Post-All-Star Game Thread: AL Wins, Water Is Wet

Chad Billingsley pitched the fifth inning, giving up one run.

Orlando Hudson singled in the eighth.

AMERICAN LEAGUE 4, NATIONAL LEAGUE 3

If an NL West team reaches the World Series, it will have been a division-wide effort that denied them home-field advantage. NL West pitchers surrendered all four of the AL's runs: Starter Tim Lincecum gave up two (one unearned); Chad Billingsley gave up one, and losing pitcher Heath Bell gave up the winning run.

Well, no worries. Even though the All-Star deciding concept may be outdated, the NL is .500 in World Series championships since the rule was instituted in 2003. The Dodgers have gotten this far; home-field advantage in the World Series would have been nice, but not crucial.

Stupid AL.

Homefield actually only matters if the Red Sox play. That damn wall really works to their advantage.

MLASF,

Who'da thought we'd ever say that?

What specifically, that we'd actually worry if the Sox reach the World Series?

Nostradamus said...

That anything, ever, worked to the Red Sox advantage.

Im looking forward to manny jacking a go ahead homerun over the green monster off papeldouche in the top of the ninth.

I can dream can't I?

Nostradamus said...

Nic,

4 out of 5 FSN executives have that dream every night.

True World Series home field advantage is not decided by the winner of the All-Star Game, but by the winner of Game 1.

Also...

Number of times the WS has gone 7 games since the new rule was implemented?

Zero.

In other news; Commissioner Toupee wants 50 game drug suspensions to last longer than 50 games.

It's time to oust the Bud. First, the ridiculous "now it counts" rule for the ASG; the incessant kissing of owners' asses (because he is one at heart); now "the 50 games is 50 games" stance. The guy needs to go.

Oh, and check his stance on the alleged "collusion" by owners during the winter.

I blame Charlie Manuel, the city of St. Louis, and Albert Pujols for the loss. Poo-holes was left in the game for 3 at bats and couldn't get the ball out of the infield. Fielder came in to pinch hit and smacked a double down the line. He should have been in the game sooner, and stayed in longer or came in when Howard pinch hit. Hometown guys seem to try too hard to impress the crowd, then fail.

"Poo-holes"

Priceless.
