Vicente Padilla (1-1, 6.65) vs. Tim Wakefield (2-5, 5.42).

COMMENTS: Well, the Red Sox beat the Dodgers yesterday. OMG, why does nothing good ever happen to L.A. sports teams? Today we welcome back the gentle soul Padilla, who can help the team simply by not being a rookie. And the Dodgers get a little karmic payback from Charlie Haeger's starts, as veteran wafty-baller Wakefield hopes to befuddle their bats. It's the gunner versus the floater; place yer bets!

That guy in the stands with the dodger jersey looks like an old out of shape Ethier.
I'm afraid I'm out of action on this one, gents. Get your vuvuzela on and cheer on the Dodgers!
Is that an inset or is someone holding up a picture of someone holding up a sign?
Anyone blowing a vuvuzela in here will get it shoved up their arse!

MonoStereo to the DL with a...blister?
Schlichting gets a schtay of exschecuschion!
GAARP starting! There's no way we get embarrassed on national TV now!
That damn homer will keep GAARP on the team for another month.
My reaction to J.D. Who coming out of the game after hurting his hamstring: "Drew injured? Shocking."
I have three parties to attend this day; two involve drinking.
Wish me luck, lads and lady.
RB, I wish you all the luck in the world on that one party that is inexcusably dry.
I would have liked to see Johnson.
I think JD Drew injured himself while injuring himself.
I'll be at my niece's birthday party in the park during today's game. I'll be following the game on my phone and I'll snark if I get the chance.
Did DB really say that he wants to see some Johnson?
I thought so.
So we have two pitchers on the DL, with one coming back. As it stands, the rotation is:
Padilla
Kuroda
Kershaw
Ely
I don't feel very comfortable with this going into the Yankee series.
Wait — we're playing the Yankees???
Finally I got someone (Neeebs) to take the bait!
According to Joe Buck, we have not had good pitching this year.
Giants lost again! Huzzah!
According to our pitchers, Joe Buck has not announced well this year.
Well I could have told you that.
According to Tim McCarver, Wakefield should throw his first pitch for a strike. Excellent analysis.
I think Charley just said "in fact" about five times in the spa. On three sentences.
Oh goody...GAARP all day
...and Hi ladies and gents!
^in the span of
It's going to be a good day, Matty hit the ball
JMart looked like a schoolgirl trying to hit that knuckler. With Haeger out, I guess the hunter has become the hunted.
Dammit. OK, where's the cake?
Andre had to hit that one to the deepest part of the park.
It sounded like JMart struck out on one pitch, ala the Bugs Bunny cartoon.
I think McCarver just likes saying "Grady Little."
Epale, everyone!
I'm late because I had to make some popcorn, which it's my first meal of the day.
V-Pad works a 1-2-3 inning on 12 pitches. Not bad.
Epale, Karina!
Epale Karina
Eat some popcorn for me
Holy shit that thing was smoked.
McCarver wants to go over ever single thing Manny did in Boston.
Manny steals a base! Beard drive him in!
@karen sure
Crap. It all falls on GAARP.
Blahnderson in
GAARP RBI?
That was unexpected.
and Blahnderson drives the run in, shutting us up, @Mr LASF
Y'know what, Joe Buck? Just come right out and say the Dodgers suck. We all know that's what you're thinking. Just say it. Grow a pair and say it.
Way to go, son!
Duke Snider is the "Great Dodgers great."
Matty got some lovin' last night...maybe it'll help
Oh my god, Kemp, what the hell was that?
Then again...
@MLASf
I'm totally not giving u grief, but is this the first time u have come across the Fake Umps? (per ur tweet)
I'll send some comments about them when I'm not getting the stinkeye from Mrs Dusty here at the restaurant. I was at the day game at the Ravine last year when they did a Dodger game.
So did kemp forget how to take a lead or does he just think he is fast enough to steal without one?
I've just never seen them before. I guess I just don't pay that much attention to the backstop.
Andre's lost all of his clutchness. Damn pinky.
What's this Matty got some lovin stuff? #TMI
How are we so overmatched against Wakefield?
A good knuckleball makes for some really sad sack looking strikeouts
Is that a mic on our MSB?
@DB Rhianna is in town so I'm just sayin'
It's raining a lot and DirecTV stopped working and Gameday isn't work for me, what's going on? still tied?
Aw dammit.
Joe spoke to soon about VPad
@Karina Martinez just hit 2 run homer. Score is 3-1 in bot of 4
God dammit Battle Toad. Well if he can't beat em, please start throwing at them.
Rihanna consistently has the shittiest haircut in showbiz.
Also Z Greinke has a tiny head.
Rancho Fenwayiend.....not. Just practicing. Sorry for false alert.
This is frustratingly awful.
Thanks Karen.
Dusty, do you know there's "guy pretty" and "girl pretty"?. Rihanna most of the time falls in the category "girl pretty". I dig most of her haircuts even when she (or her stylists) make questionable sartorial choices.
I bet you don't like jumpsuits or gladiator sandals, do you?
MANNY!!!!
