Game 107 Thread: Aug 4 vs. Brewers, 7p

Hiroki Kuroda (3-5, 4.44) vs. Yovani Gallardo (10-7, 3.13).

COMMENTS: Gentlemen, start your engines! Today's race pits a reliable Japanese import against a flashy exotic supercar. The Japanese import recently spent two months in the shop and has needed a few tune-ups since getting back on the road, but its mechanics are improving. The flashy exotic supercar is coming off a winning race, although it was upset by a late-model American upstart before that.

Expected outcome:

(Today is Game 8 of 100SS. The finish line is in sight!)

I don't think I can do anything in the thread today. I'm too shocked from the emergence of Pedro.

Steve Sax said...

For those of you willing to partake during tonight's Game Thread, Orel and I are interested in a virtual drinking game...any of you want to suggest some rules for tonight's matchup?

Alejandro Peña said...

How about one beer an inning?

Josh S. said...

Some suggestions (all Vin-related):

Take a drink when...
...Vin talks about Ken Macha's frustrations.
...Vin says "dazzling play".
...Vin explains the meaning of someone's name.

Drink the remains of your glass if someone hits a GIDP. Have another drink if someone foresaw that on the Game Thread (you could get very wasted).

Josh S. said...

If you're following on the radio, drink when Steiner and Monday get the giggles.

If your liver can take it.

Loney Fan said...

Whenever Vin says "Deuces Wild" you have to finish your drink.

Mr. LA Sports Fan said...

Take a drink anyone mentions Prince Fielder's weight

Steve Sax said...

Oh yeah, and I forgot to ask: who is drinking with us tonight?

Hong Like a Chih Kuo said...

Drink 4 beers if Manny makes a spectacular defensive play.

Take a shot of James(on) when Loney GIDP. This event shall be referred to as a "Jameson".

karina said...

Does everybody have to drink the same?

Josh S. said...

I've got a Heineken or two in the fridge I can work on, but nothing that will do any real damage.

Josh S. said...

Furcal, SS
Ethier, RF
Manny, LF
Blake, 3B
Loney, 1B
Kemp, CF
Martin, C
Hudson, 2B
Kuroda, P

Ever hit the Dodgers get without scoring a run, you do a shot of whiskey.

Neeebs said...

Drinking and commenting on blog sites can be risky and dangerous to your peers.

Hong Like a Chih Kuo said...

Ken, you must be Irish.

Brandon said...

Beer and Dodgers. Throw in some BBQ and you've hit the trifecta.

Steve Sax said...

@Neeebs, but think about how fun 100SS will be tonight

Alejandro Peña said...

I bet Kuroda will get a win tonight.

Rockies up 4-0 on the Phillies (Moyer is not having a good night)

Steve Sax said...

J-Roll homers with one on. 4-2 Rockies, bottom six.

Steve Sax said...

Rockies now up 8-3 on the Phils, bottom 6

Giants are already up 2-0 on the 'stros, top 3

Snakes putting a beatdown on the Pirates, 6-0, bottom 7

And that's your out-of-town scoreboard

Steve Sax said...

whoops, now 4-0 Giants, mid-3. Come on, Astros!

Nic j said...

Come on the astros are supposed to own the nl west. The giants got off easy when oswalt was scratched.

Ken said...

I once saw a guy buy 7 beers and a margarita at Dodger Stadium, costed him like 90 dollars.

Steve Sax said...

Torre doesn't buy into the late- arrival/ jetlag bullshit excuse, either

Steve Sax said...

VIP tickets baby!

Tapatillo!

Steve Sax said...

Yikes, my mattress has dust mites?

Ken said...

isnt it tapatio?

and yes your sweat and dust mites make you mattress weight double its original weight.

no wonder it is so hard to flip mattresses sometimes.

you're killing me larry.

karina said...

Are we drinking or not?

Erin said...

I guess I'm the only one at the stadium tonight. I didn't bring enough cash to participate in any drinking game at these prices.

Erin said...

According to the scoreboard version of Ethier's autograph, he dots the "e" at the end of his first name. I didn't notice that oddity when he signed Christine's glove last season.

Mr. Customer said...

Andre signs his autographs with diacritical marks? After the first thousand, I think I'd give up.

Mr. Customer said...

@Sax

I'm raiding the beer fridge now, so I might as well participate in the festivities.

Josh S. said...

My lineup is false. Hudson scratched with an upset stomach. Castro in.

Josh S. said...

"Big Price Fielder, ready to block out the sun..."

I think Vin's playing the drinking game with us!

Josh S. said...

