Game 99 Thread: July 21st @ Rockies, 6:05p

Eric Stults (2-2, 2.67) vs. Kip Wells (1-1, 2.29).

COMMENTS: "Don't call it a comeback, I've been here for years"...ok, well it was a GREAT comeback led by the kids who have not really been there for years, but I had to put some old school '90s rap into the blog. I'm still overjoyed by the comeback last night, especially since four of those runs came in the ninth inning with TWO OUTS. Hopefully the Dodgers can use this comeback as motivation and show themselves that they can win no matter the odds. Now let's go do what Mama said, knock out the Rockies. Go Blue!

Another excellent use of YouTube, AC! Hey, are you gonna do tomorrow and Wednesday's GTs also?

Alex Cora said...

Thought you had those, but if need be, i can do them...but I am running out of YouTube songs...

Eric Karros said...

No worries AC, I got 'em. Just wanted to make sure we don't double up.

Hey, you can never have too many embedded music videos. Please, EK, try to keep away from the Debbie Gibson, okay? (Despite the recent offensive surge from our Electric Youth.)

I'll try to log on and follow the game later--I'm still buzzing after yesterday's key comeback victory! (Whoops, I just called it a comeback.)

With the regulars getting the start in yesterdays day game, do you think we see Pablo get a start after the continuous struggles from Jeff Kant?

Orel said...

The answer is: no.

Kemp, RF
Ethier, LF
Martin, C
Kent, 2B
Loney, 1B
Jones, CF
LaRoche, 3B
Berroa, SS
Stults, P

Nomar and DeWitt get a rest, though.

Dusto_Magnifico said...

Dewitt should get a rest on a flight back to AAA.

Erin said...

Man, lucky for Kip Wells that nothing cures what ails a starting pitcher like facing Andruw Jones.

Orel said...

Kemp doubles, Ethier doubles, Martin singles, Kent singles, Loney singles. 3-0 Dodgers.

Oh, and Jones K's.

Orel said...

Hi Erin. What concerns me is that Jones is missing soft stuff like it's high heat or something.

Orel said...

Vin just said LaRoche will be starting all three games in CO.

Erin said...

Hi Orel.

Yeah, I read that about LaRoche earlier. Vin probably isn't wrong when he says it's to showcase LaRoche. I do not like the sound of that.

And I don't think Jones swung at one strike in that whole at-bat. Given the problems Kip Wells has had so far, wouldn't it have been better to make him actually throw a strike before you swing?

Erin said...

The Rockies have to know something is wrong when Berroa starts driving in runs.

Orel said...

LaRoche walks to Rancho Ardiendo! Berroa singles in his first two RBIs of the season! 5-0 Dodgers!

But this is Coors Field....

Erin said...

Yep, this is Coors Field, so I'd sure like to see a binary inning now.

Orel said...

Let's face it, if Ned is going to trade for a "proven" SS, LaRoche is gone. But at least it won't be Kemp. DeWitt has played his way into Torre's heart.

Rockies' second baseman helping our cause. 6-0 Dodgers.

Orel said...

You mean 10 runs?

Erin said...

Or eleven.

Orel said...

Kemp ground-rule double! You may be getting that that binary inning after all, Erin!

Remember when the Dodgers lit up Mark Redman earlier this season? Hurdle actually left him in. Not so for Wells.

Erin said...

I know Wells is serving up meatballs out there, but it's still nice to see the boys (particularly Kemp) just picking up right where they left off.

Orel said...

Tough break for Wells. He just came back from surgery to remove a blood clot from his arm.

Orel said...

Consider yesterday's momentum carried over.

Orel said...

Stults not exactly pitching like he's been spotted eight runs. K's the first batter but walks the next two.

Orel said...

Honeycutt: "You have an EIGHT-RUN lead!"

Erin said...

Any of you boys going to Friday night's game? I'm about to buy my ticket, but I didn't want to get loge if you'll be in field level, or vice versa.

Erin said...

Now that they've scored eleven to make it binary, I'm okay if they keep adding to it.

Orel said...

12-0 Dodgers! I don't have plans to go to Friday's game, but who knows what Sax and/or AC are up to. Someday I'll see you again at Dodger Stadium, Erin!

Erin said...

You let me know the next time you'll be there, Orel, and I'll do my best. It's a lot easier now that I'm actually in town.

Orel said...

Vin just misidentified the Rockies' deer meat victim! It's Clint Barmes, not Todd Helton!

Orel said...

BTW, welcome back, Erin. It's nice when you're in the same time zone as us.

Orel said...

LaRoche fails to make the DeWitt-ian play.

Steve Sax said...

Hiya, folks! I am definitely NOT in the same time zone as y'all, but there must be something wrong with this Florida internet as it says it's 12-2 in the bottom of the fourth. But Stults is in trouble!

hey erin, if you go Friday, you get a Brad Penny bobblehead.

Steve Sax said...

Injury delay? Who is hurt?

Orel said...

Rancho Ardiendo for Stults. Torre pulls him with a 12-2 lead. Color me surprised.

Steve Sax said...

