Scoreboard Watching: July 6 NL West Games

While the Dodgers sit around and go through mental preparations for their three-game series with the Mets (which starts tomorrow), there are three games involving NL West teams:

First up (5:40p PT first pitch), the woeful Nationals play at Colorado, who starts the 10-5 Jason Marquis (the pitcher who owned us last week). The streaky Rockies are 9.5 GB and have lost their last two. Would Rockies manager Jim Tracy be concerned? He would be. Would one be able to notice such concern? One would not.

Next up (6.40p PT) is a tossup between the Padres (16.5 GB) at the Diamondbacks (19.0 GB). 0-2 Walter Silva takes on 4-8 John Garland. Yawn.

Finally, the Giants host the Marlins at 7.15p PT. 9-2 Matt Cain takes the hill for San Francisco versus Sean West (3-2, 4.06). Cain is winless in his last three starts. The Giants are 7.5 GB. Pablo Sandoval is rotund.

Ahem. And?

And Nomar's back in Boston.

Erin said...

Say what you want about Red Sox fans (actually, don't, because I am one), but their loyalty is incredible. Nomar's standing ovation was awesome, and listening to him get choked up about his return in the pre-game press conference was really nice. I had some tears flowing myself.

...and girls, Erin!

Colorado up 1-0 over the Nats, top 3

It's nice to see nomar get that welcome from Boston. It's even nicer to see that Boston is losing.

:)

ps Marquis is still dominating.

So I'm at the airport. I volunteered to give up my ticket for a later flight and a monetary compensation. I got the idea from Carl Weathers.

Oops. It's fanerman. I'm logged in under a fake name for security issues...

NicJ said...

Fanerman- did you take the public shuttle too?

Haha

NicJ said...

Col won. Damn Marquis.

SanDOUGHval hit a grand slam. 5-0 hated ones.

rbnlaw, that's only 3 lbs a vote

wtf, Uggla--second GIDP of the night. Do you want to win this game or not?

Josh S. said...

Uggla is Swedish for unmotivated.

Albert Pujols, Prince Fielder, Ryan Howard, and Adrian Gonzalez will be the NL participants in the Home Run Derby.

"Who wants to see me sock some dingers?!"

"Who wants to see me darn some socks?"

Two on, one out for the Fish, top 9 still down 5-2

Steve Sax said...

Wes Helms: In play, run(s)

Steve Sax said...

5-3, thanks to a Helms Bakery-fresh single to Aaron Rowand in center. Men at first and second, so the tying run is aboard.

Ross Gload PH for the Fish.

...

Ross Gload???

Steve Sax said...

Gload is quickly down 0-2 and seems to be gloading Wilson on

Steve Sax said...

Let's Gload, Fish!

Steve Sax said...

Gloady be, it's now a 2-2 count

Steve Sax said...

3-2 count, this is gloading to be awesome

Steve Sax said...

All that glitters is gload; he works an 0-2 count back into a walk.

Rancho ardiendo!

Bases are gloaded!

Steve Sax said...

Chris Coghlan is Coghlan up a storm up there. Wilson starts out 2-0, then pitches a 98-mph fastball down the middle for a called strike

Steve Sax said...

Coghlan: In play, run(s)

Steve Sax said...

Only one run scores! It's 5-4 with TWO out. Not looking good for big fish tonight.

Men at the corners.

Erin said...

I feel like Gameday should tell you when a play involves both out(s) and run(s).

"A tortured inning for Brian Wilson"--Jon Miller on KNBR

3-1 count. Miller sounds really angry. Both fans at the ballpark seem to be chanting "Let's Go, Giants!"

3-2 count.

Steve Sax said...

Miller wants Wilson to pitch the high fastball again.

Erin said...

Damn it.

Can I just say, thank god Brian Wilson is not our closer.

Steve Sax said...

on the 36th pitch of the inning, Wilson escapes the total meltdown with a comebacker.

Giants win, 5-4. The crowd sounds more relieved than delighted. Must be the chardonnay and sushi talking.

Steve Sax said...

Erin, were you listening to the audio feed as well? I think Miller sweat off a couple of pounds there in the ninth.

Erin said...

Did Sandoval solidify his spot as that "Final Vote" thing with a grand slam tonight?

Steve Sax said...

I think I sweat off at least as much Sunday listening to Brox's meltdown inning

Erin said...

No Sax. I happened to stop by here just a few minutes ago, and realized I could watch the game on TV, so I flipped it over to see the final out.

Steve Sax said...

Oh, I didn't think about tv.

Erin, do you have mlb.com at bat 2009 for your iphone? AC is right, it rocks the house.

Nice, Sax. I didn't even notice. I'm honored.

Christine has the At Bat app for her phone, and I've watched a game on the streaming video more than once already. It's amazing. I'll probably get it for my phone soon, too.