"Prince". My typo, Vin didn't say it wrong.

Josh S. said...

Nice to have the game in HD.

Andre!

Josh S. said...

Take a drink every time I talk to myself in this thread.

Josh S. said...

Are the dreads cut or tied?

I Alivandi said...

How cool that Junior Seau is the ball boy? Somewhat of a celeb Vinny? Only the best linebacker of his generation.

Surprised Junior isn't a Padre fan. Is Russ wearing another number tonight?

Nic j said...

Manny is starting to square up on the ball better. I think he is coming out of it.

I Alivandi said...

Say Ow Yovanni.

Josh S. said...

Facial hair double! 2-0!

Erin said...

I just noticed my jeans are completely ripped open right under my back right pocket. I don't know when it happened, so I've probably been walking around the stadium with my ass hanging out.

Mr. Customer said...

Things are starting off better tonight.

I Alivandi said...

Nic - I agree. He murdered that foul ball and just missed a homer on the ball that got Raffy to third.

I Alivandi said...

Yovanni has some nasty movement. That heater that Loney missed moved like a circle change.

BISON MODE.

Mr. Customer said...

Erin,

I had that happen at a game earlier this year. I only discovered after I got home. Fortunately, all the parts that can get you arrested stayed covered.

karina said...

These runs in the first inning have to be celebrated with a toast!

I Alivandi said...

Russ hammered that one. Braun would been better off playing the carom. Good thing for him he has Cameron backing him up.

Nic j said...

Looks like the boys are making a statement tonight. Good to see.

Erin said...

It's hard to tell how bad the rip is right now, since feeling my own ass might get me a few strange looks. Luckily, right before I left the house I remembered to grab a jacket, so I can tie it around my waist. But I couldn't stand up to cheer during that inning because I haven't figured out the best way to execute the jacket-tying maneuver.

karina said...

Erin, do you have any tape?

I Alivandi said...

Kuroda-san has his nasty hat on tonight.

karina said...

Erin, make a simple bow, with the remainings of the sides, tuck them into your waist, foolproof!

I Alivandi said...

Cat bordered in interference there

Erin said...

No tape. And I can tie it easily around my waist, but I've never tried to do it from a seated position before. And of course the rows behind me were empty until two minutes ago, when a whole family sat down for their first-ever game at Dodger Stadium. They might get a game and a show.

I Alivandi said...

Thinking back, it was pretty amazing to be at Kuroda's near perfect game

Mr. Customer said...

Jacket between your back and the seat -> Lift by the arms next time you have an excuse to stand up -> Tie off and done.

Really, I'm just looking to keep the ass talk going. (I keed)

I Alivandi said...

Manny is playing serious defense this year.

Nic j said...

Manny bringing the d

Josh S. said...

"Drink 4 beers if Manny makes a spectacular defensive play."

I think that counts.

Mr. Customer said...

I know he was up last inning, but when did Counsell abandon the exaggerated bating stance. It doesn't seem like it's as uncomfortable looking as it used to be.

I Alivandi said...

Kuroda is nasty, but the ump has a very tight zone. Kind of like a late 90s AL zone

Josh S. said...

He's getting too old to hold that stance.

That's not a joke. I'm pretty sure I heard our radio guys mention during the last series.

karina said...

Love when you guys get very descriptive.

Ken said...

anyone going to the game tomorrow?
i will be in infield reserve if anyone wants to say hi.

Erin said...

Mission accomplished.

Josh S. said...

Imagine the people who only hear about the Dodger sleepover on TV. Then they get to the website and are hit with the cost. Yikes.

karina said...

Good, Erin!

As a suggestion to the writers of this site, why not award people who nail hundreds extra points if they are at Dodger Stadium?. It's more difficult to pay attention to the thread, right?

Josh S. said...

Yovani has settled down. Vin was generous saying Ethier fouled off that first pitch.

Nic j said...

We are lucky we scored those runs while we did. Gallardo appears to have locked down.

Ken said...

there is no such thing as lockdown!

bills locked down the cards last week

kershaw locked down the brewers last night for 3 innings before, you know...

Ken said...

kuroda looks like he did when he pitched against the white sox

very dirty dirty breaking stuff

Nic j said...

Manny is getting closer. He is seeing the ball way better.

Steve Sax said...

Orel and I are finally sitting down watching the game. End of three.

I'm on beer #1.

Orel is also on beer #1.

I Alivandi said...

Interesting stat by Vin about when Beard gets an RBI. He is still choking up, and it seems to be helping.

Loney isn't picking up Gallardo well at all.

karina said...

