STGT: March 28 vs. Angels, 7p

You know it's getting close to Opening Day when spring training games move to "real MLB stadia," as SoSG Sax would say. And you know another SoSG meme has died on the vine when the Dodgers get thumped by Cleveland 6-1 in their 2011 Camelback swan song. Sorry, Scary Spice!

Dodger Stadium opens its gates tonight as it hosts two of the Dodgers' final three spring training games: tonight versus the Angels and Wednesday versus the Mariners. The Angels seem to be facing as many on-field issues as the Dodgers, so tonight's game will clarify exactly nothing. Play meaningless ball!

From the "Man, I Really Hope This Is True" Department: Billingsley is set to sign a 3 year, $30 million extension with an option on a 4th year.

Jason said...

And from the "Soon to Sign with Tampa" Department, Ronnie Belliard was released by the Yankees today. No word on whether Manny demanded an immediate signing or if Belliard was allowed to stop off for a double cheeseburger first.

With all the good news going around Camelback, I bet the Dodgers were sorry to leave.

ooh, strained an oblique writing that. Damn the Dodger curse!!

Hey, the lineup vaguely resembles one that might play in a real game!

Hello Everyone!! I am so jazzed to have Vin's voice wafting through my home from DS!! We have to hit the ground running this year with gnats in town on Thursday. I'm working on the HATE.

spank said...

Hi,Karen. Work that HATE! I have no telecast so I'm out.

NicJ said...

Fuck Yea!!

Going all the way baby!!!

Josh S. said...

DS Canter's was overpriced and sucky anyway.

So good to see the Ravine on TV again.

Kyle Baker said...

Karen! How have you been? Was hoping you'd jump into a game thread.

Kyle Baker said...

You are right Josh. Is that different than the other concessions, though?

karen said...

@Dusty...I've been very good! How about you and your family (including Frankie)?

Kyle Baker said...

How lame did Loney feel making that Dodgers snuggie commercial?

Kyle Baker said...

@Karen

We're well. Long couple of months with some death and illness in the family, but that's life. Frankie is a rock throughout it all. Glad the season is starting - I need it's medicinal qualities.

karen said...

@Dusty...Probably as lame as the poor guy looked. I was so embarrassed for him

Josh S. said...

Dusty's leaving Vinny hanging.

karen said...

@Dusty...Sorry to hear about the tough times. You're right though, baseball is good for the soul.

Kyle Baker said...

Just got back from picking up dinner, Vinny!

Kyle Baker said...

Lilly looks like shite tonight. I'll give him a pass. Make it right by regular season, though, Teddy.

karen said...

Teddy baby is less than impressive so far.

NicJ said...

Boo-ribe

First of many

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

Is Jamey really using Eye of the Tiger for his walk-up music?

Kyle Baker said...

Wide Eye of the Tiger to us.

Kyle Baker said...

That 4th ball was closer to my garage than to home plate.

spank said...

WOW! What a hit by Furcal.

I'm looking at gameday so I'm doing my own telecast.

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

Damn fine work, Spanky. Damn fine.

Deja Vu Matty

spank said...

Same ol' Dodgers

Kyle Baker said...

Kemp has looked just clueless in the coua ABs I've seen for him. Guess the word is out: get him to chase a slider outside.

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

Ted Lilly: Fuck yeah.

Fred's Brim said...

@DB I think they watch old film of Dave Winfield to game plan for Matty

spank said...

Hey! The Angels of Yucaipa did not score this inning. That's good. ?

spank said...

I am also not comfortable with Gnats on the team. More on this as the season unfolds.

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

So new tires will help me score French babes?

Orel said...

Hey, nice to see some real chatter in a GT. Remember, spring training isn't just for the players!

Kyle Baker said...

Exactly, FB. Mattingly: quick, put together a reel of Ks from Mark Reynolds. Make sure Kemp knows how to strike out the right way.

Kyle Baker said...

Yeah, you know chicks really dig a man's choice in tires.

I can't remember the last time I gave one flying shit about what tires my car had. They just need to be round and made of rubber.

Kyle Baker said...

@Orel

Nice to see a Son in the GT. Cheers to you lads!*

*Except Lasorda. Screw him.

spank said...

Cut the chatter red 2.

Josh S. said...

Vin's having some amusing trouble with names tonight. But he ALWAYS says it right the next time. THE MAN.

Orel said...

It looks as if the seats behind home plate have been replaced.

Orel said...

@Josh: His pronouncing "Callaspo" was a little bit of an adventure.

Kyle Baker said...

