He is John Ely, and in his last start, he held the hot-hitting Brewers to one earned run over 6 2/3 innings. He won't break 90 mph on the speed gun; instead, he's a location pitcher. Why do you think it is tht so many younger, female baseball fans in the greater-LA area have turned to the Angels? Because you are right; I've definitely noticed it. Not that there aren't a ton of female Dodgers fans around (yeah for you!) but Angels are clearly doing something to attract a younger generation of females.

The "presentation" this year at games has clearly dropped off. They were big on the family atmosphere/text us if you have problems kind of stuff the last couple of years (Sax has weighed in on this experience recently re: Opening Day), but this year it's barely an afterthought. I've also noted here recently the almost scary lack of ushering. Last time I was there I timed it, pretending that I needed immedaite help, and it took a good several minutes for me to walk around and find someone remotely considered a stadium authority. Lots of time for a fight to have gotten way out of hand.
