And it looks like Vegas has started taking bets for the last third of the puzzle season. Here are the current odds:

Favorites:

  • UBragg (3 to 1) - The overall favorite, but with one prize under his belt, will he grow complacent?
  • BWrightson (9 to 2) - Can he can catch UBragg before the rolling 7-puzzle methodology succubus mistress catches him?

Legitimate Contenders:

  • Mr Customer (6 to 1) - Previous champ suddenly finds a lot more worthy competition surrounding him.
  • Fanerman (8 to 1) - Experts agree: if he would quit his job, Fanerman could come home with the puzzle title.
  • Josh S (8 to 1) - And after she catches BWrightson, she's coming for you, Josh S.
  • QuadSevens (10 to 1) - While he is outshining archrivals Loney Fan and Jose, Quad has to prove he can keep up with the new generation of puzzlers. Must also work on his word-puzzle skills.
  • J Steve (10 to 1) - Ranking-wise, he seems to hang around the 5-to-10 range. Pretty long odds to jump to the top.
  • Drewdez (25 to 2) - If UBragg is Kobe and BWrightson is LeBron, then is Drewdez Derrick Rose? It's exciting to think of the possibilities if everything falls into place.
  • Jose (13 to 1) - Former champ's bugaboo seems to be motivation.

Longshots...but not totally impossible:

  • Keven C (16 to 1) - Clearly has potential, but doesn't always show up.
  • Berkowit28 (33 to 2) - Nobody questions his motivation, but lately he's been inconsistent.

True Longshots:

  • Wicks (30 to 1)
  • Loney Fan (36 to 1)
  • Erin (36 to 1)
  • MLASF (36 to 1)
  • LL Cool L (36 to 1)
  • Fred's Brim (36 to 1)
  • Neeebs (60 to 1)
  • Karina (60 to 1)
  • M.S.T.I. (60 to 1)
  • DunkHawk (60 to 1)
  • The Field (24 to 1)

So there you have it. Who's your money on?

Next puzzle 7am Thursday August 13!

I like Q7's because I'm a sucker for the longshot.

If I bet $2 on myself, I get $72 back!

Don't bet on yourself, Mr. LASF. You might not get into the Puzzle Hall of Fame.

If I have this Rolling 7-Puzzle Mistress Succubus thing figured out right, she should be stealing about 50 points from me next puzzle. Looks like I have to go on a tear just to stay competitive. Good thing summers are slow at work.

Did the odds on me drop? I could have sworn I saw 9 to 1 the first time I looked at this page.

That's funny. My mother-in-law or my boss might make the same comment about me.

Quad - the displayed odds are real-time and directly connected to the Bellagio's central systems.

There must have been a lot of action recently placed against you. Have you recently been injured or something?

Loney Fan said...

Hahahaha, you have played right into my plan. Bombing the last two months of puzzles has allowed my odds to rise. Now I can bet on myself, dominate the rest of the puzzles, and rake in the cash!!!

The only injury that Bellagio may have heard about is a bug bite on the back of my right index finger. It itches like crazy, but I don't think it will be a distraction.

Quick PCS question: I read a while back that there will be 18 off-day puzzles, but I count 19 off-days. Did you decide on 18 to make it a nice round three rounds of 6? If so, anything planned for the final off-day on October 1st?

BWrightson said...

Today is the first time I've been referred to as the LeBron of anything, and have I got some extra bounce in my step! TPS reports seem easier. The flowers seem more colorful and fragrant. My Dodger hat fits a little better.

And the best money is on me!

Hahaha. Seriously, the off-day puzzles could be my third favorite thing about this baseball season, right after the "best record in baseball" and BobbleSlam.

Josh S - Thanks for the heads-up. We originally stopped at 18 because nobody on the SoSG staff can count past 18 with any degree of confidence.

But due to your comment we have independently verified through an outside counting expert that the additional off-day after the 18th one indeed results in 19 total off-days.

So one of two things will happen, to be decided before the next puzzle on August 13:

1) We will ignore one of the remaining off-days and stick with 18 puzzles.
2) We will add a 19th puzzle on Oct 1, but the succubus will become a rolling 8-puzzle mistress so the previous grand slam still counts.

We'll let you know before the next puzzle.
