Game 90 Thread: July 8 vs. Braves, 7p

Chad Billingsley (8-7, 3.12) vs. Jair Jurrjens (8-4, 3.09).

COMMENTS: Them's some big shoes to fill, after last night's one-hitter. Good things we've got the thunderous thighs of "His Royal Thighness" (as DT calls him) Chad Billingsley on the mound! Jurrjens shut us down back in April with seven innings of one-run ball, including eight strikeouts. But this is the first-place Dodgers we're talking about now. So what if we're still 15th in the NL for home runs? So what if the black hole that is Andruw Jones is off to a torrid 1-for-12 pace since his return from the DL (unbelievably dropping his already microscopic average from .165 to .159)? So what if Travelzoo is practically giving tickets away to attract fans to this homestand? It's SoSG Alex Cora's birthday, dadgum it, and we're staying in first place tonight!

Thanks, oh and great picture.

Sax gets credit for that. Guess he was in a one-thighs-fits-all mood.

Washington is giving this game away against the Snakes. The pesky Nats' centerfielder makes an error, turning a single with a man on first into a run. 2-0 Arizona, going to the bottom of the sixth.

I guess it's up to you, Mr. Billingsley. A nation turns its lonely thighs to you. Woo, woo woo.

MLB.com's Ken Gurnick couldn't be more sour about the Dodgers on the pre-game show. "Year after year, they don't seem to be getting any traction"; "I don't see them beating any good pitching.". Yeech. Now even I'm depressed.

Steve Sax said...

Rick Monday's "keys to the game": no, wait, they spend so much time talking about Kuroda's performance last night, Monday and Steiner only have time to say
"They'd better be ready" for Jurrjens. Yay. Thanks for that insight.

Arizona won, so it's thigh stakes for Billingsley tonight.

Steve Sax said...

Okay, enough with the thigh puns. With the Diamondbacks' win in Washington tonight, the Dodgers are a calf-game back in the West.

Steve Sax said...

Bills gets two quick outs but walks Larry, but Teixeira promptly grounds to Loney. On to bottom one.

Orel said...

Jeff Kent is not the bee's knees.

Orel said...

Andruw singles! Break out the champagne!

Steve Sax said...

I can't believe Andruw Jones shin-gled.

karina said...

I'm shocked Andruw Jones actually singled. If i wasn't watching on TV, i wouldn't believe it.

karina said...

Epale guys! Happy Birthday Alex Cora!

Orel said...

Chad has been Kuroda-esque the first three innings.

Orel said...

Epale Karina!

Way to go Matt KK emp

karina said...

Great, Francouer and his awesome throw...double play...

karina said...

What's up with Atlanta and those hard to spell last names?

karina said...

Did you see the last breaking ball? Bills rocks!

Orel said...

Chadley K's Larry!

Orel said...

Kuroda + Bills > Penny + Lowe

karina said...

Lowe hasn't been that bad...

karina said...

Dodgers have 2 hits tonight. One of them was courtesy of Andruw Jones. We should remember that fact when Pierre gets back and Ethier or Kemp gets benched.

Orel said...

True, Karina. If you think about it, Kuroda, Bills and Lowe have really turned it up recently.

Orel said...

Bills is wobbling....

karina said...

One of the reasons this team is on a winning streak...and the fashion police pic you found...

Orel said...

Walks the bases loaded. Let's go, DP!

karina said...

Rancho Ardiendo for the Braves. One out.

Orel said...

Yes, the Fashion Police must get its full due.

Orel said...

Damn, Escobar doubles the bases clean. 3-0 Braves.

Orel said...

Chad gets Larry and Teixeireirieira to end the inning! Three runs is difficult but not impossible. Let's go!

karina said...

Let's go blue!

karina said...

Do you know what bothers about this 3-run inning? Chipper Jones didn't have anything to do with them, it's bad for my fantasy team, specially because the young blue is there too.

karina said...

DeWitt with the single! One out

Loney Fan said...

Just what we need. Thanks KKK emp

Orel said...

I wonder if Chi-Jo is hurt again.

karina said...

I hope Larry is not hurt. I mean, all really good 3rd basemen are taken in fantasy.

Orel said...

Looks like Elton Brand is going to the Bulls. Bummer.

karina said...

My brother (the Braves fan) and i have had interminable conversations about who's better: McCaan or Martin.
Don't like that HR, he'll probably call me early morning, because i called him last night, right after the game was finished, perfect time, he was on his lunch break.

Orel said...

4-0 on a McCann homer. We'll get 'em tomorrow, boys.

karina said...

If you don't want Elton Brand to go to the Bulls, i don't want to either.

karina said...

Don't lose any hope, Orel. It's not out number 27 yet.

Orel said...

Thanks Karina. Always look on the bright side of life.

Orel said...

Okay, I gotta drive home. Switching from Gameday to the radio team. Go Blue!

karina said...

Drive safe!

karina said...

Jurrjens bunted, Kotsay at 2nd, Johnson at 3rd, Blanco singled.

Braves 6-Dodgers 0

karina said...

Ethier, the impossible out on Dodgers lineup tonight. After 2 walks, he singled.

karina said...

After 2 outs, Loney doubles and Ethier scores.

Dodgers 1-Braves 6

karina said...

Jones struck out, leaving Loney stranded at 2nd. He strucj out with 5 pitches, 4 of them fastballs. On TV, it could be seen he was laughing when he heard the well deserved booing.

karina said...

Back to back singles by Johnson and Kotsay.

Prado pinch-hit and singled to center. Combined with a terrible throw by Jones, Braves up, 7 to 1.

Steve Sax said...

My God, Jones is simply awful. That K was painful to watch.

Good night!

karina said...

Night, Steve!

karina said...

Back to back homers by Teixeira (i know it's not nice, but someone would please hit by pitch tomorrow?) and McCann.
Wade at the mound, by the way.

karina said...

Young, pinch hitting for Kent, walks. King James' up.

karina said...

King James singles to the right. Jones' next and the booing continues at the Dodger Stadium.

karina said...

No outs.

karina said...

Believe it or not. Jones singled!

Rancho Ardiendo at the 9th, no outs!

karina said...

Garciaparra grounded to shortstop, suited to a double play, but a bad throw by Johnson, Dodgers scored 2 runs.

Dodgers 3-Braves 9

karina said...

DeWitt walks.

karina said...

Berroa pinch hitting for Wade. Struck out. Kemp struck out. Out number 27.

Night!
