John Ely (3-3, 3.38) vs. Bronson Arroyo (5-3, 4.80).
COMMENTS: On perhaps the second-most important day in 2010 Los Angeles sports history (the first-most important day coming in late October), the Dodgers take on the Reds vying for a rare road sweep. And the only thing standing between us and a weekend series at Boston that will be hyped to death is...Bronson Arroyo. Will we make Arroyo grande? Or will a Dodgers victory be just the first step in a full day of Los Angeles team victories?

It's a good time to turn up the mania again!
The first-most important day being...?
*is dumb*
The Dodgers Game 6 victory over Tampa in the 2010 world Series?
I'm so happy this game is early. No channel flipping later. I can concentrate on the Lakers tonight.
Fred - That's what I was thinking!
@dodgerbobble - I am happy with the early game too. I just gotta make sure I don't have any meetings this afternoon. My calendar is clear so far... *knocks on wood*
Today will be our finest hour!!
And that hour not minute too soon!!!
No doubt that minute will be the second we have all been waiting for....
Gmornin Paul! Have you figured out your Boston plans yet?
Fred - good luck
Oh my god, why don't you just start a game thread and comment about the game in that thread?
Dusty is finally here!
Epale everyone!
DeWitt
Kemp
Ethier
Loney
Blake
Anderson
Ellis
Carroll
Ely
Raffy on bereavement leave for some reason not yet disclosed. Hu called up but not in time to make the game.
This is a really early game.
Dusty Bottoms! welcome back
Went to a show last night that you would have enjoyed: It was a free show in Bed-Stuy featuring Big Daddy Kane. Chubb Rock and Greg Nice came out for some quick guesty action. Jazzy Jay of the Soulsonic Force was hanging out too
FASCINATING lineup.
Sorry to hear about Raffy.
Welcome back, Dusty!
@FB
Sweet show!
For a second I read your post to say "Jazzy Jeff" and sadly I thought that was kinda cool, too.
Per Dodger Thoughts:
"Furcal went to Domincan Republic to see ailing family member. Out 3-7 games"
Who got called up?
No, Hu's at SS.
DeWatt's on second.
And he bailed out?
No. Andy hung tough.
Reds are Looooooooooooosers!!! Always getting beat up by the Dodgers. They must be very intimidated.
Breakfast with the Dodgers.
@Josh good one, Josh :)
tweeted about ElyMania, for superstition.
Per Steve Lyons, you've gotta hit and pitch and play well.
There has to be a managerial opening for this guy.
DeWitt is leading off. Very strange.
Death Wish is all over the place.
start the game already
I hope Bronson caves.
I see the iPhone delay is still plaguing Sax.
Dammit.
Andre still sucks in the clutch.
holy crap, DeWitt likes him the leadoff spot!
first and second no outs
not good, Andre. GIDP
dang it.
Why the hell is Andre swinging after only one pitch? He just saw Bronson go three balls on the two batters ahead of him.
what a waste.
I feel like that was a missed opportunity.
And now Gameday Audio has crapped out.
f'ing a, that was a tease of a first inning. And only 14 pitches for Charles Bronson Arroyo Grande.
i am clearly on iPhone delay, you're right Josh S
Where's my flippin' audio?!
two outs in the bottom of the first, right?
That was sure a long single.
Hey Ladies and Gentlemen
Blake DeWitt leading off feels a little strange
Sorry to hear about Raffy. God's speed to him and his family
Welcome back Dusty:)
This broadcast team just gets sillier and sillier. It's like they just snagged a couple of guys from the Delta house and gave them a mic. It's just yuk-yuk-yuk and oh, there happens to be a baseball game going on, which we might mention between inside jokes, bad, trite jokes, lame references, etc.
Four pitch walk to AJE.
^ "Four-pitch"
ELY FTW!!!
Still no audio, desktop or iPhone.
ELY CAN DO IT ALL
Maybe Ely should be the sub for Furcal the next two games
Seriously, nobody's realized that they shouldn't be swinging early against a guy who's given up three walks already?
This strike zone is baffling. Yesterday it was extremely and even unfairly low. Today the ump is sometimes calling low balls as strike and at other times calling pitches to the same spot as balls. I would be frustrated as a player or manager. Pick a strike zone and stick to it, wherever it may be.
Ely can DH in Boston.
Ely can DH in Boston.
Blogger is broken too.
Is Ethier getting slower when he "runs?"
UIBB so Ely can face the pitcher.
holy crap, corky miller has pathetic career stats.
Come on Ely, don't walk a .071 hitter
Damn
Ely was better off facing Corky.
Oh John :(
Arroyo counters the Ely RBI
Did he just give up a HR to Bronson Arroyo?
This phony ElyMania has bitten the dust.
that's just effing embarrassing.
Ha ha! Good joke, guys. Bronson Arroyo hitting a home run? Hilarious!
Mouth = agape.
Why are Dusty's comments the only thing coming through blogger?