Manny over the Green Monster
@Karina
I'm vaguely aware. I know that often many women will get really shitty haircuts that aren't aesthetically pleasing except to other women who will say things like "oh your hair is so cute" after seeing a friend's haircut that looks like Sinead O'Connors do. I also am fully feminist realized and appreciate that women can and should get any cut they want and do so in a way that pleases themselves and not just to please a male (or female) suitor. On the other hand that doesn't excuse the reality that some women just have some really really shitty, aesthetically unpleasing cuts that not even a momma would like. Like Rihanna's mushroom head looking thing she always rocks. She's like the female Kid N Play.
In short: just because u can doesn't mean u have to.
Wow, we suck.
McCourt's in Boston.
I was wondering when they were going to get to Shpunt
This telecast turned into a joke so fast once McCarver brought up Shpunt.
MCCarver can go Schpunt himself.
DeTriple for DeWitt!!!
Er, DeDouble and DeError for DeWitt.
Got in time to see DeWitt's triple!
New game, ladies and gents!
Tie game!
YESSSS!!!!
@Karina Whats your son got going on with his upper lip there?
@Karina
is JMart's moustache "girl pretty" or "guy pretty"?
@karen @Dusty definitely guy pretty, in a very humble opinion.
Also, Dusty, I love how you're opinionated and respectful about women;s fashion.
@Mr LASF @Nic J @Dusty @everyone else who likes the Lakers on Thursday night, I went to a bar to see my brother performing in one of the bands he's in.
Everyone was watching the game and I was rooting for the Lakers (it was 8 minutes left in the 4th quarter) . Next to us, there were (or was?) a bunch guys wearing green shirts, rooting for the Celtics.
One of them approaches me: "sweetheart" what do you know about basketball, there are more players than Kobe, you can root for a better team, blah blah...
Me: don't call sweetheart because I don't know you ,I do know my Lakers: Ron Ron, the Fish, Pau...besides I root for any LA team that isn't the Angels or the Clippers.
Guy: wanna bet for the Lakers?
Me: no thanks, I don't like easy money.
When they won, I smiled at the guy and proceeded to turn my back and find a spot in the front row to watch my brother.
I want to you know I toasted for the Lakers with all of you in my mind.
I hope you are proud of me because all I know is because of you.
I have taught you well young grasshopper
That's a fantastic story, Karina! Just out of curisoity, what was the ratio between Lakers and Celtics supporters? Just wondering since presumably all of them have adopted one team or the other and only a very few are probably from either LA or Boston.
Thanks for representin'!
@Karina
Oh, and I'm sitting here having some margaritas with Mrs Dusty and MDIL...and when they showed Rihanna on the screen, I criticized her haircut just to wind the two of them up. Sure enough, as if on cue, they both said *squeal* "That's such a cute haircut. We love it!" And of course as twins they aren't going to disagree with one another, so I just stared at my guacamole and changed the subject.
*sigh*
kuo needs to step up
Kuo is looking pretty damned good to me.
Kuo looked nice.
@ Karina What a great Laker story! Thanks for putting that sorry ass celtic fan in his place "sweetheart"
GAARP has bought the rest of the year with this game.
Time for red mushroom head's boytoy to come through.
Kemp, you suck.
@Mr LASF why grasshopper and not padawan?
@Dusty there were way much more Celtics followers and most everyone just adopted a team because I don't think there were any american people in that bar.
See what I mean for "girl pretty". Besides Rihanna is so beautiful and can get away with a lot.
MDIL is now taking Kemp's bobblehead down out of her window. He's just not producing consistently.
Hell, I'm even calling him Kemp these days. When is the last time I called him 'Bison'?
Oh, dear. Dear, dear, dear, dear, dear.
All I want from Kemp is SMART at-bats. Forget the power, just have a SMART AB, Matt.
Great plat Russ
@karen hahahahahaha, don't you hate when unknown men talk to you like "sweetheart, baby, honey et al"
This guy was dreadful, he called me "MI cielo" something like "my heaven". Urgh.
Glad that bunt didn't move the runner.
This game can't be easy, right?
Sigh.
Here comes Broxton.
^play
I'm so nervous I can hardly watch
FUCKING DAMMIT
Fish piss
Cursewords escape me.
Dammit Torre, what the F was up with that pitching decision? Either bring Brox in earlier or not at all!
Manny homered!
That's all I have.
Pedroia freaking MSB
The Dodgers lost and Anderson had a double and RBI.
If anyone had hope the Dodgers would get rid soon, it's not gonna happen.
Exactly, Karen!
MSB scorekeeper: pls add Pedroia to the official MSB list.
Maybe I should call GA the Garbinger of Doom, because whenever he does anything aside from suck we lose.
I said last year right after we were eliminated that our interleague schedule would probably prevent us from the playoffs.
We REALLY need to kick ass in the NL west to make up for this.
I nominate:
FGSGUSSPPGT
For God's Sake Get Us Some Starting Pitching Post Game Thread
V-Pad had a decent outing. Two wall-assisted homers really did their damage. But we're putting too much pressure on the two rookies and there's not much wiggle room unless Haeger can make some kind of a comeback. We need some help desperately, and I really don't want to wait for the deadline to get it.
