We Are the Borg, Resistance Is Futile.
Stults hits Ramirez to start the game. Hey, he's going to get on—might as well save a few pitches.
Back-to-back jacks for FLA. Is Stults long for the majors?
Ethier singles! No perfect game for you, Volstad!
Jorge Cantu can't hit, can you?
That Dr. Seuss tribute would work a lot better if Cantu hadn't homered in the first.
We are the Borg. Lower your shields and surrender your ships. We will add your biological and technological distinctiveness to our own. Your culture will adapt to service us. Resistance is futile.
Seriously... what is Torre's fascination with this guy?
Weren't the Volstad's the one's with the pointed ears? I thought they were the friendly ones.
He's pitched a great game damnit.
Yeah, we just got owned tonight. I hope Karina had more luck on her date than the Dodgers did at the plate.
I can't wait any longer for Donnie Baseball to take ownership of this team's batting instruction. I know there is a philosophy of patience at the plate... and it's being preached daily by Father Joe Torre ad nauseum. What I don't understand though, is how a team can sit and allow SO MANY average first pitch strikes to float right over the heart of the strike zone like they did tonight! Is the team to NEVER swing at a first pitch strike?? And if they do, are they damned forever to obscurity if they don't get a base hit? I mean to take nothing away from Volstad's great major league DEBUT (!!) but, seriously, this guy wasn't pitching like David Cone reincarnate. How many first pitch strikes does a guy have to throw before a manager (Torre!!) starts to give the green light to a team to swing away on them??? How many first pitch lolipops did this guy serve up? It was a bunch I tell ya... and did it ever become predictable enough to sit on them? Patience is a virtue indeed but, there becomes a time when you throw the book at patience when a pitcher is exploiting that strategy and using it to his advantage. The count was in Volstad's favor all night long and we allowed him that first pitch without argument. This has happened quite often of late with a pitcher who is all over the strike zone... and we're allowing them to control the plate by not offering at their first pitch strikes. Volstad can be beaten... and should have been pounded tonight. Wait until a good hitting team faces him next time and see how he gets punished. Hopefully we'll face him again this year... because he has "meat" written all over him.
I take full responsibility for last night's loss. I did have a great time at my date. I casually mentioned my date the game was being broadcasted and he took me to some place where i could see the game. We only watched the bottom of the 9th, where they scored the only run of the game.
Not even a couple of bloody marys could calm my despair of second place Dodgers.
I know, i suck.