How long were you waiting to use that line, DB?
WHERE ARE MY COMMENTS?!
Can we wait 'till the game ends?
Matty still not looking at pitches
Now it's FB too. WHAT ABOUT ME????
Blogger being weird
Oh. There they are.
@Mr F
Quite some time.
Though I think I used it a ways back either on the Twitters or in another thread. Nonetheless, it's decidedly most appropriate in this situation.
What's with blogger? The comments aren't coming out in sequence.
Now Gameday's getting jumpy.
Blogger borked.
Gameday borked.
Ely REALLY borked.
Someone doesn't want me to enjoy this game.
Kemp is now batting .267
what the hell is going on, matt?
Johnny has lost his mojo
Apparently the Reds have scored two more runs. Fucking Ely.
@Josh same here and Chavez is on radio and tv chain for the third time in three days.
Why is everything stalled?
Hopefully a Dodger loss portends a Lakers championship.
Mitch Poole better get the hot water running in the showers. Can't be long now for Ely.
MSB in the house
^ I didn't mean to imply that the two would shower together, for the record.
Just checking in now.
Arroyo? Really?
christ on a bike
i think they've figured out the changeup
When John Ely's father Jor-Ely placed him in a rocket ship and sent him here, he neglected to mention that Earth's yellow sun would weaken him.
Jints and Madres off today. Win or lose, we're still in first.
Garret Anderson and his .168 average must be stopped
Corky Miller, really?
Arroyo pulls a Garret Anderson (GIDP)
Wait - we're playing the Red Sox soon? And the crazy thing is the Manny returning to Fenway as a story line. Whoa, duuuude. It's just now sinking in. Can't wait to hear more about this.
Got a theory: when Ely saw Arroyo, he saw an older lookalike and freaked out, not even John Ely is not afraid of John Ely.
MSB Ackbar lead walks!
Dusty: You kid, but the "Manny back to Boston" story hasn't gotten nearly the coverage that the Yankees 7-game mini plans have.
Easy on Ely. He's done a great job up until today. Everyone is entitled to an occasional bad day at the office.
Dammit Kemp, snap out of it!!!
@MB Love the avatar!
Well, the Dodgers can't sell a mini-plan for the Red Sox series.
How 'bout them Lakers?
*clicks off TV*
Are you freaking kidding, Josh? We're playing the Yankees? Why didn't anyone say anything before??
Thanks Karen. It was time to update the self portrait. I'm still searching for the right one. Maybe if I throw on a Dodgers cap it will be complete : )
@MLASF: They sold "road trips."
Ely is GASSED.
You see how much trouble they're having with the mini-plans. There's no way they could effectively market the road trips.
i can't see the game but I am guessing there are a lot of meatballs flying around
Damn you Jay Bruce
It's pathetic when a GAARP single out gets a sigh of relief (rather than a double play)
Double damn you, Jay Bruce.
Well, I hope that the Lakers play better than we are.
We're making Corky Miller look like he corkys his bat.
Hey kids!
Wow, this could really be going better.
Hey Mr.C
You're right, this game has been a bit of a bummer
Jamey Carrol can't make an out today
this game is doing a nice job of supporting our crazy run differential
we are getting payback for that 6-unassisted DP yesterday
and Joe throws in the towel
Off to the World Cup thread for some hot FRAMEX action.
oh Charlie, don't bring up Phillips story
dammit - I wanted to break Ol' Arthur Rhodes' runless streak, but I didn't want to do it down 7-1.
For shits and giggles, I'm running the audio streams of the Dodger game and FRA/MEX simultaneously.
Steiner and vuvuzelas together may be worse than waterboarding.
Where did the guys go to party last night in Cincy?
Kemp 0-for-3 with a walk
Andre 0-for-4
Loney 0-for-2 so far
I heard Bob Huggins was in town...
Is Steiner sitting on a vuvuzela?
GADP coming up?
at what point should Joe cut the shit with giving all of these old timers days off?
take the walk!
Here comes Manny!
Rancho MANNYendo!
Manny having a good hair day
wack
But having a bad at the plate day
Manny's already got his mind on the ladies he left on Boston
7-run ninth coming up.
i'll take 6 if that's ok
i'm not greedy
anybody else already nervous about the Boston series?
Ugh. Belliard has been more worthless than GA lately.
Belliard's got his mind on Manny's Boston scraps
Game over, man. Game over!
woo that was fun
fireworks, you can go to hell
They can't sweep all the time. Right?
Garrett Anderson PA watch: 103
Andrew Jones 2008 PA: 238
Collins Curse:
While this is the first series win called by Collins in 2010, the Dodgers have yet to sweep a series that he calls (dating back to the beginning of 2009).
Andruw*
Andruw's OPS+'d higher in 2008 than GA has OPS+'d thus far: 35 to 22.
Ok everyone, time to focus the mojo juices on the Lakers
I think the Ely dream is fading.
Where does anyone go to party in Cincy?
