Post-Game 78 Thread: Giants Felled, Chardonnay Ruined

DODGERS 8, GIANTS 2

Giants fans rolled out of bed early this morning, only to find a black fly in their chardonnay. Isn't it ironic? The Dodgers wrap up a 4-11 interleague schedule, get destroyed by an epic Yankees comeback, and roll into town with their tails between their legs...only to leave San Francisco with a clean sweep and things seemingly back on track.

Vicente Padilla matched the seven innings that John Ely pulled off the day before (Padilla went 7.0 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 5 Ks), giving our overworked bullpen a bit of rest. Rafael Furcal (4-for-5) busted out a three-run HR in the fifth, and Kemp (making his first start in four games) went 3-for-4 with a solo shot of his own. Jamey Carroll went 2-for-2 with 2 BB and 3 R.

On the negative side (if there is a negative side of pounding your archrivals in the coda of a three-game sweep), Garret Anderson went 0-for-5 with four, count 'em, FOUR strikeouts, dropping his batting average to a putrid .180. Oh, and George Sherrill entered in the ninth with a seven-run lead and gave up hits to two of his three batters faced, elevating his ERA to 6.98, and needing Justin Miller for the rescue. Anytime you want to pull the ripcord on Anderson or Sherrill, Joe, be my guest.

Now, we make PARTY!

Or go back to work for a few hours.

Either way.

YESSIR!! I like it!

I think the best possible situation would be to somehow get Breezy 2 or 3 good outings in a row near the trading deadline so we could deal him. I like Breez and hope he does well, but he's just no good right now. He's like Mota was early last season, where it was a virtual guarantee he was going to give up runs every time. Can we put Brad Ausmus on the case?

I could really go for a nap right now.

Hey. Saw most of the end of this one at Phillipe whilst waiting for my double-dip beef, washed down with a cold Bud.
A sweep to top things off is nice.

Heading to San Antonio, TX in the morning,so I'll be sporadic, or more so, for the next couple of weeks.

Go Niederland!

Josh S. said...

Thanks, rbnlaw! You just answered my question, "Where should I eat lunch on Friday?"

Josh S. said...

(Philippe's, not San Antonio.)

Kyle Baker said...

Sweep, up in dis bish!

Steve Sax said...

rbnlaw, have a good time in TX. I'm jealous about the Philippe's.

And the Bud, of course.

MR.F said...

Have fun rbnlaw.

I think I need a Matt Kemp-esque timeout.

PUBSY STEREO can also be spelled. Sounds like some new band that Mr. C is into.

dodgerdoll said...

And now it's time to show Arizona that we still own them. Maybe if I'm lucky there will still be a chance to order a diamondbacks garden gnome.

Josh S. said...

Though it's spelled wrong, you could also call him Bustey Poser.

Nostradamus said...

@db

If I ever start a band, I'm calling it Pubsy Stereo.

Giants send Molina packing.

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

At Molina's pace, he's probably still outside AT&T right now.

Josh S. said...

That was our last (direct) chance to rip on Bengie.

*pours one out*
*Bengie swings at it*

Nostradamus said...

Not even that far. He made them wait until he finished making a sandwich.

Nostradamus said...

The Rangers are collecting old, broken-down Angels.

*kicks GA under the table*

I sure wish they'd put those Forever Young commercials on again like when they ran them so much leading up to last year's All Star Game. I rarely like or enjoy commercials (exception: MSB) but I loved these. Mainly b/c of Jackie stealing 2nd.

May your feet always be swift...

And may you have a strong foundation when the winds of changes shift. Gotta love that song.

Im going to miss watching Molina hit into the worlds slowest DP's.

I hope that Posey turns out to be a perennial all-star that hits sub .200 against the dodgers for his career.

I'm just taking a moment to reflect on the beauty that is the PGT title: "Giants Felled, Chardonnay Ruined"

rbnlaw said...

Dudes (and various ladies),
Still packing. . .and having a few on a warm summer night. I'll try to check in on the GT's in the coming weeks.

