Dodgers-Giants game still on despite L.A. earthquake

play for next year. Unless you can trade Jeff Kent and Juan Pierre for Brian Roberts...

QuadSevens said...

Suiting haiku for this time of year.

Orel said...

Pierre, LF
Kemp, CF
Ethier, RF
Kent, 2B
Loney, 1B
Blake, 3B
Berroa, SS
Ardoin, C
Johnson, P

Not liking the bottom third of that order, but Martin's gotta rest sometime.

Tonight's lineup haiku:

Pierre Kemp Andre
Kent James Blake and Berroa
Ardoin then Johnson

Orel said...

John Lackey has no-hit the Red Sox over 8.

Alex Cora said...

Anyone in LA getting this in HD tonight?

Alex Cora said...

Opps - there goes the no hitter.

Orel said...

Pedroia singles off Lackey in the ninth.

Orel said...

No HD for me.

Alex Cora said...

unravels in a big way too - Youk with a 2 run homerun off of Lackey.

karina said...

Are you LA area guys all right and safe?

Eric Karros said...

Hi Karina - I'm not an LA area guy anymore but my parents live there and they are fine. My mom didn't even feel it. My dad did, but it wasn't too strong where they live. Thanks for asking -

Orel said...

Yes Karina, thanks! No damage here, just a swaying house.

karina said...

Kemp was safe...not matter what the San Francisco announcers say (stuck with them, second night in a row)

karina said...

Glad, you all guys are OK. Thanks the Lord.

Rob said...

Hi, honey, I'm home! Did I miss anything?

karina said...

Ardoin with a rettible throw to second, but Wynn isn't that fast to reclaim third.

Rob said...

Godawful play by Wynn. He basically gave that one away.

Rob said...

I'm getting this in HD. Just checked.

Weird that for some reason Vinny is half as loud in HD. I have to turn the volume on the TV up all the way.

karina said...

You're a very lucky guy...

Rob said...

Are you watching on MLB.tv, karina?

Orel said...

0-0 after four. Didn't expect that.

Orel said...

Gotta love the 3-6-3 (?) DP!

Orel said...

Five scoreless!

karina said...

On MLB Extra Innings.

karina said...

Loving this game, i hope Coper works his magic.

karina said...

Orel, could you take your pup to the doctor?

Orel said...

"The Giants and Dodgers, baseball's answer to push against shove." —Vin

Orel said...

Yes Karina, it's not arthritis or an injury but for some reason he has pain in both rear legs. Prescribed anti-inflammatory medication and will take him back next week.

Pup is super-groggy because of the sedatives they had to give him to take the X-rays.

karina said...

I love Vin, i'd wish i could get to listen to him.

karina said...

Poor Pup! well, at least it doesn't seem something chronical, my get well thoughts for him...

Rob said...

Wait a minute. Jason Johnson has held a major league team scoreless through five?

Am I dreaming?

Orel said...

Old Man Kent still has some gas in the tank! Nice play!

Orel said...

Thanks, Karina.

Make that 5 1/3, Rob.

Rob said...

Orel, does your pup have hip dysplasia?

Orel said...

Six scoreless!

Rob said...

And now six. Yowza.

karina said...

It's such a waste Cain and Lincecum have to play with that team. You've got to keep an eye on your nephew, Orel.

Orel said...

I'm pretty sure that was one of the conditions the vet ruled out, Rob.

Orel said...

3-0 D'backs lead the Padres.

Rob said...

Kemp gets a leadoff single up the middle! Suweet!

karina said...

Kemp starting the inning with a single, maybe trying to convince Torre he should hit leadoff 'till the end of the season or Furcal gets back, whatever happens first.

Orel said...

It's hard not to like Lincecum, although it always looks like he's going to throw his arm clean off.

Rob said...

Ah, okay. A lot of breeds have problems with hip dysplasia, especially nordic dogs. Not that I have any idea what kind of dog your pup is.

karina said...

I thought Kemp had stolen second...sorry for my lack of attention, i'm multitasking as usual...

karina said...

Kemp heard me, he stole second!

Orel said...

Kemp heard you, Karina!

Rob, I got him from the shelter so I'm not sure. But I've been told he's a pit-chow mix.

Orel said...

Damn you, Rich Aurilia!

karina said...

You can do it, King James, teach him!

Rob said...

WOOOOOOHOOOOHOOOOO!!!! AHAHAHAHAHAHA! "LIKE A LETTER FROM HOME!"

Orel said...

JAMES RBI!

"Oh boy is Matt Cain mad at himself. He hung that pitch like it was an apple on a tree." —Vin

karina said...

King James heard me! a two out, RBI single!

Dodgers leading for one!

Rob said...

Oh, bless your heart, Orel. Not many people would take home a pit mix.

Orel said...

The shelter labeled him as a German Shepherd mix, probably for this very reason, Rob. But I would have taken him anyway. He's got a very sweet disposition.

Wow, a Dodger fan did the right thing!

Rob said...

