Game 98 Thread: July 20th @ D'Backs, 1:10p

Derek Lowe (7-8, 3.85) vs. Brandon Webb (13-4, 3.23).

COMMENTS: Hey Dodgers, Don't Go Breaking My Heart. You guys were so close. You were in first place again, but only for one game. And last night, you tried to comeback down 3 runs, only to leave a man on third in the ninth inning. In other Dodger news, Andruw Jones did not start last night due to "food poisoning" - E. Coli from the salad bar, right Andruw? Hopefully we can take the series with the win tonight - Go Blue!

That's one of my 10 all-time favorite Kiki Dee songs.

Why don't you ditch these LOSERS! Why dont you all go find a REAL team.

Orel said...

Hey AC, thanks for picking up the GT!

Webmeister said...

Great song, is that before or after Elton became crazy?
vr, Xei

Orel said...

Dodgers making contact against Webb in the 1st, but hit three ground-ball outs.

D'backs have men on 1st & 3rd, no out.

Orel said...

Lowe loads the bases, Clark bounces into a force at first. Dodgers botch rundown between first and second. 1-0 D'backs, one out.

Orel said...

3-0 D'backs. Dodgers are in Keystone Kops mode today.

Orel said...

Looks like Loney missed a hit-and-run sign and the D'backs get a strike-em-out, throw-em-out DP to end the 2nd. Where's the focus?

Alex Cora said...

Elton Crazy? Never- just look at that plaid sport coat.

Alex Cora said...

Just got back from the DARK KNIGHT - not a bad movie.

Orel said...

Dodgers are playing like Space Chimps.

karina said...

Loved Dark Knight. A Lot.

These Dodgers of today, not so much.

karina said...

King James with a single, Jones with a fly-out (surprising, right?), DeWitt working the count...

karina said...

DeWitt reached first on an error, King James to second...

karina said...

Kemp struck out. These Arizona aces are killing the Dodgers offense.

karina said...

On a random Kemp side note, i saw a picture of him on the ESPYs. He looked so stylish, sporting a big wide smile, i think i'll forgive him everything he does wrong .

karina said...

Mark Reynolds starting the 6th for the D'backs with a triple, no outs.

Alex Cora said...

Orel: Sax said that he couldn't post the GT, so I thought I would go ahead. Unfortunately I've had damn song in my head all day!

karina said...

Why Lowe was replaced by Falkenborg? is he injured?

I don't have a good feeling about this.

Steve Sax said...

Hey guys, just checking in from far far away (not that far, but kinda far). Looks like the Dodgers have a lot o 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 on the scoreboard...kinda like last night!

Orel said...

4-0 D'backs. Sorry about Maza, Karina.

Steve Sax said...

whoops, i turn my head, and the snakes score another run. 4-0 D'backs.

karina said...

As long as the team win the division and any movement that doesn't include trading Kemp, Ethier or Kershaw is fine with me.

Steve Sax said...

loney with the double! now we're talking

karina said...

King James with the double, Jones SINGLED. no outs...

karina said...

Dodgers 1-D'backs 4

Alex Cora said...

We scored! We scored! Holy Crap we scored!!!!

Alex Cora said...

Hey Karina: Is that a ring on your finger? Are congratulations in order?

karina said...

It's a graduation ring!

Alex Cora said...

Well then CONGRATULATIONS on your graduation! What did you graduate from / in?

Alex Cora said...

Anyone think health ledger should be up for an oscar? He was good in it, but I don't know if he was THAT good!

karina said...

Complicated. I have a degree on Communications (i guess that's what it's called on the US). I'm about to finish Graphic Design, almost done there.

karina said...

I think he was astounding, but i gotta say the ensemble of actors were absolutely perfect ( i think Maggie Gyllenhall was the weakest link there). I enjoyed a lot the sequence between Gary Oldman and the Joker.

Alex Cora said...

Yeah, and wasn't it strange to see Anthony Michael Hall as the beat reporter - I was thinking of him in the Breakfast Club the entire time he was on the screen.

Orel said...

No spoilers please! IMAX was sold out this weekend so we're seeing it next weekend.

Alex Cora said...

And is that graduate school? Are you going to be the spanish radio announcer for the dodgers in the future?

Alex Cora said...

Uh oh here comes the rally! Man on 1st and 2nd!

karina said...

Orel, we haven't gotten away anything, just talking about the great on-screen performances . I love Gary Oldman, i can't do anything about it. You're watching it on IMAX, wow!

