COMMENTS: Dodgers swept by Angels, Lakers lacquered by the Celtics...not a great weekend for the L.A. sports fan. But there's a ray of hope for the once-again-second-place Dodgers as they head to Cincinnati: They traditionally play the Reds well, going 5-1 against them last year.
But this is an improving Reds team, one in first place, in fact. For that, they can point to the help they got from the Dodgers' recent sweep of the Cards. So how about some payback, Cincinnati? L.A. sports fans could use it.

Since this is another Eric Collins game, I revisited my Collins Curse spreadsheet. Looking closer at 2009, there was no evidence to support a curse, other than the Dodgers lost at least one game in every series he called. His series record last year was a respectable 8-4-1.
This year, however, his series record is 0-6.
He will not be calling any of the Boston games.
No worries, VPad will be back in time to take Chad's place in the rotation.

I have this sinking feeling that we're going to finish the Yankees series in third or fourth. Thankfully, the beginning and end of July is "feast on the NL West" time again. The rest of July is made up of teams the Dodgers will be getting a second look at (FLA, NYM, CHC, STL).
Joking aside, we'll have to see if Padilla was hurt or just terrible sooner or later. Might as well be now.

Nic, to be honest, it's a term I've never really heard before, and Collins often tries to shoehorn in goofy terms for ordinary events, so I was confused.

It usually refers to a slow team.
the dodgers are for the most part a station to station team.
the angels are on the opposite end of the spectrum, always trying to take an extra bag, "first to third"