Drinking game started?

Steve Sax said...

come on, settle down kuroda

Ken said...

the beard is good

i wished i could grow one

Nic j said...

Haha I love castros mariachi intro music.

I Alivandi said...

Yeah, that call was horse shit

I Alivandi said...

Ok. I now have that much more respect for Russell Martin. He has learned Japanese phrases to talk to Kuroda (and probably Saito when he was here). Yet another reason he deserves another Gold Glove.

Paul said...

Full moon! Howllllllllll! Too bad Wolf is not pitching.

Ken said...

wow stuck in the padding

Orel said...

Epale, y'all! Unfortunately I can't log on to Sax's wireless, but rest assured I'm drinking. Not quite a beer per inning, but I'm doing my best. Don't judge me!

Orel said...

Streaker?

Orel said...

How much $$$ did he have to spend to get drunk on DS beer?

Steve Sax said...

Erin, tell me that isn't you running on the field, ripped jeans and all.

Paul said...

Maybe the green creature is on the field

Nic j said...

Hiro is killin me right now.

Steve Sax said...

Brewers get on the board here.

Orel is on beer #2. sax is on #3.

Kuroda looks like he could use one himself, 4-2 dodgers.

Steve Sax said...

Dammit Hiroki, quit breaking their bats and get an out?

I Alivandi said...

Wow. Bad luck plays. Hiro is sawing them off and they are getting hits. Ethier did a good job backing up Kemp on the diving try.

Steve Sax said...

Hiroki had better settle here

Orel said...

Posting from my iPhone. What the hell is going on???

Steve Sax said...

Orel is passing on this 100SS

Steve Sax said...

Ha! NO POINTS

I Alivandi said...

Steve Sax said...

I will finish my beer if Kuroda can get out of this inning without any more runs

I Alivandi said...

101

Steve Sax said...

I wonder if Catalonatto is Catalan

Steve Sax said...

I alivandi, you really should be losing points here but okay

Nic j said...

I hope I'm wrong but gallardo doesn't look like he is going to give up anymore runs.

Steve Sax said...

Yoooooooooo vani, wooooah,

Yooooo vani, woah oh oh oh

Orel said...

I'm driving to Dodger Stadium to look at Erin's ripped jeans.

Steve Sax said...

1-4-3

Steve Sax said...

yeah, he's slumping.

I Alivandi said...

That was a thing of beauty.

Steve Sax said...

Orel, you gotta finish that damn beer you're nursing.

EVERYONE DRINK!!!

Nic j said...

I knew manny was coming out of it.

I Alivandi said...

Sax - Do I get points for mentioning that Frank played for Italy in the WBC?

Ken said...

who ordered a bomb?

I Alivandi said...

Here is the advice Bill Castro gave.

"Yovanni: don't hang anymore breaking balls."

I Alivandi said...

Geoffrey is completely lost with Yovanni. He is obviously not picking the ball up out of his hand.

BTW, Jackie Johnson is pretty good looking.

Steve Sax said...

5-3 Dodgers, through five innings.

I've had three beers, and am about to open #4.

Orel is on #2. He's nursing it.

Orel said...

Manny HR! Erin's ripped jeans are clearly a good-luck charm.

Steve Sax said...

Alivandi, Orel and I are sitting here saying the same thing about Jackie Johnson.

Steve Sax said...

Kuroda is pitching to kurod-ed bats

Orel said...

JJ! Am I talking about Hardy or Jackie Johnson?

I Alivandi said...

Kuroda was absolutely disgusted after he jammed another guy only to get another flare. AFAIK, Kendall was even using an ash, not maple, bat.

Steve Sax said...

Lopez with his third K of the night

Sax with his fourth beer, in progress

Orel with his second, in early progress

Steve Sax said...

The rat
The rat
The rat

I Alivandi said...

Seriously, what an awful strike zone.

Orel said...

Can we combine two of my favorite subjects? Ripped jeans and Jackie Johnson?

I Alivandi said...

Braun looks like he is working out with a Persian Club in the on deck circle

I Alivandi said...

Hopefully Jackie Johnson doesn't marry a quad A ball player like Jillian Barbarie did.

Nic j said...

6 scary, but good innings from kuroda an he is in line for the win.

Mr. LA Sports Fan said...

We need a separate thread just for Jackie Johnson comments

Ken said...

i'm not a big lover of jackie johnson

I Alivandi said...

That shot of Dodger Stadium is as good looking as Jackie Johnson.

karina said...

Why do you like ripped jeans?