As for Phillipe, took rbnlaw II and III after dropping Grandma rbn, Aunt rbn, and rbnlawIV off at Union Station. They're taking the train to SA and we'll meet them there. My brother lives there. All were impressed by the whole scene at Phillipe. The sandwiches rocked out loud and made the ride home tollerable.

As I said before, I'll be visiting Shiner, TX while I'm there. I'll try to post some pics via tweetpix.

I LOVE OUR OWNERSHIP OF THE NL WEST!!! (and the MCC)

The city is a buzz that Rico Suave is a giant.

Paul said...

No Oak Chards are big these days. The Giants hitters know not to use the wood much.

Kyle Baker said...

Also form MCC:

"I'm already anxiously waiting for the 2010-2011 warriors season."

Somewhere halfway through the PGT, people started talking about the live game.

Worst baseball blog ever. I have to shower after I try to read that thing.

However...I'm going back in...

Paul said...

Oh wait no confirmation yet that Rico is the ptbnl.

Used my Dodger credit card twice up here tonight only to pay it off tomorrow but I love the negative reaction I get.

I've got one of those BofA-issued debit cards. Love pulling that sucker out in SF.

MR.F said...

I got one of those, too.

Kyle Baker said...

Mr F-

There is a "Mr F!" at McCovey Chronicles. You undercover over there, or is that your bizarro?

Paul said...

Wow we could do a commercial guys.

MR.F said...

WTF!!! What a biter!

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

Undercover...that's not a bad idea

Just call me "Mr. Loves All San Francisco"

Josh S. said...

MCC is still better than giantsboard.com.

Paul said...

This has to be the most unexpected road sweep of the jints. Second only to their stadium opener. Kevin Elster had three homeruns in the first game. Kevin Elster!! That would be like GA getting two doubles in a game.

Nostradamus said...

@Paul

I don't know about BofA, but every time you post, I feel the urge to crack a Colt 45.

Nostradamus said...

I am most pleased with the sweep. It would only be enhanced by a San Diego crash-and-burn.

Paul said...

Wait I just talked myself out of my own opening statement. Damn you foggy air.

rbnlaw said...

Christ, those people are something. . .awesome!!

I’M NUMBER….four? /quote

I love all the references to code and projects. They are sooooo Silicon Valley up in that bish.

Speaking of which; new buttons for Erin to make: "SoSG Up In This Bish"
and " Now, We Make Party!"

rbnlaw said...

What, we don't rate a mention?

"There's way too much agreement over at TBLA
I think all the comments are written by the same guy. Also, treating the whole Rowand-Padilla thing as an overreaction by the Giants fans really underscores how delusional we all are in LA."

Fush you mang.

rbnlaw said...

MLASF:
They already have a poster named, "SF Guy."

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

@Rbn - Could you provide a link to the TBLA post?

Paul said...

We think World Series rings are a big deal.

rbnlaw said...

From MLBtraderumors.com:

"Those numbers are eerily similar to Molina's, though there's no question that Molina's offensive track record inspires more confidence than Matt Treanor's."

Yes, but he gets Misty May at the end of the day, and that's something.

rbnlaw said...

MLASF, I think this is it:

If not, use DB's link and scroll down about 3/4 of the way.

rbnlaw said...

Sorry, it's not the link, but it;s close.

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

I don't think anybody really knows we exist outside of the Dodger blogosphere.

Paul said...

I don't exist outside of this blog....wow this is heavy.

NicJ said...

LeBron's coming to LA.

He is going to replace Manny in LF.

Paul said...

Ted Lilly to the Dodgers. I have a very close source.

Paul said...

The source is from 1996 but whadda ya goin to do.

Neeebs (The Original) said...

@Paul

LOL. I had a vision of the 3d commercial with that comment. Don't take off your glasses or you will disappear.

rbnlaw said...

Rumor:
Nic's avi traded to SOSG for The Delino and a Lasorda to be named later.

Kyle Baker said...

I SoSG therefore I am.

@rbnlaw
I'm just reading the comments. If you're still reading and haven't left be sure to bring things to stay dry. We are getting fall out rain from Alex. It's supposed to last several days.

@Mr C

Just waking up in the morning makes me want to crack a Colt 45.
