The Truth Hurts

From "The L.A. Lakers as a unifying principle" by Chris Erskine at the LA Times:

"It's the only thing the people can trust," Magic Johnson explained to me the other day. "They trust the Lakers.

"When I first got here, it was a Dodger town," Magic said. "We went on that incredible run, and the town changed and they fell in love.

"Now, when you think about it, all those young fans are parents now, and so we have a second generation of Laker fans.... And we owe it all to Dr. Buss."

Oh man, thanks for the reminder, Magic.

I trust the Dodgers to infuriate me. Does that count?

I feel like giving up

This will always be a Laker town. As long as the Dodgers aren't winning championships, it will remain a Laker town.

From what I've seen over the last week, I can't imagine a championship this year. They can't even beat a quality American League team. It's sad.

They can't even beat a quality AL team... once. Not a series. Can't even win a game. Ugh.

Look back to what happened post 1988.
The Lakers had setbacks and rebuilt. The Dodgers had an amazing run of Rookies of the Year, yet could never capitalize. Then Fox; then the Parking Lot Attendant.

We're basically screwed until ownership changes.

I am calling for an SOSG coup of the team ownership. We are a smart and connected bunch. I wonder if we as a group have the resources to create a pool of money (our own and from other sources) to purchase the team.

I agree with FB. We need to start raising money. I suggest an SoSG bake-sale. And insider trading. Bake-sale and insider trading.

I've been practicing baking cookies from scratch. I use 2 different kinds of flour.

Insider bake sale.

I don't know. If I could raise that kind of scratch, I think the last thing I'd want to buy is the Dodgers right now.

Maybe a solid gold house and a rocket car.

RB can get his hands on about $10 grand pretty quickly.

I can start lobbying for some corporate tax breaks and some earmarks to help the purchase as well.

New avatar, to serve as a reminder that, even when the offense is at its most pathetic, we can still beat the Angels.

I can host bar if we have a charity event.

We could sell Neeebs to the streets.

Sons (and Daughters) of Steve Garvey calendar where we dress up like firefighters and strike sexy poses?

"Sons of Steve Garvey Bear Porn" would sell a TON of copies before buyers realized what it actually was.

Bears With Low Self-Esteem?

OK, I I come up with the 10K, I want total control over all important decisions like how many concession stands to open on the reserve level and what beers are sold throughout the stadium and for what cost.
Hint: Budweiser and damn cheap.

Oh, Dodger Dogs will be rolled back to a buck each. Anyone caught ordering chardonnay or fois gras will be sent immediately to the Big Phone.
