Guilt by Association

I envy Lakers fans. They've never known extended periods of organizational incompetence, or the empty feeling of being a large-market team that can't win it all.

Apparently the Dodgers feel the same way. From a press release:

The Los Angeles Dodgers have scheduled a Lakers Tribute with a Purple & Gold LA Cap giveaway on April 14 vs. St. Louis prior to the 7:10 p.m. game. This is an addition to the long list of giveaways filled with fan favorite items and valuable incentives planned for the 2011 season.

The Lakers Tribute – Purple & Gold LA Cap giveaway on April 14 is the first in a series of four specialty cap giveaways that include the traditional LA Dodger Cap presented by Amtrak (July 24), USC Night and Cardinal and Gold Cap presented by USC University Hospital promotion on September 15 (vs. PIT) and UCLA and Blue and Gold Cap presented by State Farm giveaway on September 20 (vs. SF).

But wait, this is cool!

Bill Sharman, who coached the Lakers to the first championship in franchise history during the 1971-72 seasons, was a former Dodger minor league outfielder from 1950 to 1955. Sharman was called up to the Brooklyn Dodgers in September 1951 but did not appear in a game.

My St Lousian GF got us tix to this game for my birthday. I'm assumming so she has one last chance to see Albert in Cards gear before he goes to Anaheim next season.

My god that is ugly. I hate that there is so much more Laker crap in the stores than there is Dodger stuff. It's even worse is that there is usually 3 times as much Angel stuff as Dodger stuff since I'm in OC (I like both teams but come on, it's the same freaking market, sell both stuff!).

Does anyone know where I could get ahold of one of those Amtrak-sponsored Dodger caps (given out on July 24)? I missed the giveaway by 10 minutes and have never been able to find one since! eBay has been a bust. Any suggestions?

The only thing I can think of is that sometimes the stadium store will sell some of the stuff, incl caps, from the giveaway days. Especially now that they're wanting to move merch for the new season.

Also, I'm betting that the stadium wasn't full for that giveaway day, so heck, a call to the Yard and a plea to hook you up might yield something presuming they have a stack sitting around somewhere.
