Comment of the Moment: Trashing The Trayvon Trade

I think we're all pretty pissed at losing a 23-year-old top prospect just to get a package of lesser prospects. Here's what two of you had to say:

First, Fred's Brim:

I, too, am going to ignore the fact that we've dumped Trayvon Robinson for three bags of minor league mulch, one who happens to have a catcher's mitt

Second, Josh S.:

I'm not really one to get all in a rage about traded prospects. Then I found out that what we got for Trayvon is what we would have gotten for Kuroda if he said yes to a Red Sox trade.

So, to recap:

  • The Red Sox tell Ned he can have a few modest pieces in return for two months of Kuroda. A decent value.
  • Kuroda says no.
  • Ned, so infatuated with getting said modest pieces, gives the Red Sox YEARS of Trayvon, which THEY DON'T EVEN WANT, and they flip him to Seattle.

Pretty indefensible.

I have to admit, the longer I think about this deal, the worse it sounds.

where are all the ned colletti defenders now? The guy's utterly shite as a GM who's consistently been hoodwinked by other GMs and agents while his supposed gems were prospects that he inherited from previous regimes.

The simple fact that the guy was a Sabean protege (who traded their top pitching prospect to rent a broken beltran) should have been qualification enough NOT to hire him in the first place.

I can't even describe the fury running through my veins when I heard the trade of Robinson. What happens if we don't resign both of our outfield studs. He will fill the hole with a journey man (giants way) and hope for the best. The worst part is that the review of players we received in return has them projected as bench players.

What really pisses me off is how Ned was just absolutely hoodwinked and he doesn't even care.

Somehow, the Red Sox managed to trade the top prospect of another team for Bedard! How the fuck does that happen?

Also, we might not even keep the guys we got! They're all Rule-5 eligible!

Ned even admitted that the guys are all works-in-progress. He traded a major league-ready outfielder for three fixer-uppers.

The three guys we got for Trayvon will forever be known as "magic beans."

Well, that's not good then, because Dioner and Uribe will eat them.
