Giants End Up On Short End of Stick

Via Big League Stew, the Giants--who come to town tonight positioned one game ahead of the now fourth-place Dodgers--could have been two games ahead of us, if not for a blown call at the plate Sunday which ended up costing the Giants the game:

After spending part of the ninth arguing with the New York Mets, Cuzzi blew a call at the plate that cost the Giants victory in a game that New York eventually won 4-3 in 10 innings.

The Giants, who had rallied against closer Francisco Rodriguez to tie the score, put runners at second and third with one out. Freddy Sanchez hit a chopper to David Wright near third base and Travis Ishikawa broke for home.

Wright's throw home was high and Ishikawa appeared to slide safely across the plate ahead of catcher Henry Blanco's tag. Only, Cuzzi saw it differently. And wrongly.

Here's the play, and Ishikawa looks like he was safe by a mile. And I suppose we should feel bad, right? But instead, all I can think of is this video:
