Hiroki Kuroda (5-4, 3.63) vs. Chris Carpenter (7-1, 2.76).
COMMENTS: Yesterday was nice, but let's face it: It ain't happening again tonight. Still, success is possible, even against St. Louis' best.
"With a career 2.20 ERA in six starts against the Dodgers and a perfect 5-0 record when facing L.A., Carpenter appears primed for another dominant outing," says MLB.com. (Uh, make that regular-season starts.) So how can the Dodgers avoid fulfilling this prophesy?
With the exception of Blake DeWitt's home run, the Dodgers nickel-and-dimed their way to victory last night, and they'll have to do the same tonight to have a chance at winning. Carpenter's 2.79 ground ball-to-fly ball ratio (fourth in the NL) means a lot of worm-killers, but his .269 BABIP also means some of those grounders might find a hole. Let's hope.
Also, this will serve as your Game Thread for Lakers @ Celtics (6 p.m. PT on ABC). Go Purple & Gold!

We get Casey back! And I'll be wearing my Blake shirt as well. I knew I picked the right shirt today.
I've been cursing out friends who "tease" me by saying "go celtics." The Lakers MUST win tonight.
If the Lakers don't win tonight I'm breaking down every last god damned wall at MLASF's crib.
Tch, yeah, like I have any walls left.
Holy crap! The TV mics are picking up about a billion cameras going off when Strasburg delivers.
MLB.com is airing the game live for free. Pretty awesome!
Er, they're actually only showing him pitch. Everything else is blacked out.
MLASF: Whole game is free on them iPhone thingies.
I guess those noises aren't camera shutters. Just a weird noise.
Unfortunately, I don't have an iPhone. I should really look into one though.
iAM surprised espn aint all over this game. they have been hyping strasburg all freakin' year
Now that I think about it, I may have previously mentioned the weird ticky-ticky noise when pitches are delivered at Nats Park.
Anyone know what that is?
Damn, the Washington game has already started and I totally missed the choir of angels.
Hola peeps.
I've been reading from afar and wishing I could contribute. Hopefully, the snark content hasn't suffered in my absence.
@Josh
Is it some sort of sound almost like the sound of someone shuffling a deck of cards?
RB:
Snark factor has dropped, sobriety level increased. Help!
Who was the guy who predicted Delwyn Young would hit a Dinger against Strassburg?
You were correct. Two run shot
Josh called it, no?
Dammit, DB! I'm only one man.
I'll try my best.
I couldn't remember if it was Josh, Nic, or MLSF
It was meeeeeee!
Holy shit! I gotta go buy Lotto.
Yeah Dusty, that's the sound exactly.
Eh. That Strassberg kid will never make it big.
11 K's through 6.
I am not going to lie. Feeling a bit anxious bout the lakes
@DB we'll be twins!
Strasburg is sittin some bitches down.
KKKKKKKKKKKKK
Sister Betsy!
Work is toast. Time to gird my liver for the evening. Fortunately, festivities will be held at a location that will show the game.
Epale everyone!
Josh, are you studying under the guide of Nostry?
Epale karina!
I will either have a heart attack or cry myself to sleep if the Lakers lose.
Oh man. I missed the whole first half. Stupid alarm clock. Oh well. At least we're winning.
*Quarter, not half.
Hello everyone!
Maybe it's an east/west thing but I HATE the Celtics. We have to win this one
To much excitement. We killed Twitter.
Anyone* catch the Spain - Poland friendly today? I'd say they got healthy.
*By anyone, I mean Dusty or Rbnlaw
howdy! how is everyone tonight? Anybody feel like winning a series tonight?
Padres getting their own taste of a hard park to score in
well, Elmer Dessens just came in for the Mets so that may no longer be true
Elmer strands MSB at second, on to the bottom of the 11th
wow that traveled pretty far
ahh there's the beard - i feel better now
Ike Davis hammers one and the Mets beat the Padres. We've got another chance at first.
Of course that means we'll lose tonight, especially with the Lakers winning
and what the hell has gotten into Randy Winn? GAARP, are you watching?
Koki with the big K of Pujols
@Dusty and Nic: I'll be up in the reserve at the top of the 4th to say hey. I have my Win for Vin shirt on.
looks like Chevy Chase, Christian Slater and Ted Williams are in the Mary Hart seats tonight
looks like it'll be just me and whoever can get mobile service at the stadium tonight
Holliday pops out to first after a long battle at the plate - Nice work, Koki!
Sorry FB. So nervous with the Lakers.
@FB...I'm here too, just freaking out over the Lakers
it's OK Mr F - concentrate on the Lakers. They'll get at least one game in Boston.
hmm Raffy Ks on a pitch he could barely see
thanks for dressing up, Rajon
Matty with patience! He draws a 1-out walk, Dre coming up
@karen - no problem - stay focused!
Matty steals second after Manny nearly gets hit
That was a scary pitch that Manny just took
@Mr C you're breaking my heart. It's like the only soccer fans in here are you, Dusty and Rbnlaw.
Or is it a Premier League fans thing?
ooof Manny can't handle the curveball
Seemed like an easy inning.
another good inning from Koki!
wow only 5 pitches for that inning for Koki
damn - Casey hit a slicing poke to right but Ludwick caught up with it
and Blakey D with the soft liner for the third out
@Fred's Brim it seems like everyone is either watching the Lakers game or at Chavez Ravine.
I have a good feeling about this game, you?
ooof, Ray
there have been some fugly shots tonight by some good shooters
I hope so karina. We're still being no hit.
@Mr C didn't get to watch the game but I don't like baseball scores on soccer games. I'm all about defensive soccer, IMHO.
Man, the crowd is depressingly light for a bobble night.
@Josh - I wonder why.
NO, COVER GARNETT!!!
Hi karina! lucky them to be in the stadium tonight!
I feel pretty good about things too, especially since Hiro seems to have found his control, well up until that walk anyway
D'oh. A walk.
eff you Randy Winn! you were never this good!
ugh and here comes Pujols
wow Russ almost got Winn leaking off first
@Mr F yeah, it's a no hit. Don't you think no hits, shutouts and perfectos are too common lately?
It'd suck if the Dodgers got NO HIT, right?
keep taking pitches, guys
Yup karina. I can't believe we're being NO HIT. There have just been way too many NO HITTERS lately. Come on guys. Break up the NO HITTER!
I saw Jerry West once - he was walking around this tiny town in Italy with his wife
NO HITS are so last week, Mr F
No NO-NO!
Raffy with a poke to center
YAY!!! Did you really think you were going to come into our house and no hit us, you dumb bastard!
Yay! Now let's score some runs!
and Matty grounds out to end the inning
Our jinx was a magnificent piece of group work
we have to keep being patient vs Carpenter. It looks like the only pitch he's getting over consistently is that curve and he seems to save that for Manny
Great catch Matty!
Laker game is too close for comfort...
woah! I though that was way gone
and Matt almost overran it, but makes the catch. i'll take it!
that pitch was supposed to be way in but Koki left it over the plate a little
attaboy Koki!
Kobe playing great game but celtics are way to close
Doris Burke's voice is deeper than Jeff Van Gundy's
Pierce with 5 fouls YAY!
run, Dre, run!
Andre takes a chance on Manny's chopper and makes it to 3rd
ok now GET HIM HOME!
If Kuroda stays on his usual self and Dre starts hitting the way he did before the freak pinky accident...
Breaking out the Ben and Jerry's
Dammit James - that was a worthless at bat
cmon Casey!
Dre got to third, they'll score in the next inning!
dammit Casey was so close
that's what James needed to do
GAHHHH
Dumb shot by Rasheed
wow great stop by Blake!
Matt Williams can go to hell. He might be my least favorite Giant of all time. Joe Morgan is close, but he's not really a Giant
great inning Koki! 3 grounders and some nice plays to get them
@karina - what's your prediction for this inning?
Cs blow their second chance at tying or taking the lead. how many more will they get?
cmon guys, take picthes!
my son! lead off single!
Nice bunt, Hiro
My mistake, my son didn't hit a lead off double.