Apparently it's Stults! Sorry Eric, no win for you despite 12 runs of offense and a 10-run lead!

Orel said...

LaRoche had a hot shot go off his shoulder. They were just making sure he was okay, which he is.

Steve Sax said...

Okay, I'm going to the gym. Don't let the Dodgers' lead evaporate while I'm gone.

Steve Sax said...

Tigers are up 15-0 on the Royals, btw

Orel said...

Falkenborg vs. trade bait.

Orel said...

Line drive off Falkenborg's glove, LaRoche bare-hands it but pulls Loney off the bag. 12-2 Dodgers.

Orel said...

Er, 12-3.

Steve Sax said...

Oh no, here comes the Brian Falken-Borg Conspiracy.

Orel said...

Damage limited. Still 12-3 Dodgers.

Erin said...

Thanks, Orel. It's good to be back.

FYI, Beantown West has been shut down. I'm working on figuring out what to do next. It will likely end up being at beantownwest.blogspot.com, but I'll let you know.

Orel said...

Really? Let us know when you're back up and running.

Loney Fan said...

Barmes almost had his knees shattered by the A-train

Steve Sax said...

erin, why the shutdown? We are big fans.

New post that reflects my brain suffering from humidity and turning to mush. Okay, NOW I'm going to the gym.

Steve Sax said...

16-3 Dodgers? And 19-0 Royals???

Steve Sax said...

Sorry, it's 19-1 Royals.

Erin said...

The shutdown was not my choice. The guy who runs the network, who is an a**shole, got upset because I stopped allowing his comments when he behaved really badly on my site today. His response was to shut me down. I would love to give you more detail, but it would be easier if I could link to the site to show you what happened. But the site doesn't exist, as of about 20 minutes ago.

Steve Sax said...

Andruw Jones, HBP in the fifth.

Yeah, that target was hard to miss.

Orel said...

Erin, that sucks. Hope you're back at it soon.

Orel said...

1-0 D'backs in the 7th.

Orel said...

Cory Wade, or "Cody Wade" as Vin calls him, in and it's only the sixth. I hope Torre saves Kuo and/or Park because we'll probably need them tomorrow.

Orel said...

Owings in for Johnson in AZ, 8th inning. Walks Edmonds to start the inning.

Rockies score. 16-5 Dodgers.

Orel said...

Daryle Ward grounds into an inning-ending DP for Chicago. Thanks, Daryle.

Orel said...

16-6 Dodgers.

Orel said...

Jones K's for the third time tonight.

Orel said...

Damn, Stephen Drew triples in a run. 2-0 D'backs.

Orel said...

Top 9 in AZ. Let's go Cubbies!

Orel said...

Berroa with the sweet 360-degree spin move at short!

Orel said...

Qualls walks Theriot to lead it off in AZ.

Orel said...

Fukudome grounds to Tracy, who boots it. 1st & 2nd w/no out for Lee...in play, out(s).

Orel said...

Lee hits into a DP. Thanks, shithead.

Rockies score. 16-7 Dodgers.

Orel said...

Chicago loses. More sharing of first place will ensue.

Orel said...

Rich Harden K's 10 and loses. That's gotta suck.

Loney Fan said...

I suppose we picked the perfect night for awful pitching. Hopefully we can get it out of our system.

Orel said...

Wouldn't count on it, LF. This is Coors Field and it's not like Kershaw has been facing major-league hitting lately.

Steve Sax said...

But, Kershaw *did* get some wins down in this stint in the minors.

Guess who's back from the gym!

Erin, you still on?

Loney Fan said...

Well, it has been fun, but this paper is not writing itself. Besides, I will not be missing much if the Dodgers win and I certainly do not want to watch the other option. Cheers to Nancy Bea.

Orel said...

I hope Kershaw can get his first major-league win out of the way tomorrow.

Orel said...

Happy writing, LF!

Orel said...

Hey Beimel, you have a NINE-RUN lead. Stop throwing balls.

Orel said...

Kuo is throwing. We should save him for tomorrow.

Loney Fan said...

Thanks Orel, I have my writing cocktail in my souvenir Dodger travel mug and the Dodgers are winning. I can't ask for much more inspiration than that. Have a good night everyone.

Orel said...

Beimel gives up a couple. Kuo in, meaning he won't be available tomorrow.

Orel said...

writing cocktail = liquid inspiration?

Orel said...

"What a little gem this is." —Vin, with a touch of sarcasm

Orel said...

Kuo having trouble with that...last...out. 16-10 Dodgers.

Orel said...

Broxton is warming up with 2 outs in the 9th. Ridiculous.

Orel said...

Finally...the...longest...win...is...over....

Steve Sax said...

Wow, we couldn't pitch a scoreless frame against the Rockies since inning #2. Yikes. Doesn't augur well for tomorrow.

But I'll take the win! Good nigt, everyone!

Steve Sax said...

Sorry, that should be "good night, everyone!"

Loney Fan said...

Absurd way to win, but we'll take it. Liquid inspiration has had dual effects. My writing is profound, but I have only finished a few paragraphs. Here's to better pitching tomorrow!
