Game 14 Thread: April 17 @ Diamondbacks, 6.40p

Dodgers start Brett Tomko, RHP (0-0, 0.00 ERA) vs. Micah Owings, RHP (1-1, 1.59 ERA)

Dodgers: 9-4 (1st place NL West, best record in the major leagues, --GB, W2)
Diamondbacks: 9-5 (2nd place NL West, 0.5GB, L1)

From Dodgers.com, the scouting report on the starters:

Dodgers: Tomko pitched a gem in his first start of the season, shutting out the Rockies for 6 1/3 innings, but he didn't figure in the decision. Tomko finished with nine strikeouts and surrendered only one hit in the Dodgers' 2-1 victory. He was 1-0 with a 2.61 ERA in four starts against the D-Backs last season.

Diamondbacks: With Randy Johnson soon to return, Owings will be making his case to stay in the D-backs' rotation in his third big-league start. He has allowed just two runs in 11 1/3 innings this season, succeeding with great command and location. Owings is undefeated dating back to May 23 of last season, finishing 2006 going 10-0 for Triple-A Tucson.

COMMENTS

  • This is the second game of a short (and bizarre) two-game series thanks to the wonder that is interleague play, so the Dodgers are guaranteed not to lose the series thanks to last night's 5-1 win. Tonight's team challenge will be seeing if the Dodgers can throw together a multi-run inning (all five runs last night were scored in separate innings), as well as earning a series sweep.
  • It would also be nice to see if we can figure out how to pitch to Snakes outfielders Eric Byrnes and Carlos Quentin, both of whom had two doubles (and Byrnes almost had a third, if not for Ethier's diving catch).
  • Congratulations to Nomar for being the first Dodger to 10 RBI; after starting the season slow he is now batting .306.

Giants just took a 2-0 lead on the Rockies (Jason Hirsh on the mound) in the third.

But now, It's Time for Dodger Baseball!

So I'm not the only one who hates interleague

Anyone with MLB.TV premium you can mute Mark Grace and turn on Vinny in Gameday audio

The bad Pierre: he forces Furcal when batting second.

The good Pierre: his antics while on first contribute to Owings' 26 pitches in the first, and he scores a run on a Kent double.

Nice double play Brett Tomko!

Damon: Great idea, until you get the pain that is Rick Monday in the fourth inning...enjoy Vinny while you can!

How do you do this? Whenever I click on the gameday audio, it takes over the video screen, so I can only play one at a time.

It could be because I have a Mac and use safari.

Stevendee: I am using Gameday audio and watching the game on Mosaic with a Mac. Start Mosaic, mute the volume. Then goto mlb.com, click on Multimedia, then find the Gameday audio (away) to listen to Steiner and Monday. The audio is about a pitch late, however it is head an shoulders above Mark "I'm trying to be Rex Hudler" Grace.

Hey Sax, I didn't know you were playing short tonight? Oh wait that was Furcal with the airmail special.

Cora, at least I got to that ball.

Nice home run last year, I might add. Real power.
