Manny's Hammy Not A Big Whammy

It's inflamed. But luckily for Manny Ramirez, the hamstring he pulled on Wednesday is not severe enough to merit a trip to the DL:

A club official said Ramirez "felt better" Thursday. He injured his right hamstring in the first inning Tuesday night while running the bases in a Dodgers game in San Francisco.

Ramirez reported that he felt stiffness during pregame warm-ups and felt increased tightness as he advanced from first base to second base on a single. Caught off second base, he slid with his right leg extended, kicked the ball out of shortstop Edgar Renteria's glove and immediately left the game.

The 38-year-old Ramirez had a history of hamstring problems while playing in Boston and had a hamstring injury with the Dodgers last Spring Training. He also spent a stint on the disabled list earlier this season with a strain of his right calf.

Adds ESPN.com:

Ramirez was sidelined from April 23 through May 7 with an strained right calf, then struggled with a .288 on-base percentage, .304 slugging percentage and two home runs in his first 23 games back in action. But Ramirez essentially doubled that production in the next 23 games, with a .476 on-base percentage, .658 slugging percentage and four homers before the latest ailment.

Reed Johnson and Garret Anderson are the Dodgers backup' outfielders, but if Ramirez goes on the disabled list, the team will likely call up Xavier Paul from Triple-A Albuquerque for the third time this season. The 25-year-old has a .328 on-base percentage and .404 slugging percentage in 20 games for the Dodgers this year, subbing in for Ramirez and for Andre Ethier during their DL stints. Paul, who has been outstanding at Albuquerque with 12 home runs, a .402 on-base percentage and .633 slugging percentage, was not in the Isotopes' starting lineup Thursday.

Cross your fingers, as Ramirez will be re-evaluated on Friday. And with his bat hot since the Boston series, I'd sure love to see him taking his hacks with the team as soon as possible.

Being a part of IT for my company is odd. I don't have all the internet access I want, but we do have a 32" HD TV upstairs to watch the World Cup on. And that corner move was ricockulous!

Go Holland!

I realize we've totally usurped the original intent of this thread. Although I understand the Whammy is from Uruguay originally.

You're on the wrong thread. Amazing finish lads.

Mr C and I apologize for clogging up this thread with footy comments. Clearly it has inhibited other, more scintillating baseball-relates posts. We are now flagellating ourselves in retribution.

@DB:

Better to be flagellating than flatulating.

Flatulation has also occurred after our consumption of generous portions of chips (fries) plus HP Sauce.
