I think it might be time for Johnny to book a flight to ABQ for a while. Elymania may rise again, but it's dormant for now.

Next time the 5th starter is needed is Monday the 19th back home vs. SF. Plenty of time to figure something out.

I would like to see Ned get proactive and deal for a pitcher in the next week, as opposed to waiting for the deadline. What's three weeks of waiting going to do, lower the price? Pay two prospects instead of three? Get on it Ned, and get some help.

Apparently everything is falling into the Rangers' lap. First Cliff Lee and now this:

re: Raffy

We all know what he's gone through the last several weeks with his father. He did what he needed to do with his family but he's held his chin high while continuing to play well for Blue. So well that he was player of the week I believe it was last week. Talk about being able to compartmentalize.

Today we meant to get to BBQ joint nearby the Ravine, but they didn't open early enough for us to eat then get to the yard. So we just went straight to the Yard. Made it in time for the on-thepfield player photo event thingy that they do annually.

I was taking some lame artistic pictures off to the side while everyone else was scrambling to greet and photograph our players. But I wandered up toward the end and noted Raffy coming up. He made his way around then by where I was standing. Like everyone else, he did what he could to pose for a photo, sign an autograph, keep moving, etc. He kept going a little bit further past where I was standing. Then a few people, incl people with young kids, yelled out for him to stop/come back nearer to us. Raffy paused for a second, looked around and noted the handlers were trying to shepherd the players toward the dugout as the event was wrapping up - then turned and came back to our group. After returning, Raffy posed with several young kids and some adoring adolescents. You could tell it just wasn't in him to dis the fans who were there to see him and others. Total class act - he had to finally be dragged back by security. I snapped a quick pic or two that mostly had little kids in the foreground; they were the ones who deserved the close-in photos. But as I did I thanked him for sticking around and told him to hang in there after all he's gone through. I don't know if he heard me exactly but he seemed to look up and give me a nod.

At the end of the game and after I ate a late lunch in the neighborhood, I finally got to charge my phone up as we were driving home. First Tweet I saw was that Raffy had been named to the All Star Game as he so richly deserves. I thought, "Yeah, Karma is real."

Not to beat a dead horse but I love this article from MLB.com:

By Evan Drellich / MLB.com

07/10/10 9:01 PM ET

LOS ANGELES -- Dodgers shortstop Rafael Furcal was named on Saturday to the National League All-Star team as a replacement for injured Mets shortstop Jose Reyes.

Furcal's .333 average would lead the National League if he had enough at-bats to qualify. He recently set the Los Angeles Dodgers record with a run scored in 12 straight games, a feat not matched since Gil Hodges and the Brooklyn Dodgers in the 1950s. Furcal's only other career All-Star Game selection came in 2003, when he was with the Braves, also as a reserve.

Furcal was on the Dodger Stadium field with his children, ages 2 and 4, and wife for the Dodgers players' family day after Saturday's 7-3 loss to the Cubs.

"I'm waiting for my family, and then I got lucky -- I grabbed my phone and [general manager Ned Colletti] called me and asked me what I'm going to do on Monday and Tuesday," Furcal said. "I said, 'I got a plan to go with my family to Miami.' He told me, 'No, you made the All-Star team.' It made me so excited."

Angels Kazmir getting SHELLED right now. 13 runs and not even out of the 5th yet.

Watching it now, Nic. Not hating it, either.

Jesus, you're letting Sheets beat you! Halos' body language is pretty telling; it looks like it's more negative than just this game.

Rangers might be having buyers remorse on the Cliff Lee deal right about now.

Gave up three homeruns in his debut.

NicJ said...

Rox win again.

Uh Oh.

Kyle Baker said...

Gotta give Lee a pass on this one. Has to have been a crazy week for him. Nothing doing. We'll see how he comes out after the break.

NicJ said...

His ERA in that ballpark is funny.

ESPN just showed which teams had the hardest second half schedules. Winner (or loser) is, wait for it, THE DODGERS!!!!

we have a whopping 58 games in the second half against teams with a .500 or better record. Fortunately the gints and rox have the 2nd and 3rd hardest but they have like 47 games against those teams.

Manny went 0-3 tonight with 2 k's tonight in his first rehab start.
