Game 64 Thread: June 15 @ Reds, 4p

Hiroki Kuroda (5-4, 3.30) vs. Aaron Harang (5-5, 5.17).

COMMENTS: Dodgers swept by Angels, Lakers lacquered by the Celtics...not a great weekend for the L.A. sports fan. But there's a ray of hope for the once-again-second-place Dodgers as they head to Cincinnati: They traditionally play the Reds well, going 5-1 against them last year.

But this is an improving Reds team, one in first place, in fact. For that, they can point to the help they got from the Dodgers' recent sweep of the Cards. So how about some payback, Cincinnati? L.A. sports fans could use it.

(from Sax): We'll have a separate thread for the Lakers game this evening, so FOCUS on getting us back on track at the Great American Ballpark. We're only a half-game back here, but now we're tied with the Giants for second place! Let's go, Blue!

Since this is another Eric Collins game, I revisited my Collins Curse spreadsheet. Looking closer at 2009, there was no evidence to support a curse, other than the Dodgers lost at least one game in every series he called. His series record last year was a respectable 8-4-1.

This year, however, his series record is 0-6.

He will not be calling any of the Boston games.

Mr. Customer said...

No worries, VPad will be back in time to take Chad's place in the rotation.

amiright, guys?

Guys?

Josh S. said...

VPad's already back, apparently, and is starting on Saturday.

Josh S. said...

I have this sinking feeling that we're going to finish the Yankees series in third or fourth. Thankfully, the beginning and end of July is "feast on the NL West" time again. The rest of July is made up of teams the Dodgers will be getting a second look at (FLA, NYM, CHC, STL).

Mr. Customer said...

Joking aside, we'll have to see if Padilla was hurt or just terrible sooner or later. Might as well be now.

Josh S. said...

While I'm on the topic of the schedule: What the hell with the 3-game homestand? (Yankees)

sweet, we're up 1-0!

My interest in the Lakers is entirely dependent on not finding other time-wasting activities to participate in.

How come Manny couldn't score from first on a double?

I like our at-bats though. We seem more patient tonight. Let see how long it lasts

something needs to be done about Collins, this is horrible.

Andre must have thought there were runners in scoring position.

Fred's Brim said...

@Nic: Mute button or SAP button?

Good news andre is still in voting to start allstar game.

Bad news he doesnt really look like an allstar at the moment.

Mr. LA Sports Fan said...

Well, if it means anything, we're closer to getting the nine outs needed to make this game official.

Fred's Brim said...

yikes it'll be raining by the time they get back from commercial

Mr. LA Sports Fan said...

According to Weather.com, there's a brief interlude between the current system and a much, much larger one.

Fred's Brim said...

Fred's Brim said...

NicJ said...

Mr. LA Sports Fan said...

Kuroda wants this game to be official, and the Reds don't mind helping him out.

Mr. LA Sports Fan said...

KKKKKKKuroda

Fred's Brim said...

Kuroda want's out of there! His last experience with a tornado is probably the last time Rodan attacked Japan. When was that? 88 or 89?

Fred's Brim said...

How many Raffys can we get in the game at a time?

Fred's Brim said...

what is that pitch? some kind of forkball?

Fred's Brim said...

Ricky played for Batavia in the NY Penn League after his junior season at Texas. He quit a few games into the season to go back to Autin to work out before his Heisman season. Either that or he couldnt get any good kush in Batavia

Mr. LA Sports Fan said...

He still sucks in the clutch.

NicJ said...

Steve Sax said...

is this game going to resume? I hope so. I can't bear to see us suckered out of a three-run lead (and scoring threat in the fifth).

Poor Hiroki.

Mr. Customer said...

I'm still trying to piece together if Karina's dream about not being able to get the Lakers score somehow foreshadowed this rain delay.

Fred's Brim said...

sheesh - Padres are already up 4-0 on a Richie Cunningham grand slam

Josh S. said...

MSTI said Reds radio is saying 11pm Eastern restart.

Josh S. said...

Angels getting curb stomped by the Brewers again. Fun.

Mr. LA Sports Fan said...

Hey, the game has started!

Josh S. said...

I think there was a bigger crowd watching this game at my in=laws' place a moment ago than there is in Great American Ballpark.

Josh S. said...

Hooray for bad baserunning!

Paul said...

Paul said...

Thank you!! Was that so hard??? Probably.

Mr. Customer said...

Official!

Paul said...

Let Rain in!!!

Mr. LA Sports Fan said...

It's official. Now let the rain come in.

Paul said...

The Dooche Factor is always much higher at basketball games.

The laker fans are cheering they must have announced the Dodger score.

Paul said...

