Game 107 Thread: July 30 vs. Giants, 7p

Chad Billingsley (10-9, 3.26) vs. Jonathan Sanchez (8-6, 4.46).

COMMENTS: The Giants took Game 1. The Dodgers took Game 2. Tonight is Game 3 and will therefore decide which team wins the series (what do they call this, again?). The Dodgers couldn't have been more different in the two games; in Game 1 the bats were alive but couldn't overcome the starting pitching disaster, while in Game 2 the bats were dead but the starting pitching held San Francisco scoreless. The only consistent part has been watching The Misadventures of Fred Lewis, as he misplayed balls both evenings. That gives us Dodger fans someone to mock out in left field, a tradition when the Giants come to town. Sanchez was a disaster in his last start (81 pitches when he was pulled in the third inning); Billingsley was great in his (7.2 innings of two-run ball, giving Chad the win). Let's keep those traditions going too, okay?

Kemp and Ethier play every day, Jones or Pierre plays every day. I like that.

Hilarious game 3 picture.

I'm ok with this lineup. Thrilled to see kemp leading off again. Not so thrilled to see kent still in there sinking like Andruw Jones.

karina said...

Finally Torre is listening to us. I think most of us are pleased with the fact that Ethier and Kemp are playing everyday.

p.s: would someone explain to me the game thread picture?

Condom (aka rubber) + Match.

Rubber match: the deciding game of a series. The winner of the "rubber match" will win the series.

Steve Sax said...

Thanks, Q7.

Sax will be at the game this evening, field level third base side. Leave a comment if you're going to be at the game, and maybe we can grab a $12 beer together.

Orel said...

Have fun, Sax!

Gosh, Rubbers and Fred Lewis misplaying balls...we have to keep this site clean...

Alex Cora said...

Man, watching the Angels game, Torii Hunter just ripped on out of the park and Anderson with a double. They have 15 hits. I wish the Dodgers could hit like this.

Orel said...

They would if they just traded for Teixeira. D'oh!

Erin said...

Hey guys. Vin just wished us all "a very Wednesday night." I intend to have one.

Alex Cora said...

And did he call Dave Roberts, Dave Reynolds? I was half listening...

Loney Fan said...

Nice start for TT.

Alex Cora said...

Kemp with a walk! I love seeing the big man run the bases.

Orel said...

TT? Tree Thighs?

I'm feeling a little Tuesday myself.

Orel said...

2-0 Padres! Against Haren, no less!

Erin said...

I assumed Thunder Thighs.

Alex Cora said...

We are taking this pitcher deep into the count.

Orel said...

Kemp SB + Martin single = 1-0 Dodgers!

Alex Cora said...

Woohoo! Martin with the single 1-0 dodgers.

Orel said...

You're probably right, Erin. I gotta brush up on my leg-related humor.

Martin CS. That's okay.

Alex Cora said...

Hmm, it looks like it is hard to run off of molina. Martin out trying to steal.

Erin said...

Pitching is the least of our problems. Anyone have any idea why there are supposedly legitimate rumors about us trading for Maddux? What would the Padres want for him? Why would we be willing to give anything up, given the quality of our pitching?

Orel said...

Apparently the Dodgers are the only team Maddux would agree to be traded to.

Orel said...

3-0 Dodgers! 3-1 Padres!

Orel said...

3-2 Padres.

Loney Fan said...

I'm watching ESPN Gamecast online tonight, but it looks like Turkey Thighs is pitching a gem.

Erin said...

Yeah, but him wanting us doesn't mean we have to want him, too. It's fine if it only costs us, money, I guess. But if it even costs a lower-level prospect, it's hard to justify.

Orel said...

"The Dodgers apparently are willing to send Matt Kemp to Boston but they also appear to be running behind Florida."

I would hope so!

Orel said...

Maddux + Kershaw = interesting

karina said...

I was going to say you said it before. Not only for Kershaw, it'd be good with Bills, Broxton, even Wade and Troncoso.

karina said...

Epale!

Master Quad, if you read this, thanks for the insight on american slang and thanks Orel to post that picture because you made me to learn something tonight.

karina said...

Kemp started the inning with a single, then stole a base. Blake singled too.

That's what i call a leadoff hitter.

karina said...