TOTAL break on that call. I would have called Loney out and the inning over.

Orel said...

If anything, isn't it a ground-rule double? Men on 2nd & 3rd?

karina said...

Dogs are the most loyal, caring and loving creatures and if you give them love, they'll give back that love multiply by infinite.

Rob said...

A lot of "pits" are relabeled American Stafforshire Terrior mixes for that reason, too.

It's all about the owner.

Rob said...

Blah!

American Staffordshire Terrier.

Can't. Spell.

karina said...

Umpires with the middle ground decision, King james is out at the plate, but Blake gets the third base.

Announcers say son Martin is up.

Rob said...

I don't think the fan was even aware that he did the right thing -- once his hand touched the ball it was dead, but he was looking the other way. IMO it was still live when the Giants' LF fielded it.

Orel said...

Looks like we got a break there. 2-0 Dodgers.

I subscribe to the Cesar Millan school of dog training: exercise, discipline, then affection.

Orel said...

It was Berroa. K's to end the inning.

karina said...

Martin was next to Berroa...at least that's what they said.

karina said...

We have never given Coper much discipline but he turned out to be polite. My parents paid for a trainer but neither of us liked him to give Coper much discipline.

Orel said...

Lewis bobbled the ball out of the field of play. Hence the ruling.

Brian Giles breaks up Doug Davis' perfect game. Whoopee.

Rob said...

Coper looks like a good boy.

Rob said...

Th-th-th-th-th-that's all folks.

Alex Cora said...

Sorry got here late, saw "the play" was that ruled fan interference or was the ball out of play. If it was fan interference, then was the fan kicked out? If it was not interference, was the fan kicked out anyways (and pissed about it?)

Orel said...

When is someone going to tell the Miller Lite ad folks that the Los Angeles Dodgers have five pennants, not six?

Orel said...

The fan should not be kicked out. He correctly backed away from the ball and didn't touch it.

Alex Cora said...

Yeah, but did the ushers kick him out wrongfully anyways? That would have been funny (and sad).

Orel said...

No mention of the fan's status, AC.

Alex Cora said...

Wow, our back up catcher sort of sucks. Wonder how Carlos Santana is doing in Cleveland.

Alex Cora said...

Supposedly the Boston fans were booing Manny today. Would you rather have Manny or PIerre?

Rob said...

The fan clearly wasn't even paying attention to the play on the field until the ball actually hit his hand, at which point he pulled away. I just don't see how management can kick him out.

Essentially a gift run for the Dodgers.

Alex Cora said...

Hey Pierre got a hit!

karina said...

and stole a base!

Rob said...

I was watching the entire game, and I never once heard a boo for Manny.

Orel said...

No reason for the Red Sox fans to boo Manny specifically; the whole team got shut down today.

Oh, and I'd take two months of Manny in exchange for getting rid of Pierre. Who just missed a play that Manny wouldn't have come near to.

Orel said...

Angels manhandling the Red Sox gotta warm the cockles of your heart, Rob.

Orel said...

Nice play by Berroa with a rare clank by James.

Orel said...

Brox in for the four-out save!

Alex Cora said...

Loney should have handled that ball from Berrora. Nice pick by Angel too. I don't think Nomar could have gotten that one, good knee or not.

Lasorda said...

C'mon big boy! 4 outs.

Rob said...

I was watching the entire game, and I never once heard a boo for Manny.

Alex Cora said...

Dodgers.com says they might be looking at Mark Loretta or Mark Gruzalanik (no, I don't know how to spell his last name).

Orel said...

D'backs getting the breaks today too. They lead 3-0 going into the 9th.

Rob said...

Well, that was different.

Orel said...

Hey, it's Lasorda!

Alex Cora said...

Rob: Oh, I didn't watch the game, but the espn baseball tonight guys were saying there were boos.

Rob said...

G-r-u-d-z-i-e-l-a-n-e-k.

Alex Cora said...

Thanks Rob. I thought it was spelled W-A-S-H-E-D-U-P, but he is hitting a hell of a lot better than most of the veteran dodger players.

Alex Cora said...

Guess the DBacks win, so therefore the Dodgers WILL win as per seemingly the last 2 weeks.

Orel said...

Grudzielanek and Hollandsworth are 12-letter guys.

Orel said...

God forbid we should ever have sole possession of first.

Rob said...

Cha ching!

Dodgers win!

Orel said...

Brox gets it done! I like him building up save experience.

Alex Cora said...

woohoo! Is Broxton the closer of the future? Dodgers win 2-0 Great game guys, Lets take the series tomorrow. Go Blue!

Rob said...

"Hollandsworth" is 13 characters long.

Orel said...

Dammit, Rob, now I'm going to have to remove him from my All-12-Letter Team.

Rob said...

There are only three players with 14-character last names: William van Lindingham, John Van Benschoten, and Jarrod Saltalamacchia.

Rob said...

Oops, William Van Landingham.

Orel said...

It sounds like you've been hanging out with Bob Timmermann.
