Paramount Announces Transformers 2 Remake

Paramount Pictures CEO Brad Grey announced today that the studio is planning a remake of its box-office smash Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. The original opened last Wednesday and has grossed over $400 million in worldwide ticket sales.

"By reimagining this instant classic, we'll be able to bring the legacy of a sequel to a movie based on a toy line to an entirely new generation of fans who weren't paying attention last week," said Grey. "We're looking forward to warming hearts with Optimus Prime and Bumblebee all over again."

Michael Bay, who directed the first two Transformers films, will not be available to direct the remake due to his involvement with Transformers 3: The Return of the Revenge of the Fallen of the Robots That Fell. The remake will not be related to Bay's version and is instead being touted as a "reboot" of the franchise.

The studio is keeping plot details of the new project tightly under wraps; according to anonymous sources, the script is rumored to have some sort of robotic element.

No casting announcements were made, but sources say Zac Efron is being considered for the role of Sam Witwicky, which was originated by Shia LaBeouf. Megan Fox will make a cameo as the heroine's grandmother.
