Bowa Sees Kershaw as Trade Bait

From Diamond:

Dodgers third base coach Larry Bowa expressed his thoughts on his team today in an interview with a Philadelphia radio station. Here's some of what was said... [...]

We're definitely looking for a bat. We're looking for about three bats. We have some pitching to offer. I mean, we got this kid (Clayton) Kershaw who's probably going to be called up after the break who's 20 years old. He's a pretty good pitcher. He's going to be pretty good. Penny's going to be coming back off the list. I don't think you're going to get (Chad) Billingsley. I don't think you're going to get (Hiroki) Kuroda.

How about we trade Bowa for a bat?

Great idea Sax! Can we throw in Andruw Jones's hitting coach to sweeten the deal?

I think I'd trade Penny before I traded Kershaw!

He goes on to say..."And I know a lot of that has to do with (Rafael) Furcal and (Juan) Pierre. I mean, those two guys sort of ignited us, and they've been out for a long time now, and (Brad) Penny's been out. We've had our share of injuries, but you know, that's still no excuse. You still have big league hitters, and we're just not getting it done."...

I'm not so sure he knows how to read a stat line. Or the fact that the team started slumping when Pierre was relied upon. I guess all you have to do is be part of a WS team and over 30 to be considered "veteran producer". I wonder if Bowa thinks we need more guys like Pierre? If that's the case Torre and Bowa can ship on out!

I think he sees Lowe as trade bait and Kershaw as a replacement for Lowe. vr, Xeifrank

I wonder if he's noticed the Dodgers have a winning record without Pierre.

Good one, Orel.

I say, how about trade Bowa, Andruw Jones's hitting coach and Andruw Jones for a bat (an aluminum one would even do) or a couple of batting gloves?

Andruw Jones's salary is astronomical high but the Dodgers could even pay him to play in another team. No one is going to miss embarrasing performances like he had last series: 14 or 15 K's and such.

Sorry if i sound bitter, but these Bowa statements piss me off.

Pretty sure I don't come to the conclusion that Bowa is suggesting Kershaw should be the target of a trade with that comment.

You may be right, Rob and Xei. I read into it from "We have some pitching to offer" and the first pitcher he mentions is Kershaw.