I'm thinking of sending an e-mail to DodgerTalk espousing my opinion.
@Nic
And the sad, sad part of all that scheduling is that the team probably made the decision to have sexy match-ups (eg, revenue/gate) instead of a more balanced schedule that would promote a strong playoff run.
cc us, MLASF.
@get rid of him soon.
They'll get them tomorrow, you'll see.
@db. Very true. But who needs a world series anyways. We always get our asses kicked in the AL.
we need to find a loophole in the rulebook that allows an all NL West world series.
My rough draft for an e-mail:
I won't be the first to say that our pitching has been a problem. But right now the problem has reached its peak. There is literally no fifth starter, the Dodgers are pushing two rookies to the brink, Billingsley is out for who knows how long, and Clayton Kershaw has to bear the brunt of the tasks designated for the so-called ace. This team needs help desperately, and there's nobody within the organization to provide it. I implore Ned Colletti to do something before the trade deadline. The pitching staff is running on fumes, and it cannot last long. I don't expect Cliff Lee or Roy Oswalt or Dan Haren. I just want a pitcher who can go out every fifth day and contribute some quality starts. I can't see how the pitching staff could hold up much longer without it.
@Mr LASF I think that's a good email.
We could always pray Detroit makes it to the World Series.
I have hit send. Now we wait.
And by "we," I mean "I." And by "wait," I mean "take a nap."
P.S. MONASTERIOS IS THE FUTURE OF THIS ORGANIZATION.
DAMMIT I forgot to include that.
Mr. C will bring the good mojo to Febway tomorrow.
Plus, it's way more satisfying to win in front of Miller and Morgan.
Exactly, MLASF.
The sad part (well, I guess another sad part) is that we all could have written that exact email back in April. We saw this coming a mile away.
@Josh In Mr C we trust.
Paul wanted to go but he couldn't... that was lost good mojo.
@Karina
"lost good mojo"
Can that be bottled and saved for later? Is is it fleeting/of the moment kind of stuff?
Seriously.
JoshS Signal: Activate
Josh- We need you to bring back the Keep Calm avatar.
@Dusty Baker unfortunately, it's a kind of a moment thing. Can't be replicated, either.
This just in:
I hate the fucking Red Sox.
I hate all other Red Sox as well.
@Dusty: Done and done!
Ha. I said "Febway." Stupid iPhone.
Pedroia may have one the battle, but is prematurely losing his hair.
or "won" whatever.
fuck english.
Two parties down (survived the "dry" one by having my own) and one to go.
Kegs of Stone IPA and a band.
This could be good.
Very good.
I thought "Febway" was supposed to be some kind of joke that I didn't get.
Pedroia also to go through life being two-foot-five.
^has to
I am on a ROLL.
Watching Pod Rays vs Orioles, tied to 3.
I have had four texts that say "Dodgers are a bunch of N.L. bitches".
It might not have helped that I texted them before the game and said "Dodgers take this one because we are not a bunch of N.L. bitches"
I should have been at this game. I could have brought some mojo Karina. .Instead I am getting high on paint fumes (not intentionally).
Gonna pop open my first ever Lasorda wine here in a bit. Review to follow (big sigh as I look towards the east).
Did I say I hate when the Dodgers play the Red Sox?? My Boston hats are in timeout right now.
But the Os won, didn't they?
that comment was posted after runners on second and third with no outs.
i just assumed.
@Josh S
Sorry to say we bought last minute tix today, too, just for the hell of it. I brought all my mojo to the park today, and all I got was one lousy extra inning. Pretty cool day altogether, except for that one small detail...
I'll definitely post up some photos when I get home.
For the record, I'm OK with rhianna's hair, but that's just me. Everything else that is baseball related has been covered.
Well shit, I'm out of ideas, then.
Liquid heat in their jocks maybe?
Oh peeps. The third party was everything I expected and more.
I hate to disrespect the Old Man's baseball team, because I actually don't mind them and I respect his legacy...but having said that:
Buck Foston
Those whiny-ass bitches need to STFU. You got two WS rings, alright? Aren't you happy now?
I want to win, but I'll take a Manny HR off the Green Monster any day. Manny FTW!
Just got back from a hipster joint in Studio City. Good lord did I enjoy some Racer 5 IPA.
Keepin it real. Tommy's Montepulciano had a great nose but I expect my Italians to put hair on my chest. Maybe the spicy red sauce I had it with overwhelmed it. Probably a bad pairing on my part with a wine from Abruzzo. That is practically Austria to me. Still a good wine and Anything with tommy on it has some value to me.
Good nose but falls short on balance. I would rename it flat breezy. Tomorrow the chianti Classico with padre should be different.
Now this Glenlivet Nadurra I am finishing off with is nasty Kuo like stuff.
Boston's fans are full of themselves. Still down 3-0 to the Yankees is a pretty wicked story. That being said our boys need to win a ring soon. Two decades gone by is too long.