@Fred's Brim I just say what my heart desires, I'm not Josh
Dear God,
I don't usualy bug you with this kind of stuff, but if you could, help the Lakers kick some celtic butt. Amen
Hiro finally gets Winn
KKKKKuroda!
when is Pujols going to get us?
thank you, Kerwin
wow another K for Koki!
OK it's time for some runs
2 wrongs make a right?
karen,
I said that prayer, too.
@Fred's Brim do you really want Pujols to understand Dodgers pitching?
Vin is talking about a non-proposal during the kiss cam. The guy apparently stood up to propose and the girl got up and ran up the aisle!
How we doing? Lakers have me hyperventilating. D Fish!!!
Dre with another double!!
Cmon Manny! Make him pay!
Lakers up by 7 with 48 secs to go
cripes Manny, take a pitch
it's up to you FJL
How can you not love Fish?
sheesh that's no good
Fish, which is my favorite dish
stupid replays - this is wack
Clutch foul?!
@karina - i don't want Pujols to ever figure us out, but I am scared that he will
nice play, Raffy
Clutch SASHA!!!! Hit those free throws!
I can breathe again.
LAKERS WIN!! LAKERS WIN!!!
Vin developing a man-crush on Ryan Ludwick
Ludwick then gets a hit with 1 out
I just switched to the Dodger game, where Vin gave me a warm welcome right on cue. I love Vin.
damn the Lakers win, which means we lose this game
crap - My Dog Skip singles up the middle, 1st and 3rd with 1 out, late arriving Dodger fans to blame if the Cards score this inning
Yes! thats a great time for a double play!
That last "her" really hit a bad note.
Boom GIDP!
I'd be feeling good, only the Lakers won, and the Dodgers tend to lose when that happens
@Fred's Brim "that suggests that what you fear most of all... is fear itself. This is very wise"
Bonus points if someone recognizes this sentence. My money's on Mr F
@Karina - It's obviously FDR.
I'm just joking. I googled it.
I'm surprised the crowd didn't learn about the Laker score sooner.
Did they wait to announce the Lakers score to warm up the crowd?
Run, Blake, Run!
De extra bases!!
Russ hitting .229 with RISP. He is due!!!
man that curve is tough
2-2. Work it to 3-2. Then attack.
How do baseball players develop an addiction to chaw anyway? I hardly see anyone chewing any more.
DeWitt with the Non-Commit.
damn - that wasn't even close
Man that wasn't even close.
Oh joy, GAARP is up.
Exactly FB.
Well my gameplan fr Russ worked.
Tonight does not belong to Blake DeWitt.
GAARP puts a bow on this disappointing inning
That probably could've scored DeWitt from third.
Just saying.
GA no track power.
@Paul - it all seemed to be working, and I would have sent him too, but a great throw and not so speedy running did him in
But the night does belong to Lovers.
Dodgers are 2-0 in games where Dusty and I have a chat at the Ravine. So, we should be good tonight.
Kip enters the game to his favorite group the Jackson 5.
Why won't Ryan get rid of the pornstache?
HCK in to protect our 0-0 lead
Kuo I mean.
OK we got Carpenter out
@Mr LASF wrong google answer
@Steve Sax isn't it a nice night to break a jinx?
No, I mean I know what the real answer is. I was just joking by saying FDR.
It is going to take some time for Carpenter to get over not getting the W.
that was a strike 2 pitches ago, blue
dammit ump, that's your hit there
It think the dodgers have only just begun to get their offense going now that Carpenter is out.
Top of the lineup up. Can we get something going?
She said yes!
It was only yesterday the Dodgers scored 12.
Have no fear, Neeebs is here.
Oh great, now I have fear. Thanks a lot, Neeebs.
wow Dre was really tricked on that one
Neeebs!! Bringing the heat!!
Fear not the bat of Manny.
alright Dre!
Andre's getting his groove back!
C'mon Manny you're due to do something Manny like
Manny: Res Ipsa Loquitor
Manny needs a clutch AB to for Neeebs. You ow him at least that Manny.
Manny certainly does not deserve that fanfare.
Manny is a fertile octogenarian.
no double plays
New pitcher, different result.
New pitcher, different result.
