Ain't Missed Avian

If you thought the Wrigley Field birds were bad, at least they didn't interfere with play. Check out what happened yesterday at Progressive Field in Cleveland:

From the AP recap of the game at

Coco Crisp thought he still had a chance to get to Shin-Soo Choo's bouncing base hit. A bird beat him to it.

The ball flattened a low-flying gull in the 10th inning and rolled past Kansas City's center fielder and Mark DeRosa scored from second base without a throw to give the Cleveland Indians a 4-3 win over the Royals on Thursday night. [...]

The stunned bird flopped around for a few seconds before finally flying off.

The account of the game paints a sadder picture of the bird's fate (although it also lays claim to the superior headline of "Fly-off winner"):

Minutes after the triumphant Indians cleared the field, the bird was struggling to fly.

The Indians should give that bird a Most Valuable Pigeon award. Then the bird could say, "Thanks, but I'm a seagull." And the Indians could say, "Yeah, but that would ruin the gag." And the bird could say, "Whatever," and walk-off.

( also has video of the play.)

I think it was just a seeing eye seagull to center.