By the way, my Gameday is slower than ever, i'm like an inning behind you.

Mr. LA Sports Fan said...

Manny's swing on that homer was almost as good-looking as Jackie Johnson.

I can play this game.

I Alivandi said...

Kemp's eye has gotten so much better.

Ken said...

karina where do u live?

not in LA?

I Alivandi said...

Just give Russ the green light here.

Steve Sax said...

Kemp gets to second base...unfortunately not with Jackie Johnson

Mr. LA Sports Fan said...

Martin walks - clever Jackie Johnson reference.

Steve Sax said...

@ken: If you want Karina, you'll have to fight all of us Sons first.

I Alivandi said...

MARRRRRRRIACHI!

Steve Sax said...

Juan would rather be Castro-ated rather than stand up Jackie Johnson

Orel said...

Two on, no out! Jackie Johnson would approve.

Mr. LA Sports Fan said...

Castro gets a beauty of a bunt, but it's beauty cannot rival that of Jackie Johnson

Steve Sax said...

Juan with a little dribbler...

Okay, I can't make a Jackie Johnson comment on that.

Or maybe I just did!!!

Ken said...

@ saxy boy

i dun want karina

i think after reading all of ur messages, i want jackie johnson

Steve Sax said...

Two-run hit by Loretta?

Mr. LA Sports Fan said...

Loretta drives in two!

Steve Sax said...

"What club ISN'T Mark Loretta's old club?"--Orel, still working on his second beer

Orel said...

@Karina "Why do you like ripped jeans?"

Oh Karina. So much to learn.

I Alivandi said...

Beautiful job hitting to the defense Loretta. I guess they thought he couldn't still get around on a pitch.

That gap was bigger than Jackie Johnson's...weather baloons.

Steve Sax said...

Ken, you've gotta get you some channel 9 kcal action. you're missing out.

Steve Sax said...

I Aliveda, if not for the misspelling, it would have been a 10

...like Jackie Johnson

Ken said...

i am!
i'm doing some dutch door action, watching the game and looking around here

Mr. LA Sports Fan said...

Gallardo's struggling more than Jackie Johnson trying to put on a shirt.

Steve Sax said...

Macha with the hook!

Boobs.

I Alivandi said...

Poor Yovanni. He wasn't bad, the Dodgers were just hitting beautifully. Sort of like Jackie Johnson.

Mr. LA Sports Fan said...

The Brewers have been hitting on Kuroda, but just like the guys who hit on Jackie Johnson, they are unsuccessful.

Mr. LA Sports Fan said...

Bases juiced for Manny. A perfect situation.

I'm not even gonna go there with a Jackie Johnson reference.

karina said...

@Sax: awwwwwwwwwwww

@Orel: i won't make further questions.

Mr. LA Sports Fan said...

Manny-double!

Neeebs said...

Nic j said...

Manny: I'm baaaaaacccck!

Mr. LA Sports Fan said...

Slump officialy busted

Ken said...

Hit the presses!

the slump is over!!!

wow this is beautiful

like jackie johnson

karina said...

I had to search for Jackie Johnson, you got me lost!

I Alivandi said...

Ethier's swing is as good looking as Jackie Johnson.

Let's see Manny get closer to Lou right now.

Ken said...

just look at the link to the pic of jackie johnson

Ken said...

watching this game is as fun as watching jackie johnson

I Alivandi said...

DeFelice owns righties. Manny did well to line that shot. There was an interesting piece on Fangraphs on him.

Mr. LA Sports Fan said...

Bases filled, just like Jackie Johnson's shirt

Neeebs said...

So what was the verdict on the drinking game?

Ken said...

haha filled like her shirt
thats the best one so far!

Steve Sax said...

Six-run lead! Just like...never mind.

Ken said...

Hey karina defend Loney again

Steve Sax said...

Geez, Loney, at least make a swing dammit

I don't know what's going on, but the Dodgers have scored 4 runs this inning!

@Ken: saw the picture of a very beautiful girl but still didn't know who she was. Silly me, she's been mentioned before in here

Mr. LA Sports Fan said...

Loney couldn't come through, unlike Jackie Johnson cleavage shots.

Mr. LA Sports Fan said...

That was dumber than not watching KCAL 9 weather reports.

fanerman said...

Bison!!

I Alivandi said...

Wow. Kemp was pissed because he knew he should have murdered that pitch and he still got a hit out of it.

Orel said...

Eight-run lead. I could get used to this.

Orel said...

Unfortunately, we can't retroactively apply some of these runs to last night's game.

Mr. LA Sports Fan said...
