Post-Game 76 Thread: Beard Bomb

DODGERS 4, GIANTS 2

The Dodgers turn five double plays against the Giants tonight, tying a Los Angeles Dodgers record for the 11th time, allowing us to get out of jams right and left. As Vin pointed out as we cut back to the bottom of the ninth, the five DPs included a hilarious fly out to right field by Edgar Renteria, allowing right fielder Andre Ethier to hold pinch-runner Aaron Rowand at third while throwing home on a low strike, which was cut off and thrown to Rafael Furcal to nail a very slow-moving Pablo Sandoval in no man's land between first and second. Rowand doesn't even score from third when, on the next batter, Casey Blake makes a fine play on Bengie Molina's dribbler to third, and the Dodgers escape the seventh clinging to a 2-2 tie.

The Giants, by the way, were non-plussed by KFP's gaffe.

Blake promptly came out in the eighth and hit a two-run jack to left field to put the Dodgers up 4-2. And with Jonathan Broxton surprisingly unavailable (he only threw 48 pitches last night), Hong-Chih Kuo came out to walk a highwire, letting the tying run aboard, but get the save.

Chad Billingsley comes off the DL to pitch an impresive six innings of two-run ball, Manny Ramirez goes 3-for-3 with a RBI, and Andre Ethier gets a sacrifice fly RBI of his own. The Dodgers needed this win to recover from all the AL beat-downs. And now, please excuse me as I hope for Jackie Johnson (who looks like she's not on KCAL9 news this evening...sigh).

How many threads does MCC have going? 8? 15?

So Lebron, Bosh, AND Wade to miami?

Wow, and they say the lakers dont have a bench, wait till they see the Heats this year.

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

Bosh and LeBron sign max deals, then Wade returns thanks to Bird rights? Smart. Very smart.

Steve Sax said...

That is not Jackie Johnson.

Here's a gem from MCC:

>Hitter’s count!

>i read this as hitler’s count

>Which would favor the Dodgers!

Has nobody in San Francisco ever hear of Godwin's Law?

NicJ said...

Still dont have enough Length to deal with a Healthy Bynum/Pau. Bosh is a jump shooter.

Is Jermaine a FA?

I am listening to MIA even if the Dodgers don't anymore because I fly like paper get high like Timmah.

I am going to punch the fucking wall after trying to read MCC GTs. Jesus christ, it's like some 1994 style online user group. It makes Blogger look cutting edge.

Josh S. said...

MCC makes me want to give you guys a big hug. What an incoherent mess.

They did give me this gem, though.

Oh, and Jackie Johnson was promoted to Channel 2 a few months back. The only boobs we'll get on KCAL over the next two days will be wearing orange and black.

Kyle Baker said...

Good find, Josh. Can someone give me a link to the Beard jack before I walk down to the tracks and shoot myself?

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

They use ten posts just to say "Beat LA." If that doesn't paint a picture of what that blog is, I don't know what will.

Good outing tonight, HLACK!

Man The Gap in the city tomorrow will be crowded with all the Giant fans needing some shopping therapy.

Kyle Baker said...

I like the bit where some dude says at least Billingsley didn't get the win, which positively affected his fantasy baseball league. Everyone just piles on the poor SOB.

NicJ said...

It seems like it always goes:

"Finish Him"

"FUCCCCCKKKKK"

Kyle Baker said...

Hah! The Gap!

I'll bet the wine and cheese stores will be brimming with Gnats fans needing to drown their sorrows. there's a run on pouilly fuisse!

Paul said...

I love Frisco. I just don't know why they are so angry at us. We get it you like scarfs!!!

NicJ said...

@ Paul, HA!

@mr la sf 10:49p: I didn't know of Godwin's Law. Thanks, bud! Learn something new every day!

My poor dad still has his pint of ice cream here. He was going to open it up as a victory meal last night. I would send it over but it is late and he has the 12 and 20 gauge too close for me to scare him if he is sleeping.

@sax

But have you heard of Rule 34?

Steve Sax said...

Josh S 10:53p: I would so love to use that animation in the thread, but only have my iPhone right now...

MCC PGT title:

"Giants throw a Molotov cocktail at our soul"

NicJ said...

i think my favorite part of watching Ubaldo highlights is the part when they mention his record. Kershaw laid that one loss on him.

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

If you think we take a loss badly, those guys slit their wrists after a two-run defeat.

Steve Sax said...

Rule 34, I know.

I also am quite fond of the rule of 72 btw; that has come in handy lots during my career.

Nostradamus said...

I don't know how you guys can stand it over there. I don't have the stomach for it, schadenfreude or no.

NicJ said...

Hopefully this lets Joe know that the other guys in the pen can get outs.

Yes when its against the giants it still counts.

NicJ said...

MCC said the only good thing Blake has ever done is get traded for Santana.

Ouch.

Kyle Baker said...

@Mr C

I meant only to read a few posts but then got sucked in. It's hilarious. Very few posts consist of anything more that "F U C K I'M GOING TO SHIT ON MY OWN GRANNY IF HE STRIKES OUT" over and over. Makes us look like Baseball Prospectus.

NicJ said...

Hopefully someone shows Torre a clip of what happened to Zumaya today.

Paul said...

I'll be doing my Mark Twain winter here in a few days. At least in July I can go around union square and tell the Euros that Disneyland is closed for the next month.

Kyle Baker said...

MLB Network highlighted Kemp's woes and said he was on a timeout. Ouch. But true.

Nostradamus said...

@nicJ

Just bring up AJ Pierzynski, that shuts 'em up quick.

NicJ said...

Now if only AJ would shut up.

Kyle Baker said...

Loney Fan, for the love of god, can you make one more post so we can see your avatar?

MR.F said...

Sigh. I fail at life.

Orel said...

Why so glum, chum?

Josh S. said...

Well, Mr. F did say he had a chance to go to the game, so either he didn't go or he left before Beard's homer.

Fred's Brim said...

yay, us!
boo, them!

MR.F said...

I'm (so far) planning on going to tonight's game. But my life failure has more to do with a botched attempt at laundry.

Orel said...

Then you fail at laundry?

Steve Sax said...

hey, can any of you guys explain to me how to embed that great animated gif? I'm having a lot of trouble here.

MR.F said...

Laundry is a part of life! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Josh S. said...

Sax: It's not embedding like a normal image file? Does Blogger not accept GIFs?

Steve Sax said...

Usually we can just embed 'em (we have a great one of Sandoval falling on the basepaths), but this time that image with the link shows up. Looks like MCC has the same issue with their embedding of this GIF. Oh well, I've linked to it.

Josh S. said...

You could always save it to your drive, re-upload it, and give credit.

karina said...

Guys, I'm really proud of you last night. It was the most entertaining GT.

Didn't join the fun because I was salty and didn't want to spread any of it around, so I watched the game on tv.

p.s I love you too, Sax.

Loney Fan said...

Sorry DB, I did not see your comment earlier. Not that it mattered because I had already changed back to my original avatar for Dodger luck.

rbnlaw said...

Know what the hardest thing to see in Vegas is?
A Dodger game on TV.
Luckily, I caught the end of this one at the tequila bar at Treasure Island (more on that scene later). Had the pleasure of sitting next to a Gnat fan.

With each out in the 9th, I clapped, and he just sighed. Freaking awesome. Made up for hearing the implosion on the way in on Sunday.
