It's Time for Donnie Baseball (Take Two)

Don Mattingly will be removed from his carbon-freeze stasis and will replace Mike Easler as hitting coach at the All-Star Break.

LOS ANGELES -- The Dodgers have decided to replace hitting coach Mike Easler with Don Mattingly at the All-Star Break, according to a report in the Los Angeles Times.

Mattingly originally was hired by manager Joe Torre to be the Dodgers' hitting coach after he lost the competition to replace Torre as Yankees manager to Joe Girardi.

But Mattingly soon backed out of the position because of family issues and accepted a reduced role as a special hitting instructor who spent time with the club in Spring Training and on occasional Midwest trips. Mattingly was on Torre's coaching staff with the Yankees.

Easler is the Dodgers' eighth hitting coach in the last 10 seasons.

Well, it's not like we didn't see that coming. (Hence today's graph, right, EK?)

How bad will it make Easler look if the Dodgers suddenly start hitting? Then again, that's a chance I'm willing to take.

If Mattingly can make them hit as exuberant as Han Solo was, welcome!