Picking up a theme from another, earlier thread:

As Josh recommended, it's high time for a SoSG readership games attended record, lads. I keep mine meticulously throughout the season.

Kyle Baker said...

Pre-season insight from Mrs Dusty in Law:

"Xavier Paul looks like Prince."

Orel said...

U don't have 2 B beautiful

Orel said...

I don't think that dude in the Angels jacket actually gave the ball to the lady in the Dodgers jacket. But that's just me.

Orel said...

Vic Barajas?

spank said...

DO ME, BABY!

Kyle Baker said...

Ethier needs to grow some facial hair. He looks way too nice and clean cut.

In related news, I still have my Sugar Bowl beard from early January.

Kyle Baker said...

Urine! Right on my man. Let's do this!

Kyle Baker said...

Pack of Cards up in dis bish!!!

Nostradamus said...

We're winning?

Kyle Baker said...

ps-I don't mean I shaved my beard but kept the clippings since January. That would be weird. And it would be just the smart ass kind of comment that Mr. C would make so I needed to head it off.

Nostradamus said...

OT: Howdy, y'all!

Kyle Baker said...

See!!!! Knew Mr. C was lurking.

Nostradamus said...

@db

Well played, sir.

Orel said...

Do not argue with auto-correct.

Orel said...

'sup C!

Nostradamus said...

Is that really how Guerrier pronounces his name, or is it just Steiner?

Kyle Baker said...

God dammit, they're still doing GBA between 7 and 8 innings.

Kyle Baker said...

@Orel

Ok. But can I argue with the hyphen you used?

Nostradamus said...

It does really feel like baseball now.

Orel said...

Dammit, Dusty, I agonized over that.

auto correct
auto-correct
autocorrect
Auto Correct
AutoCorrect

So which one is it?

Kyle Baker said...

Interestingly, in the iPhone settings, it's "Auto-Correction".

Kyle Baker said...

I like "Autocorrect".

Nostradamus said...

'sup, Orel?

For my money, the double capital is o ly acceptable for proper names. I'm going to say one word is correct, but I will accept the hyphen.

Orel said...

But why would it be a proper noun? Has someone ™ed it?

We are such geeks.

Orel said...

Thank you, Mr. C. You are truly a gentleman of refined tastes.

Speaking of which: Dalwhinnie 15.

Orel said...

Vin was saying it gur-REAR.

Josh S. said...

@Mr. C: Rhymes with "career?" That's how Vin's been saying it.

Orel said...

I hear the name "Amarista" and I think "dictator of love."

Orel said...

I think we will hit 100 tonight.

Orel said...

It's Kuo time!

Kyle Baker said...

Status: Kuo!

Kyle Baker said...

Nice catch by TO!

Nostradamus said...

Gareer? I would not have arrived at that pronunciation. Go figure.

Orel said...

Nice catch by Oeoeauieltjen!

Kyle Baker said...

Beer status: Dry as a bone.

Saving up for Opening Day.

Orel said...

Go fig-GEER.

Orel said...

So you're drinking wine, Dusty?

Orel said...

GBA still intact. DSB still intact.

Kyle Baker said...

DSB being played in background.

Kyle Baker said...

DAMMIT.

Nostradamus said...

Also running dry tonight. *cries*

Kyle Baker said...

Jerry Sands has definitely had a good spring. I'd love to see him grow into something great for us. On the other hand, he has a really lame baseball name.

Kyle Baker said...

Nope, no wine. Actually now that I think about it I did have one Sammy whilst waiting for my to go order.

Kyle Baker said...

Well shitfire. I thought we might get something going there. Instead, DP. Two down.

Apparently Dee Gordon is twelve years old.

Orel said...

@DB: How is that different from making a playlist of your favorite songs on YouTube?

Orel said...

I looked it up: That really is Miss Turkey.

Orel said...

Brox starts at 95 (96 according to Vin).

Orel said...

It feels like Broxton will never throw another 1-2-3 inning again.

Kyle Baker said...

DeJesus: You're fired.

Orel said...

Way to audition, DeJesus. Botches the game-ending DP ball.

Josh S. said...

DE JESUS CHRIST!

Nostradamus said...

Can't blame Brox for that one.

Josh S. said...

Fielders seem to always do dumb shit behind Brox.

Orel said...

Good hustle, Kapler!

Josh S. said...

LET IT GO FOUL, KNUCKLEHEAD.

Kyle Baker said...

It was a good hustle, but I didn't want him to catch the ball.

Kyle Baker said...

