Game 92 Post-Game Thread: The Falken-Borg Ultimatum

Dear Joe Torre:

Please, do not use Brian Falkenborg, owner of a 7.94 ERA and catalyst for disaster in two of his last three appearances, again. Unless we're down by 35 runs. Otherwise, don't use him.

And if you insist on having Falkenborg pitch to 2008 All-Star starting SS Hanley Ramirez, who already had four hits that game, in the 11th inning with two out and no one on, please don't have Falkenborg groove him a fastball.

Sincerely,

SoSG Steve Sax

Great game last night, too bad the Dodgers couldn't pull it out in extras though. Just wanted to share an interesting stat that was flashed on the big screen for James Loney.

"He has gone 9 consecutive games without grounding into a double play."

Last night would make 10 in a row now.

Loney is still second in the NL for GIDP (18; behind Derrek Lee's 19, and right in front of Adrian Gonzalez' 17).

The stat is correct; Loney has not grounded into a DP in July, stretching 10 games. His last GIDP was June 30 vs. Houston; this woudl mean he had 18 GIDPs in 82 games, averaging out to a pace of one DP every 4.5 games.

Thanks, Q7!

You're welcome Sax. I just thought that stat stood out among the other stats that highlighted past performances. Maybe they'll start mentioning stats like the number of times a player has struck out in the past week, how long its been since a player hit a HR, or a players current hitless streak. I guess what I'm trying to say is, it's kind of a backhanded compliment that probably didn't help Loney when he's coming to the plate.
