Holy cow. Landon Donovan takes the rebound off a Jozy Altidore shot / Clint Dempsey touch off the Algerian goalkeeper, and drills it home, in extra time, to send the US team onward to the second round. I can't believe it.
You can hear the cheers from Bristol CT all the way out here in Los Angeles. I'm sure the ESPN brass is stoked beyond belief.

So we get the winner of Group D? Am I rooting for Ghana and Serbia this afternoon?
Since we won our group, wouldn't we face the second place winner of Group D?
I have no idea how this works.
That was a heart-stopping game from the start. Really entertaining (yes, I said "entertaining," MLASF) football from both sides.
And then everyone's favorite part, when the guy puts the ball into the net. I feel immense pressure has been lifted.
I think we get the runner-up from Group D.
Y'know, the England of the group.

Yeah for some reason I thought we came in 2nd in our group. I might actually root for Germany then.
Yes, USA wins group C and will face #2 from group D. Could be Germany; could be Ghana, could be Serbia. Gives us something to think about.
If Serbia wins and Ghana and Germany tie, the US would face Ghana. If Serbia and Germany both win, the US would face Serbia as they fall to 2nd on goals. If Serbia ties Australia, they should go home and drink themselves into a coma as they failed to beat the weakest squad in the group.
In no way will we face Australia as they suck.

Germany to lose and Australia and Serbia to not tie,
OR, failing that:
Germany and Ghana to tie and Serbia beat Australia,
OR, failing that:
Germany to beat Ghana and Australia to beat or tie Serbia.
1-0 Germany and 1-0 Australia at the moment.
If that stands, US faces Ghana.
Sorry, 2-0 Australia.