DAMMIT!

Nostradamus said...

To be fair, he does occupy more of the field-of-view. The ball takes longer to come out of occultation.

Kyle Baker said...

Mrs Dusty notes Brox's new glove, and hope it brings him better luck.

Orel said...

Is this a regular-season game?

Josh S. said...

Eh, we won this game, no matter the final score.

(I can say that since it's still the preseason.)

Kyle Baker said...

In a way I don't blame Brox, but on the other hand he just absilutely doesn't dominate, and hitters are getting good contact. He should be blowing these guys and not having to rely on his infielders to bail him out.

Kyle Baker said...

Nice hyphen there, Orel! Good work.

Orel said...

Thank-you!

Nostradamus said...

I know it's unfair, but does anyone doubt that HCK should still close?

Kyle Baker said...

Brox seriously just has no idea how to get someone out, nor does he have the confidence. All caveats aside re: pre-season, I am truly worried about him. I have nothing but hope for him to shake through this, not hatin', but...shit. He looks lost out there.

Orel said...

Okay, time for the dramatic spring-training walkoff.

Orel said...

Broxton will have to un-earn his closer role during the regular season.

Kyle Baker said...

How do we feel about hyphenating "walkoff"?

*ducks*

Nostradamus said...

I always hyphenate walk-off.

Kyle Baker said...

Like seeing an Asian catcher. How many have there been, I wonder? I can think of two current ones and no past ones.

Kyle Baker said...

Agree, Mr. C.

Orel said...

I went through the walkoff/walk-off dilemma. But I can't remember what I decided.

"Walkoff" looks better in headlines, though.

Paul said...

Really already Bubba shot the jukebox?

You are right Dusty he should be blowing these guys cause he sucks.

Orel said...

Johjima?

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

Kenji Johjima and Kurt Suzuki come to mind.

Paul said...

I was worried when I listen to Brox be interviewed and acted like nothing was wrong last year.

If the guy can bring the heat he is gonna be in trouble.

Paul said...

I always like the name Kenji.

Neeebs (The Original) said...

Did we reallt lose it in the ninth? Nothing like getting ready for the real deal.

Kyle Baker said...

Yeah those were the two catchers I could think of.

Kyle Baker said...

"Walkoff" sounds like a Russian surname.

Kyle Baker said...

Castilla kid pulls a Holliday.

Orel said...

Wow. One E deserves another, I guess.

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

Alexei Walkoff is my main man.

Kyle Baker said...

So two Asian catchers and both have names beginning with "K." Weeeeeeirrrrd, maaaaaaannnn.

Kyle Baker said...

Walkoff - Or a really bad Vodka.

Paul said...

A shot of Walkoff Vodka sounds good to me.

Paul said...

Maybe I should review my taste in vodka... Russian Standard or not.

Neeebs (The Original) said...

I thought walkoff was a Japanese cooking competition.

Kyle Baker said...

Kappler will come through and give Torre a reason to keep him on the squad. Stoopid Torr - oh.

Orel said...

So much for that!

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

For the love of crap, Kapler, try using your brawn for at least one meaningless homer.

Orel said...

Off to drown my sorrows in Johnnie Walkoff Red.

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

Aw dammit.

Kyle Baker said...

This sobriety is for the birds. Experiment over.

Paul said...

Walk it off usually meant I had been hit by a ball not that I had hit the ball.

spank said...

Look on the bright side.........

Kyle Baker said...

FUCK YOU local nightly news! (goes postal)

Horrible situation in Montebello...woman's young daughter abducted by drunk (father? boyfriend?)...surrounded by cops...woman escapes with girl...guy kills himself. Barely a second after the news story wraps up, segue right to the plastic hussy at the news desk who is smiling ear to ear and talking about how GREAT *chirps* the weather is going to be this week.

Josh S. said...

I like Joe Block's Twitter enthusiasm. He could retweet a little less, though.

Paul said...

Local news blows.

Are they really still playing Steve fuckin Perry?

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

I like Block's tweeting a lot more than Levine's already. At least Block is using it to communicate with fans, as opposed to Levine, who used it to make terrible jokes (I'm looking at you, "unfriending Manny" barb).

Kyle Baker said...

I'm lost on this Block bit. What's the deal?

Paul said...

I am sure I am late to the meet Joe Block party.

Josh S. said...

Dusty, the new host of Dodger Talk, @joe_block, tweets a lot, but a good chunk of it is worth reading.

Kyle Baker said...

Cheers, Josh. Clearly, I've missed out on some bits of news recently.