Kemp with a very bad baserunning *sigh*

Random thoughts from the game:

Pricey beer at Gordon Biersch is only $11, not $12 (my bad)

Our hat shuffle has GOT to be the slowest and easiest hat shuffle in the majors

Matt Kemp shouldn't have gone on that ground ball to third

The inter-inning "entertainment" of America's Dance Crew is simply awful. Do not watch this show on MTV.

Steve Sax said...

Karina, you're killing me...giving Orel the credit for posting the picture when I am trying to win your heart

karina said...

Opps my mistake!. Sax, i got confused, anyway, you do have a piece of my heart.

How many 11$ beers have you had so far?

Loney Fan said...

I'm in class, I would pay over $11 for a beer right now.

Loney Fan said...

The internet states "A. Berroa out on batter's interference to catcher."

I'm confused.

karina said...

Bill with the awesome catch!

I didn't see the Berroa at-bat.

Alex Cora said...

Anyone else sick of those "phiten" commercials with Josh Beckett and his necklace?

karina said...

Bills with 8 strikeouts, no walks and 100 pitches. Will he go for the complete game?

Alex, i don't know what commercials you're talking about.

Alex Cora said...

I don't know if you will get the commercial where you are, but it is with Beckett on the mound, and he touches his necklace then throws a pitch that strikes out the batter and blows up the speed gun. Phiten is a company that makes these necklaces and bracelets. It is just so overplayed in LA on Channel 9. I think we let Bills go all the way (but with a short leash). I like this scoreless inning thing by the bullpen.

Alex Cora said...

Nice play by Ozuna. I don't think Kent could have made that play. nice sub by torre.

Orel said...

LF, Berroa bunted but was called out when he ran into the ball running to first.

Orel said...

AC, them's Phiten words!

Orel said...

Game ends on a play at the plate! Ethier to Martin! Chadley with a complete game shutout!

Orel said...

Perfect block by Martin. He's becoming a master at that. First career shutout for Bills. Dodgers hold Giants scoreless for 23 (!) straight innings.

Bring on the Diamondbacks!

karina said...

I can't think of a better way to start the games with the Dbacks. Pitching was impeccable.

Night. Let's go blue.

Steve Sax said...

Dodgers have four shutouts in the last five games. Sure, it was against he Nats and Giants, but still.

Other thoughts from the game:

Chadley was on fire tonight; the CPK meter was lit up

Blake played a great game at third and at bat. I know he's a rental, but he's on track to be quite a good grab, which is a pleasant surprise

Kent still looks awful at cleanup, but he did rope that double to the left-center gap

When Torre called for Kent after his last at-bat, he basically hand-signalled him from the dugout to come in. It was totally professional, and Kent looked totally calm. Grady Little could never have gotten that sort of respect from Kent. Good substitute, Torre; it paid off later.

Kemp stood right beside Mattingly after his faled at-bat mid-game. He looked eager to learn, and that's after walking twice and scoring twice already...nice to see he's receptive to feedback.

Gordon Biersch queues now snake horizontally, preventing the long lines extending vertically from each register, which blocked concourse traffic

Parking at game time was a disaster, super-crowded and not enough attendants. This McCourt "system" still sucks and should be reverted; it's been two years of crap, Frank, so you should finally admit your mistake and fess up.

Sounds like I missed a good game. Went to see Step Brothers, it was hilarious! Stay through the credits for one quick extra scene too.

Sax, which entrance and parking lot are you using at the stadium? I usually enter using the Academy gate and park in lot 6. It's in the outfield, but I never have trouble finding a spot or getting out quickly.

Steve Sax said...

As a season ticket holder I'm in Lot G, right behind the scoreboards and inside the inner ring. The problem isn't Lot G, the problem is getting in via the Sunset Gate:

--not every parking booth was open, which backed up traffic
--once you got through the parking booth area, the jaunt up that hill was a mess and the cones were all over the place
--they were only letting one lane of cars into the inner ring, which makes no sense
--there were only 1/2 as many people to direct traffic as they usually have

All in all, a much worse experience parking this time than I would expect for a Wednesday game. If it's the Giants, wouldn't you expect attendance to be higher than normal (and staff accordingly)?

QuadSevens said...

Ahhh. I've been in that inner ring a few times this year and it has always been an adventure. The inner ring is like a freeway during rush hour with pedestrians. Just imagine what it will be like next year with 9 story parking garages! That is going to be one hell of a traffic jam.
