- throws: left
- current contract: 3 years/$29.75M (2010-12), plus 2013 club option
- 2009 ERA+: 124
- 2010 ERA+: 98
- 2011 ERA+: 115
LILLY
- age: 35
- throws: left
- current contract: 3 years/$33M (2011-13)
- 2009 ERA+: 144
- 2010 ERA+: 113
- 2011 ERA+: 78
Did the Dodgers miss out? Or did they just trade one role player for another? Let's see which one gets the upper hand.

Wolf signs with his right hand, how?
Or is he just holding the pen with his right hand, and moving the ball with his left hand. You know those lefties are all right in the head.
Wolf's ERA+ >>>>> Lilly's ERA+

^ This date in 2008 when the Dodgers beat the Brewers 5-3 to win their 5th in a row and hold onto a tie for first in the NL West. Special appearances by: Pabol Ozuna running for Kent in the 7th, Troncoso and Beimel with holds and Broxton with a 4-out save.
(cries)
(feels some measure of relief that several players in this lineup are no longer with the team)
I think Randy Wolf was a big Max Rebo fan, but only when Rebo was named Siiruulian Phantele (i.e., before Rebo sold out).
dammit Jason, you just reminded Ned Colletti to consider Juan Pierre again
Lilly pitching in Milwaukee seems like a recipe for a thrashing.
Lilly pitching FOR Milwaukee would be preferred.
Lilly pitching seems like a recipe for a thrashing.
Dodgers on the Beer Tour: Miller Park, Busch Stadium, Coors Field.
Call me when they get to The Yard of Shiner Bock.
When do they visit the Arrogant Bastardome?
I thought THIS was the Arrogant Bastardome.
Which stadium has the Shock Top Deck? That's where I wanna be.
I prefer the Steel Reserve Level meself.
Spank wins!
@Josh S-4:14:
Nicely done.
shoot, did I miss any badges today yet?
Loney reaches new heights with the GITP
*cries*
WTF, seriously?
Geez Loney, your suckitude knows no depths.
Lilly slows down the ground ball; still gets Fielder by steps.
In defense of Loney, if Kemp didn't stumble around 2b on JR's gap single, he would have been on third and ultimately scored. Notwithstanding, if Kemp doesn't try to sneak into home plate, from second base on Loney's double play ball, there is no triple play.
Dinner's hot!
Yes, neeebs, but still he sucks.
And yet the Dodgers are determined to run themselves out of this game.
Wait a minute, is it possible for Loney to ground into a quadruple play (GIQP)? I thought his suckitude would be limited to three outs, but now I'm not so sure.
I jsut got a Delmon Young single badge from the Twins-Tigers game. The funny thing is, Young is now a Tiger, not a Twin (where his badge is located).
Good times.
dammit, Giants take a 3-2 lead in Atlanta in the sixth
DAMMIT! I blame Lopes on that DP.
four hits for the dodgers through four, and (thanks in huge part to loney), nothing to show for it
Jesus Christ! Must you give up a homer in every game,Patsy?
GIDP Loney
Loney needs a regular ground out for the cycle.
James Loney has five outs out of his two at-bats
We're going to have to make a batch of Imprison James Loney shirts.
Braves now down 4-2 thanks to Tim Hudson's lameness
Somehow, the Randy Wolf 5 Ks badge triggered, though it says he only has two so far
Dear Dodgers
Any time you guys want to stop grouding into multiple-out-plays (that means you too, Andre) and start scoring runs, just let us know. You've now slept through two-thirds of this game.
Thanks,
Sax
J-Mac badge achieved.
(out of tears for the day)
"Ted Lilly does not hold runners on very well" - Steve Lyons
"Ted Lilly does not keep the ball in the park very well" - Jason
"James Loney does not hit the ball where they ain't very well" - Jason
"Dionner Navarro does not keep away from the pregame buffet very well" - Jason
"Ned Colletti does not negotiate contracts with former Giants very well" - Jason
@Sax: The strikeouts badge is glitchy.
Tonight would have been a good night to get the Loney Miserable Failure badge.
<positivity>
Casey Blake grows a beard really well.

45 (+2)
(sorry, Dusty)
DAMMIT!
You know it's going bad when you see a player from your team get injured and you laugh.
(laughs)
rivera, just hit a two-run HR so we can take the lead
I left an event w open bar to take a peek at this fucking shitfest?
Cam someone cry on my behalf? I have no more tears.
Are we pulling for the groundout cycle here?
Come on Loney! all we need is a ground out
Who got injured?
Where does a fielder's choice fit in with the Loney-Cycle?
@DB
Rivera's foot (and pride)
Rivera hit a ball off his foot and was hopping around all retarded.
Looks like Wolf doesn't want to give up the cycle
I'm torn. The Loney-Cycle would have been entertaining. A Dinner pop-out... not so much.
DAMMIT!
Screw this, I'm heading to Costco to buy beer and aspirin in bulk.
And shampoo.
Lilly is pitching a pretty damn good game here. He's just getting no support. I'm going to start calling him "Kuroda."
Just caught that Thome hit his 600th HR today. Congrats.
Now, beer by the gallon...
Thome 600 Post up top
Brian Wilson enters the game in the ninth with a 4-2 SF lead. Seven batters and only two recorded outs later: Braves win, 5-4.
Sellers just got bought by Wolf.
Ooh ooh! Even better: go check out the highlight. The walkoff single by Freddie Freeman was up the middle with the bases loaded. Runner from third comes home to score, Cody Ross charges from center--and misses the ball under his glove, allowing the winning run to score from second.
What a (rodeo) clown!
J-Mac gets the win for Pittsburgh over St Louis, 6-2.
(cries)
148 badges at last check, Saxy.
F'ing A, Dodgers. Lilly throws a two-hitter through eight innings on the road, and you're going to get shutout?
Way to go.
DAMMIT,PATSY!
We are not going to win this baseball game.
My bad. It was Elbert not Patsy who gave up the last homer. Sorry Pats.
why the hell not? why the hell shouldn't both of our relievers this inning give up HR to their first batters?
nice job, elbert and macdougal.
i have to go watch that brian wilson blown save video again just to make myself feel better
Fitting ending. Time to skiddadle.
Rivera just pulled a Loney
whoops, lilly only went seven innings.
PGT up