Alex, both of my degrees are bachelor's degrees. It wouldn't be that bad to be a baseball journalist.

Steve Sax said...

dammit dammit dammit kent with the eighth inning-ending DP

karina said...

Kent GIDP. No rally.

Steve Sax said...

Orel, I promise not to give awway the ending of Space Chimps either...except to say that the Chimps make it to space!

Alex Cora said...

Opps, the rally disappears.

Steve Sax said...

TronKKoso, so far

Alex Cora said...

orel: seeing it on IMAX - that is cool. I don't recommend the front seat though - you will blow your eyes out.

karina said...

Random:
venezuelan slang for shutout is nueve arepas.

Arepa is http://tinyurl.com/ysrd36

karina said...

The quality of sound on the Dark Knight is amazing. It has a life of its own, i think the sound department of that film should get several Academy Awards nominations.

karina said...

It's amazing Troncoso has struck out 5 on a couple of innings.

karina said...

Garciaparra doubled! King James up!

karina said...

Loney singled, Garciaparra is at 3rd.

Jones is coming...no hopes there...

karina said...

Jones grounded, Garciaparra scored, Loney out at 2nd.

Jones RBI, Dodgers 2-D'backs 4

Steve Sax said...

In play, run(s)!

LaRoche comes through...but with what????

Steve Sax said...

Oh crap, it was a single.

And now Bison is back up at potentially the last at bat of the game...just like last night...when he flied out

karina said...

Sorry, Jones as out at first, so Loney was at second. LaRoche singled and Loney scored, so...

Dodgers 3-D'backs 4

Erin said...

Hey guys! I've been lurking without commenting, but Kemp's game-tying double has brought me out of hiding. Awesome

Steve Sax said...

ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? WHAT JUST HAPPENED In play, run(s) with Kemp up

karina said...

He doubled!!!Ethier and Martin coming up, however there are 2 outs on the board.

Steve Sax said...

Erin, thank you for the scoopage

I m stuck here in a hotel room in Florida, and the humidity is affecting the speed (or lack thereof) of the internet "high speed" connection (and gameday, I might add).

karina said...

Hi, Erin! Did you like The Dark Knight?

karina said...

Ethier tripled! can't believe this! Son Martin next!

Erin said...

Whoo! Ethier triples to straightaway center, and the Dodgers suddenly lead 5-4.

Erin said...

And I flip back to the Red Sox game to discover they've tied the Angels at two. Sweet.

Steve Sax said...

Ethier triples? WHAT IS GOING ON HERE?!?!?!

Erin said...

Hello Karina! Yes, I loved The Dark Knight. Great, great movie.

karina said...

The kids, Steve! Reminding the management they can't be that foolish to even think to trade them for a so-so veteran ballplayer...

Erin said...

And we pad the lead with a Martin single.

For those of you not getting Vin for this one, when Ozuna scored the tying run, Scully's response was "Ozuna the better."

I think he would fit in perfectly around here.

karina said...

That's my son! Russell Martin with the RBI single!

Erin said...

These three games have all been somewhat similar. The Diamondbacks score a few runs early, then the starter either settle in or the bullpen holds down the fort while the offense comes back. Last night and tonight, it took them a while to get it going, but you have to like seeing them not just give up, even in the ninth inning.

karina said...

It's absolutely adorable. These 5 runs on the ninth are what just what the doctor ordered for the chemistry in the team.

Steve Sax said...

Two out, tying run at the plate...

Steve Sax said...

I think that since Mattingly has been on board, we've had furious late-game charges. I'll have to post on this.

Erin said...

Broxton is making this interesting. 6-5, Dodgers. Tying run on the bases with two outs. Conor Jackson at the plate.

Come on, Sideburns. You can do this.

Alex Cora said...

Oh No, we need ONE MORE OUT!!!

Steve Sax said...

Uh oh, 6-5 with Drew on first and Conor Jackson up...

Alex Cora said...

DODGERS WIN DODGERS WIN!!!

Steve Sax said...

And it's all over! The Dodgers win the game, take the series, and are BACK IN FIRST PLACE!!!

Steve Sax said...

Gotta go, ladies. The gym awaits.

Alex Cora said...

Back in FIRST!!!! GO BLUE!!!

Orel said...

Wow, I picked a fine time to clean the toilet!

karina said...

Great game!

Steve Sax said...

Hey, I know tonight was a great come-from-behind win and everything, but maybe we should heed redhead's suggestion to ditch these LOSERS and go find a REAL team.

Oh wait, we WON last night!