Settlement not reached + additional dependent on the way = Boston trip in jeopardy ( cousins' joy for taking my tix and cheering for the sox)/Shitburgers.

Mr. Customer said...

That blows, Paul!

Paul said...

Tron!!! You have 20 jobs. Middle relief set up man mop up duty. Extra inning pitcher. Back up closer. Manny's hair stylist ect.

Paul said...

I know. mr c. I blame lawyers and their abuse of process ( punches self).

Paul said...

So do beers get marked down when the crowd is of 20?

Mr. Customer said...

Hey, I remember that guy!

Paul said...

Mannnny!!!

Mr. LA Sports Fan said...

Be sure to save some of that for Boston, Manny.

Josh S. said...

Just call it.

NicJ said...

now we gotta play the full inning so manny's HR doesnt get taken away

rbnlaw TIME! said...

If Manny uses this series to get his swagger back, I'm OK with it.

rbnlaw TIME! said...

Hey, that Laker game was a squeaker, eh?

Josh S. said...

What the hell is "station to station baseball?"

karen said...

The beard delivers

Mr. LA Sports Fan said...

Tron is batting. Just, Tron is batting.

Mr. LA Sports Fan said...

Owings is 3-1 to Tron.

Mr. LA Sports Fan said...

And now he walks him. Seriously, when the hell is Owings going to be converted to a fielder?

rbnlaw TIME! said...

@Josh:
Baseball played the David Bowie way.

karen said...

Tron with the RBI

Mr. Customer said...

Jaysus, just call it already!

Mr. LA Sports Fan said...

Raffy's 5-for-5.

rbnlaw TIME! said...

Lots of runs tonight means not enough the next day.

Just sayin'.

karina said...

So it seems the Dodgers use game as batting practice when I'm not watching.

@Mr C I'm pretty sure rain delay was my fault :(

@Paul I'm crossing fingers so you can make it to Boston

@Rbnlaw how was your daughter's volleyball game?

NicJ said...

@josh, is that a serious question about station to station baseball?

sarcasm is hard to read in text.

Josh S. said...

Reed Johnson turned his epic beard into an epic handlebar mustache worthy of the Village People's Leather Man.

Josh S. said...

Nic, to be honest, it's a term I've never really heard before, and Collins often tries to shoehorn in goofy terms for ordinary events, so I was confused.

NicJ said...

oh, station to station means just taking a base at a time.

It usually refers to a slow team.

NicJ said...

the dodgers are for the most part a station to station team.

the angels are on the opposite end of the spectrum, always trying to take an extra bag, "first to third"

Mr. LA Sports Fan said...

I can't envision Tron going the entire season without going on the DL at some point.

Josh S. said...

OK, so Collins was using the term correctly, but applying the wrong level of enthusiasm to the call (Surprise, surprise.).

"LONEY GOES TO THIRD! STATION-TO-STATION BASEBALL!!"

NicJ said...

@Josh, yeah basically. To be fair im sure its a lot more exciting in softball.

(now THAT was sarcasm)

Neeebs said...

Whoot.

Josh S. said...

DOUBLONEY!

NicJ said...

what the hell is up with Reed's facial hair?
Getting ready for the San Francisco road trip?

NicJ said...

beatdowns are fun and all, but if they keep working walks someone is bound to get hit in the ribs.

Josh S. said...

He's OK so far, but watch Sherill blow the shutout.

NicJ said...

raffy, 5-6 what a bum.

Mr. LA Sports Fan said...

Bench that bastard. Carroll would've gone 6-for-6.

Mr. Customer said...

Too bad, Raffy. Still a helluva night.

rbnlaw TIME! said...

@karina:
They went out in the first elimination game of the tournament (much like the U.S. in soccer usually). Good run though for not having practiced in 4 weeks, but that's another issue.

Paul said...

Corky has a stache that puts Jamey Carroll's to shame.

Mr. Customer said...

Hey, a win!

NicJ said...

is there a mustache thing going on with the players? like 5 guys have them.

karina said...

I'm pretty sure there's more of that defense for tomorrow.Besides the Lakers won, so that's great mojo for LA teams. Go Blue!

Josh S. said...

Things that have recently gone missing from SoSG:

-Post-Game Threads
-Dusty Baker

Mr. Customer said...

Dusty's on sabbatical until the nationalistic tendencies die down, I believe. PGTs have no such quibble, as far as I know.

Steve Sax said...

PGT finally up. Man, we gotta get us another intern.

Steve Sax said...

BTW Josh S, you're totally right on the PGTs going MIA. Sorry about that! We'll hope to get better about this tomorrow...

Mr. LA Sports Fan said...

Dusty didn't even take a stab at the puzzle yesterday.
